Can't set up Canon printer

I have failed to install a Canon IP4600 on a macbook with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
I downloaded a driver from the Canon site, apparently successfully, but can't find the printer. To print anything I have to send the file to my PC and print from there.
Help please

The Mac will not recognize the printer before you connect it. When you install the printer drivers, they are placed in a core folder in the Mac. They don't create a printer entry in the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane until you either physically connect the printer to the Mac or manually add the print queue.
So, if you connect the printer to the Mac and open Print & Fax, you should have an entry for the printer in the list. Note that this can take a few seconds to appear. If it doesn't appear after a few seconds, then you can click the + button to add the printer and then click the Default icon (usually the Default view opens first but if the IP view is displayed you will need to click the Default icon). With the Default view of Add Printer showing, the Canon should appear in this list if the printer and the USB cable connecting them are okay. If the printer does not appear in this Default view, then the USB cable is typically the cause if there is no other device between the printer and the Mac.

Firefox generally displays the printers in Windows' Printers folder (Start orb > Devices and Printers). If it is missing one of the printers listed there, could you indicate which one it is, for example, Adobe Distiller, PrimoPDF, CutePDF Writer, etc.?
If you previously had an add-on which added print-to-PDF functionality just to Firefox, perhaps it got disabled. You could check here:

Also, are you really running Firefox 8.0.1? That version from last November is no longer secure and has been superseded by Firefox 11. If you browse the web widely, you should update for your security.

Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

How to set up Canon printer via Netgear print server ps121 on new macbook

I have bought a new Macbook (OS10.4.8). The Apple store gives a good deal if you buy a Canon ip4300 with it but I am having problems figuring out how to set up the printer to work thru my Netgear print server on my Netgear network. Can anybody advise:
1. I know my print server is on port 192.168.1.5, but what kind of settings do I use, IPP or LPT or something else?
2. Why can I not find the driver for the ip4300, even though I have used the CD that came with the printer and run the install program and the printer DOES work when I plug it directly into the USB port. Why does the Macbook come with drivers already installed for only a few ancient BJ Canons and why won't it show me where the driver for the ip4300 is since it is obviously already on the machine?
I know Netgear treats its customers with contempt (Linksys even worse). But I would expect a little more simplicity from Canon and Apple. I know I am an orangutan but it still seems incredibly difficult, as if they have hidden the printer driver on the computer and as if Apple does not want you to install networked printers. Please don't tell me to RTFM, I have read the Canon manual, it tells you how to network with Windows, does not even mention Mac. Any advice appreciated.

Can't set up a printer to work with airport extreme...

Alright, I've been stuck here for a while.
I have an HP PCS 1310. I can set it up perfectly using a USB cable, but when i try to set it up via Airport Extreme, i can't.
When i try to set it up through airport, the computer doesn't know what drivers to use. It can find the printer, and it'll tell me the name, and the location, but it will ask me to choose what drivers to use. I can't find my printer on the list. I don't really know what to do.
I'm sorry for being so vague...I wish i could post some pictures (and if i can, can someone please explain how?)

Here is what fixed the printing issues for me:
1) Open up the Airport Utility and determine the IP address of your Airport.
2) Add the printer via System Prefs -> Printers (using Boujour)
3) Then, navigate to http://localhost:631. This will take you to the CUPS setting for the printers.
4) Go to "Manage Printers" on the CUPS setting for your printer.
5) Click on "Modify Printer." It will prompt you for your username and password for the computer (enter your short name that you use to login to your machine and password).
6) Click continue until you get to Device. Change this to AppSocket/HP JetDirect. Click continue.
7) Change to: socket://your_ip:9101
8) Continue on till you get to the end of the Modify Device section.
9) Open up Preferences -> Printers and print a test page.
If this doesn't work, try changing the port to 9102 instead of 9101.

How can I set 'Adobe PDF printer' as one of my printer choices?

I've given it half an hour. Can't seem to figure out how I can set 'Adobe PDF printer' as one of my printer options. I'm not sure if I need to download an Adobe file, and what folder I might need to place it in, and if I also need to add a specific driver.
I'm trying to create a PDF file that printers and outfits like www.lulu.com will accept. Printing an MS Word document via 'Adobe PDF printer' will allow me, I'm told, to produce a suitable PDF file.
Ideally I'm producing the original document in Pages - but I've been told by printers and lulu.com et. al. that no one out there likes PDF's produced by Pages ("not professional").
Any suggestions you might have would be most appreciated...

