Can't set up new Mail accounts on N8

I want to add another email account to my N8 (and set it up as IMAP rather than POP3 if possible?) however, I have to set it up through the Wizard, there doesn't seem to be a way of manually setting one up since PR1.1 update (correct?)
However, whenever I try, my phone attempts to contact Nokia's mail server or something and says 'Preparing for setup' for ages then times out. It then asks me for a username and password, and the only options I get for setting up a mail account is a Microsoft Exchange Server option, which I don't think Yahoo mail offer!
Can anyone help?

Just a thought network access point is defined as Priority 1 in internet destinations rather than WLAN?

How can I set up my mail account to receive mail?

I have a brand new imac i'sight 3.06 Ghz, 500GB etc. I have added my UK hotmail email account to the mail application and I am able to send email directly from the application from my hotmail mailbox, but when i press 'Get new mail' the bar flashes and shows that I am receiving mail but I cannot see it in the inbox.
Can anyone help?
I can send email, but I cannot see email in my inbox.

I don't have Hotmail, but generally, web based email accounts need to be set up within that account (in this case Hotmail) - you need to go to your Hotmail account and check if it can be set up as an IMAP or POP account with emails automatically being forwarded to Mail. Hopefully someone with a Hotmail account will chime in with more specific info; in the meantime, check out the options in your account there.

GAH! How Can I Set Up My Mail Accounts?

I have 15 email accounts in total, each with it's own unique 64 character password. Manually setting up email accounts on my devices is clearly not an option. No worries, because up until today, I simply synced my mail account data from iTunes. You only have to do it once, you don't need any sort of on-going email account data syncing. The accounts keep their own mail in sync, so the 'setup sync' was a one time deal. And I didn't sync the accounts with mobile me, or later icloud, because I wanted different accounts on differnet devices.
Well I just got my new iPhone 5S and I'm trying to set up my mail. But I can't! There's no way to sync Mail data! I tried turning on iCloud Keychain (which was a complete disaster the first time I tried to use it, but I need my email!) I tried deleteing my iCloud account and re-adding it on my phone (and my old phone that I erased, and re-setting up as an iPod). But no matter what I do, I can't get any mail accounts to show up.
I NEED my email on my phone. There is no way around it, I cannot function without that. I don't even put my phone number on my business cards any more, only email. Email HAS TO WORK. But thanks to Apple, I can't get it on there.
It would seem that my only option is to get it to sync via iCloud Keychain? That's going to cause me an unlimited amount of headaches, but if that's the only way to get mail accounts to sync, then I guess that's what I have to do. But how do I do it? I have turned on iCloud Keychain on all of my devices and computers, but no mail accounts are syncing.
All my Macs are currnetly on Mavericks, and all my devices (iPad mini, iPhone 4S deactivated, iPhone 5s) are on iOS 7.

Are you saying it isn't working or are you trying to add a third party address (ie gmail, yahoo etc etc) to your mail account and expecting it to work like an IMAP account.

Problem setting up new mail account

I think when I got my macbook about 3 years ago I must have tried to set up an account for the 'mail' application. I no-longer remember wither my user-name or my password. When I open the app it comes up with a window explaining that I will be given guide-lines on how to create a new account, however, no guidelines are given and it just wants me to enter my use name and password, which it then does not recognise (it seems to therefore assume that I already have an account rather than helps me to set one up). The ending of the user-name is already written in (and is unalterable, as it's outide the bit I type in) and is "@mac.com" even though my Apple ID ends in "@mac.co.uk" (as I am from the UK) - should any of the details for my mail account be the same as my Apple ID?
Would be grateful for some help!

Hi amiaba, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I can't quite tell what it's doing, but open Keychain Access in Applications>Utilities, click on your Keychain on the left, put .mac in the search bar, once you find it, double click on it and click show password.
If you have no mail in there try this with Mail quit.
Drag this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Start Mail & see if it steps you through it.
Not sure on the .uk thing, but is Date & Time>Time Zone set to the UK?

How can I set an outlook mail account to the mail app in mac

My outlook mail account doesn't work in the mail app, it keeps asking for my password everyday, and the outgoing mail server says "outlook.com (dissconected)".

