Can't set up cluster
I am on FCS 3 and have all the recent updates. I am trying to run a single machine (imac i7) with compressor. i recently had to reinstall my OS and had it restore my user info from a backup.
There are no clusters.
In apple Qmaster System Preference - under "share this computer as", all 3 options are grey.
I have tried to "reset services" but nothing. "start sharing" is grey
I opened Apple QAministrator and tried to create a new cluster - under "controller:" on the right it says "none selected" and there are no other options. when i try to save teh cluster it tells me i have to select a controller.
how do i make a controller?
i am really stuck now - i tried to reinstall FCP but because i have run updates, it won't let me install. i dont want to have to reinstall my whole system again - any ideas?
You may need to uninstall/reinstall Compressor and QMaster. Sometimes, restoring from a backup can hose QMaster.

In System Preferences-Apple Qmaster, you'll need to select "Services and cluster controller". I used the information from the page below as a guideline to setup my local managed cluster in my MacPro:

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this as I have spent the whole afternoon trying to sort this out and nothing has worked.
I have a G5 quad as the main computer and two G4's.
Each has qmaster installed with the update. Each of the three is running os 10.4.11
I have set the Qmaster preferences on each machine as detailed in http://visionstudios.ca/RenderFarm/RenderFarmleft.html
I have got to the part where I drag and drop the three computers into the services window but it doesn't work.
I can drag the main computer but trying to drag the other two results in Qadministrator hanging for a very long time and then finally rejecting them.
Can anyone tell me what is going on? I'm using a Netgear DS516 stackable 10/100 switch/hub to link the machines.
I did change the "shared cluster storage" location on the two slave machines (to two different locations). Is this a problem. The locations a local to each of the three machines.
I already read a similar posting on here but the solution (resetting all services and restarting on all machines) has had no effect.

So in a perfect world you want to try and STOP queue master from looking outside you local lLAN (subnet) for the other macs. You can see most likely a load of queue master chatty whinging that it can find stuff on the network (console.app).
Anyways, here's a workaround that I do every time when transcoding with qmaster. I have my nodes connected via ethernet in an elcheapo GbE hub.
SIMPLY *turn off the AIRPORTS on all you macs*. If you are not using airports, then DISENGAGE the router paths of set up a new "system prefs/network/loation/ for "qmaster" that does NOT permit your network to go out to another high level network. (Make the network isolated or closed). I know many post houses that do his anyway.
THis will be a good start to islolatng your issues especially when clusters dont connect and they dont appear in COMPRESSOR and so on.
I hope Apple fixes this implementation in rumoured FCS3.
*PLAN B* - look at all the /var/logs for Qmaster instances and see what it is moaning about. Use the /applications/utilities/console.app
also make sure you have the SOURCE and TARGET file systems mounted on all nodes and specify to compressor in the prefs "never copy the source"..
Lots of other things to tweak.
AS alsways *search these forums* and you will get all the expertise from years and plenty of fixes and work arounds.

Where you assign the role depends on how you have setup your ume configuration - to the ABAP stack or have it managed in the Java stack

The previous post simply alludes to the fact that Unity doesn't have a built-in mailstore - instead it relies on Exchange (or in some cases, Domino). Unity can be set up in a Voicemail Only configuration or Unified Messaging configuration. If you have Unity, AD, and Exchange installed all on one box then this is usually indicative of voicemail only. In other words, your Unity server is also a domain controller and Exchange server in a standalone domain used just for itself. When you create subscribers, an associated AD and Exchange account are created but within the domain associated with Unity (not the domain users log into so the users are only aware of the phone login credentials). In Unified Messaging, your Unity would be a MEMBER of an existing AD domain and would integrate with a corporate Exchange server or cluster. In this configuration, the account associated with a subscriber is the account they use everyday - in other words, their voicemail resides in their Exchange inbox that they connect to via Outlook.
My guess is that you have voicemail only configuration today but are looking to do 1 of 3 things:
1) Unified Messaging - voicemail is actually integrated with your corporate Exchange and all voicemails natively reside in the inbox
2) Mail Relay - voicemail messages are relayed from the existing Unity to an email address configured for a user
3) Integrated Messaging - user can configure an IMAP folder in their email client and have access to voicemail from within a separate mailbox in the client

In OBIEE 11g, clustering is enabled by default during installation. There are only one instance of BI Server in the cluster though initially. Now, scaling of BI components(increasing the number of instances) is possible at two levels.
1. Vertical scaling : Increasing the number of instances of various BI Components running in the same system. Yes, say we can increase the BI Server instances to 2 and notice that there are two nqserver.exe processes.
2. Horizontal Scaling: The BI instances can be run on a different system and be a part of the same cluster.
You can notice the same thing in EM -> Business Intelligence -> Core Application -> Capacity Management -> Scalability tab

