Can't set up my router..

Hi all, first time poster.
This has been driving me crazy over last 2 hours.
We had 1 laptop and 1 desktop.  We used to have router hooked up to the desktop.
However, due to personal reasons, I'm having router connected directly to my laptop and have desktop use wireless using wireless adaptor.  My laptop will be used as desktop for now till I get a new desktop.
Internet works fine when laptop is connected directly from Cable modem.
However, when I connect router (using EasyLink Connect), network would look for network address, properly find IP address, then go to "Invalid IP address, limited or no connectivity" stage 5 seconds after.
I've tried resetting winsock settings, manually setting IP address (and gateway etc), and using different type of cables, including CAT5 cables.  I've also downloded SP2 link (hotfix) that was found by searching this forum.
What can I do? Router shows red light on "Diag" section, but I don't know what it means.  Router is BEFW11S4 v.3.
Please help!

First, try to reset your router to factory defaults.  For more information on this, see my previous post at:
http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=15455
If this does not work, then try to reload your firmware using a TFTP program.
If this does not work, your router is dead.

I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network".

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Can I set a default home page when people use my router?

Can I set a default home page when people use my router?
Can I set it to my web site for example so that people have to go there when they connect?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Hello EireReality. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can I set a default home page when people use my router?
No, at least not that I'm aware of. Setting a "default home page" is typical feature of a web browser, not an Internet router.

  • Can I set a schedule for use of the internet with this router?

can I set a schedule the internet?

The Airport Express is not a router
The AirPort Express is most certainly a wireless router, capable of 10 wireless connections. See the lit and specifications for more details on this router.
    AirPort Express
In addition, using the Timed Access feature on the Express, it is possible to establish daily time limits for all devices that will connect to the network.
This can be done globally for all devices, or individual time limits can be established for each separate device that connects through the AirPort Express.

  • Can I set up a wifi router to receive an internet signal by connecting it to a computer?

Can I set up a wifi router to recieve an internet signal by connecting it to a computer?
It seems to me that routers are designed to connect directly to the internet by programming their firmware with connection info.
I'd like to connect a computer to the internet, then connect a router to that computer.
Essentially, I want a internet signal that comes through a computer before being made wireless. Is that possible?

To connect the computer to the Internet you still need some physical component, for example a wireless USB dongle. So if you want to have the Mac connecting to the Internet and then share this connection to other devices using wireless, then you can enable Internet Sharing on the Mac and select to share its Airport (wireless) connection to the other devices (which turns the Mac into a form of access point). Then the other wireless devices can connect to the Mac and use the Mac's Internet connection, which could be a wireless USB dongle or an Ethernet connection to a cable modem.

  • WRT54G....Can I set DHCP to use the router for DNS instead of external DNS?

Hi folks. I cant' get my router to have DHCP tell my PCs that the router should be the DNS server instead of the external servers it is using. I am using Comcast Cable internet. It sets the external DNS servers for every PC that connects to it and I have problems finding my PCs on my network by NetBIOS name because the external DNS servers obviously don't store my local PCs. How can I set the router up to set DHCP to use the router for DNS?

If you cannot set the DNS server in the configuration page for the DHCP server in your router then your router does not support this.
This won't solve your problem though. The DNS server on the router is a simply forwarder. It simply forwards the DNS requests from your computer to the ISP's DNS servers. The DNS server does not accept dynamic updates to a private zone inside your LAN. And DNS is pretty much unrelated to the standard windows workgroup browsing which does the actual name resolution inside your LAN. That name resolution even works without a router inside your network. Basically all windows computers in your network periodically broadcast their name to the network. One windows computers is elected "master browser" which collects all these names and provides the name resolution service for all computers in the workgroup.
If this does not work it is most likely a windows configuration problem. It could be a software firewall on the computers which blocks traffic. It could be that the computers are not setup for file/printer sharing and thus have the computer browser disabled. It could be that your computers have a WINS server configured which does not exist. There are probably more causes. The better source to ask this question would probably a Microsoft support group. They deal with these kinds of issues more often and maybe a MVP may be able to point you into the right direction or give some links to step-by-step instructions...