I'm not sure how to set it up so my flagged emails, sent messages, and read messages will show the same in my MacBook Pro and my MacBook Air. This seems like it would be a simple problem to fix, but I can't figure it out.

Can't set up my mail account. Virgin info says it should be POP Mac says it is IMAP

I am trying to set up my email account. I have recently changed from windows to a mac. Virgin media say it should be a POP account - Mac says IMAP on account type. I have at least three mail accounts now and non of them work. How can I re-start mail set up. Any help would be great. Thank you.

If mail has lready been downloaded you need to back it up before you delete the account, POP does not synchronize mailboxes so you may have the only copies of your mail on your computer so:
In Mail, go to Mailbox>Export Mailbox and repeat for each mailbox with content you want to keep.
Then delete the whole account and re-enter it but leave the password blank, click create and you will get to a manual setup page in which you can choose iMap/Pop etc. You will need to know the correct server settings so get them from Virgin.
From this page (VirginMedia mail Setup) it appears that VirginMedia mail is POP only so you can't change it to iMap.

Can't Set Up Yahoo Mail Account

Hi,
I have a @yahoo.com.au account and keep getting an error when trying to set it up using the Yahoo! Mail setup on the mail app. It keeps saying the username or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com".
I tried setting it up manually using POP, but while it can at least receive emails, it can't send!
Does anyone have a way of fixing either of these problems?

Login to your Yahoo account on your computer to make sure the password is correct.
Does the password or Yahoo! ID have any special characters? Mobile devices can experience compatibility limits with passwords that contain special characters. If your password contains any special characters you can always log on to a computer and change your Yahoo password so to something that's more compatible.

Can't create a new mail account

Hi everybody,
My internet provider changed it's name from direcway.com to hughes.net, so that ment that I had to change my email account. I deleted the old direcway.com address, now I'm trying to make a new hughes.net account. I click on mail and the new accounts window opens and I start the process. After inputting the incoming mail server info and password, then click continue my computer checks the connection to POP server mail.hughes.net, then checks the login for my username. And that's as far as it goes, and the login to POP server mail.hughes.net failed. One other thing, I don't have a POP server, it's a POP3 server, and even though I've tried I'm not sure where to input that. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Discussions.
Hopefully these other responses will assist you in completing the new account setup. However, let me also point out that you can proceed in the setup, even though connection fails, and sometimes this is necessary to later gain access to use a different Port than the default. But, I am sure Mail will default to Port 110 for POP, and this would only be useful if the server should be approached on a different Port, and you would edit this in the Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced.
Probably not needed, but just clarifying.

Windows 8.1, Surface Pro, 2 Outlook 2013 32bit - when attempting to set up new mail account with exchange 365 - "An encrypted connection to your mail server is unavailable"

It then tells me to "Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection".
I then follow the prompts but to no avail.

According to your description, your office 365 account cannot be configured on your Surface Pro while it can work on your Windows 7 client.
Maybe we can try to manually configure it. and you can also use network monitor to find the root cause.

Hi I have just got a new I pad can I set up new mail folders

Can I add extra folders in mail? On my ipad2

I've got accounts that are Yahoo based where I've been able to create folders - I suppose the only way to be sure is to login to your account on a browser, create a folder, and see if it appears in the Mail app. I'm not sure whether it will appear immediately, or whether you'll need to re-open Mail.
To close an app completely so that you can re-open it afresh, from the home screen (i.e. not with the app 'open' on-screen) by double-clicking the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of any app that you want to close, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

Can't set up new itunes account because confirmation email comes to old email address (can see it on iMac but can't access on iPhone)...what to do?

Use Manage Apple ID in the link provided. You do not need to create a new Apple ID as the other poster suggesred. Once done you old e-mail wo't be used as an Apple ID anymore.
Do you have music, apps or books bought using the old Apple ID?
Note: Content bought using one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.

Setting up web mail account for OWA

Company just coverted OWA mail to cloud on a Outlook Web App. Can access via iMAC, but can't set up as mail account on iPad or iPhone.

I've not tested it but if you simply leave the incoming mail server field in the Mail account preferences blank for that account blank but set up the outgoing server and do not check "include when automatically checking new mail" you should be able to send but not receive
OR undo the forward that you have set up from #2 to #1 and use both normally