Good question, but I'm 99.9% certain the answer is "no". Here are some considerations:
Think of the heritage of iOS. It really started with iPhones and maybe iPods. These devices cost a whole lot less than a Mac. They are generally not thought of as shared (with exceptions, of course, as is true for you).
Think of the backup process. i-devices typically sync with one iTunes on one computer. How would an i-device with multiple users enstantiate this?
Anyway, all this is to say I'm convinced you cannot do what you're inquiring about. -
Is there a way that iTunes can act as a Radio Alarm Clock?
I have found the radio station I enjoy listening to in the iTunes Radio List. Is there anyway iTunes (and my Mac) can be set to come-on from Sleep mode and start playing that Radio Station at specific times of the day?
Any App or plug-in that does that?

1. In iTunes create a playlist that contains just the radio station you want to wake up to.
2. Export the playlist (as .m3u works well). Get Info on your playlist file and look at the Open With entry to make sure it points to iTunes, VLC or some other app that will stream your station.
3. In iCal create an event entry at the time you want to wake up.
4. Right (or Control) click on your wakeup event and select Get Info.
5. For "alarm" select Open File.
6. Now under Open File there will be a place to add the file to open. It will probably be some default entry (like iCal). Click on it will allow you to select "other." Then use the file dialog to select your playlist file.
Your Mac will wake you up at the appointed time. You don't need to keep iCal running. If you want to put you Mac to sleep for the night then there is one more thing you need to do. Open System Preferences to Energy Saver and click on the Schedule button. Check Start up or wake and set the wake up time to slightly before your iCal alarm time.

Can you set a "default" web page in a KM folder?

I've been playing around with using Adobe Contribute to edit web pages in a CM Repository. It was easy to create a CM repository, put some web pages and supporting CSS, images etc. in there, and create a KM navigation iView that displays the default page. Setting up Adobe Contribute to edit those pages via a WebDAV protocol was simple too, and to be honest I find the Contribute interface and functionality easier to use (particularly from the average end user's point of view) and implement than the Portal's built-in HTML editor, or the Web Page Composer.
But then I ran into a snag. In order to be able to "administer" the site with Contribute (or Dreamweaver), it creates an _mm folder and puts a "guard" page in it. The guard page is a file which would be returned to the browser when it tries to access a folder. In a normal website that would be a "default" page (e..g index.htm, default.htm etc.), but in the Portal there doesn't seem to be a way to have one. I believe that's why if you try to access a folder through a browser you get:
"The folder you are looking for has no displayable content.
You can try one of the following:
Access the folder using the Navigation user interface.
Access the folder as a Web folder. Your operating system and browser dictate whether or not this will work."
That's what happens if I use something like http://<host name>:<port number>/irj/go/km/docs/<repository prefix>/<folder name>/ as a URL, though http://<host name>:<port number>/irj/go/km/docs/<repository prefix>/<folder name>/default.htm works just fine (as you would expect). And I can retrieve a fake "guard" page using http://<host name>:<port number>/irj/go/km/docs/<repository prefix>/<folder name>/_mm/default.htm
An Adobe technote confirms this as problem - [Guard Page not found|http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_f3675780_en-us]. Does any one know if a default page can be set in a CM repository.

It's almost the way I want it, but a couple of things:
- I want everyone nickname but mine in gray
- I want the join/quit text (... has joined/quit) in gray
- I want the mode (@, +, etc) in yellow
I tried to format the text according irssi site, but without luck.
For example tried this to change others nickname color:

And I can't merge calls .Both of those functions are carrier dependent so you may want to contact your cellular carrier.

I have created a report in WebI and now I am to set up some filters as Null and some Not Null.
How can I set my WebI filters to Null and not Null?

As you said you could do it at the report level and also at the universe level.
One more way is to create the filters in the universe levele and add them in thequery filter.
Ex: in the filter you need to write :
Column1 is null and and column 2 is not null etc.

No, but you do not need iTunes to setup a new iPhone 5s. Create an iCloud backup for anything you want to transfer to the new iPhone.

How can I set up Cinema Display as a main screen and leave my macbook pro as a second screen instead?
I learned that the Dock is positioned at the chosen edge of whatever Display is positioned farthest to that side. E.g. for the Dock to be positioned on the right side of the Cinema Display (instead of the right side of the MacBook), the Cinema Display must be oriented (by dragging) to the right of the MacBook monitor on the "Arrangement" tab of the Displays Preference Panel.