  • EA6350: Set up worked fine, my nw is working, but now I can't login to the router

The setup went well, I was able to configure the network wirelessly on the web-based console.  The networks are working fine (both 2.4 and 5Gz).   A few days have passed and I wanted to check out some of the other management feature of the console (checking who is logged in, etc) and keep getting the message below.  Why can't I access the router?
Your router was not successfully setup.
    Follow these steps:
    1. Press and hold the red Reset button on the back of your router for at least 10 seconds.
    2. During reset, the router will restart and the power light will flash. Wait until the power light is solid.
    3. Reconnect this computer or device to the default wireless network. You can find the wireless network name and password in the Quick Start Guide or on the label on the back of your router.
    4. When finished, click here to run through setup again.
If you follow the steps above and see this error screen again, visit our website for troubleshooting tips or to chat with a Customer Support representative. To access the website, you may have to use a different computer or mobile device that has Internet access, or connect this computer directly to your modem.

Are you using the local log in link or the smartwifi log in? Try the local log in link.
PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.
    PC Web Browser Configurations
    What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
    Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
    Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
    Enable phishing and malware protection

  • How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between my iPhone 4 & my wireless Linksys WRT54G router?

How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between this iPhone I bought and my wireless Linksys router (WRT54G) that I'm using for home netwrking for my PCs?
Tried settings on iPhone, selceted Wi-Fi connection, then pressed my network name shown on this iPhone, but nothing happens after that.

Do you not get the icon on the top bar of the iPhone?
Once you press on the network, the iPhone should connect to it. If the Network has a wep or WPA key it should be requested at that time.
Once the above has been completed, then the iPhone is connected. And you can use the wifi conneftion to browse the internet. It should also show a checkmark next to the network signifying it connected.
If its having trouble connecting or taking some time you should see the   next to the network spinning around.

  • Can I set two router IP on my solaris x86 server?

    Andrew Choi

Yes, you can use solaris x86 as a NAT box.
add another ethernet interface, and install
    IP-filter, or sunscreen
I suggest you search the solaris newsgroups on

  • Can you set up a wireless network/router using only the iPad?

Can you set up a wireless network/modem/router using only an iPad - if you don't have a computer?

You actually can as most routers come with a web interface that lets you tinker with all things with regard to set up and connection.
You have to choose though as there are other routers that would require you to plug-it in to a computer first, as they have a desktop application to make way for easier set-up.
But for everything else, it is done through a web client which is just like accessing any web site.

  • Can someone help me set up my router?

i have a buffalo router with bridge mode a.k.a accesspoint capability. now, i am familiar with setting up the router in router mode. but recently i got a new connection which comes along with a dhcp enabled modem and uses static ip. i just have to plug in the modem to the macbook and net starts working. i dont need to set the ip either. however, i case the ip is wrong all i need to do is set the fixed ip in 'network' and its up and running.
now i tried setting my buffalo router in access point mode with both automatic as well as manul ip configs but it doesnot work. infact it doesnot accept my ip saying that my ip and gateway are of differnt domain. buffalo has no online supprt or proper documentation.
i know this is apple exclusive website but since this has got to do with networking with my mac i posted here. can someone give me step by step instrections? thanks in advance.
    Neerav

cable modem is handling the dhcp.
to use a router properly then it is best to turn off the dhcp server in the cable modem. You only want it to pass the WAN (Public IP address) to the router.
So you connect the cable modem to your router's wan port. You then connect your mac to the router using a ethernet cable. Then you configure the router using its WebUI by entering its ip address into your webrowser usually http://192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 etc
    These are generic instructions.
Then you setup your internet connection to receive ip automatically.
Then goto router's wireless settings. Change the SSID to a name of your choosing other than the brand name of the router.
Change the wifi security to WPA-psk, tkip and set a good strong WPA passphrase.
    Save the setttings.
Remove the ethernet cable from your mac click the airport icon in the menu bar, choose your new network and enter your wpa password.

  • Problems setting up static routing

    HI
I'm having a problem setting up static routing.  I keep getting the message "invalid static route".   I have an E1550 router and my frimware is up to date.  I have tried a few different gateway addresses ie 192.168.1.1,  127.0.0.1 and my router's address on the net, but I keep getting the same message.  Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?

I think the E1550 router supports LAN to LAN routing provided that you have two local networks. If you only have a plain modem and the E1550, I believe you can't do Static routing on that type of setup.