Forget the Lulu instruction about double click to install. Quit Acobat Distiller and Acrobat Pro. Move the Lulu joboptions file to the Adobe PDF Settings folder. The path to it is:

You're in the right folder when you see other joboptions files already in the Settings folder.
Next, launch Pages and open your document.

From the File menu, select Print
In the Print window, be sure the Printer is Adobe PDF 7
Click on Layout for a pop down list and select PDF Options
To the right of "Adobe PDF Settings" click for a pop up list and select Lulu
Click Print

There is no such thing as an iphone 4G. There is iphone 4 and iphone 4S.
If the printer is airprint-enabled, your phone will find it. If not, and there isn't an update to make it so, you will have to use an app to print.
If your printer has email address, you can email it whatever you want to print.

Can't set up wireless printing to J6480 from MacBook Air

Jeez, I'm getting frustrated. Usually I'm pretty good at this stuff but I just can't figure this simple thing out.
I want to print to my J6480 from my MacBook Air running OS10.8.2.
Am I missing something very simple? The HP article on setting up wireless printing just says, basically, open the HP Device Manager and follow the instructions. I think I downloaded the drivers just fine, but I got no "Hewlett Packard" folder in my Applications folder, I have no Device Manager app, and I can't figure out where to download it.

after many frustrating attempts I've found the solution was incredibly simple - try to check it yourself:
Open the main Network (System preferences) tab. On the left side you'll see the list of all network devices. Move the Wi-Fi field to the top (first) position in the list (you can do it via the pop-up menu next to the + and - buttons).
It was all I needed. Immediately after this I've got the access to wireless printing and scanning. No problem since then.
My configuration is Photosmart 5010 and MacOS 10.8.3, but the action is not printer specific, so it should work for all with the same problem.

I see that you are experiencing issues setting the default printer for users and you are unable to print over the network.
I would be happy to help you.
Do you mean individual computers setup with the printer over the network users or one computer with multiple users?
Do you have Admin Rights on the computer to make changes?
What is the full name and product number of your printer? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. http://www.hp.com/go/tools>Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows.
I would suggest you to check if you have a different user account or from an administration account.
I would also suggest you to create a new user account and check if you are able to set the printer as default.

What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)

I can't set up the Printer!

I was trying to set up the printer to use my printer: Canon IP3000.
However, whenever I connect the USB to my iBook G4, it didn't work at all.
I went to "System Preference" to fix that problem, I went to Printer and clicked on "add" and select "USB". Didn't work at all.
Somebody help me!

The download's link was on the first page of Canon USA. Here is the printer page - don't remember which printer you had but they are all listed here - you will have to see if there is anything about leopard compatibility when you get to your particular drivers.

Restart your printer and your WiFi router by removing power to them for 30 seconds.
Also make sure that the firmware in your printer is the latest from the manufacturer.

Can you set a default print quality?

Good Morning Everyone,
I've been putting up with this annoyance since I install PSE 8. I've looked for a solution but can't find one. Hope you can help.
Here's the problem.
Every time I print a document PSE 8 defaults to a print quality of 1200 dpi, which take forever to print. So I have been clicking on
Change setting, then if I click on the drop down box for print quality the only choice is 1200, so I click on advanced setting and choose
normal (which is 600) click ok and print. But I have to do this every time I print. I'm using a HP C3100 all in one printer and I've check the printer
properities and they are set to a default of normal (600 dpi). Any ideas?

We have had several posts recently relating to printers and PSEv.8. Check on the HP site for updated drivers for your model. If there is an updated driver, install it. Let us know how you make out.

Can't set up Canon S800 to share with PC

Hi All,
I have a Canon S800 which is hooked via USB into my G4. The G4 is hooked into a network via an ethernet hub. Two other Macs and a PC (with Windows XP) are also hooked into this hub.
The PC has internet access through this hub, and the Macs can access any shared folders/drives from this PC. However, I haven't yet been able to get the PC to access folders from the Macs.
In "Sharing" preferences, Printer, Personal File and Windows sharing have all been ticked.
In "Print and Fax" Preferences, the printer (S800) has also been ticked as being shared.
The other Macs on the network can access this printer without any problems.
When I go to add a networked printer on the PC (using the "Add Printer" Wizard), and browse for the printer, it does not appear on the network. My G4 will appear, but there is no printer associated with it.
This is new territory for me, where do I go now, please?

Managed to get in there anyway .
Looking at the link, it's for running the printer off the PC, and accessing it from the Mac. My printer is running off the Mac, and I want to access it through a PC that's also on the network.
I grabbed Bonjour for Windows, and that got things going for me. Thanks anyway for the link, it's a good one to know.
