Can't share audio/video/screen on local network

My wife and I are both running Leopard 10.5.6, iChat 4.0.7. We're on our local network and can send texts without problem. We can't seem to start video/audio or screen sharing, however. One of us will make the request, and our computer will say "waiting for response", but the other never receives any connection request. Both of us have mic/camera/screen sharing enabled under the Video menu on our respective computers. Any thoughts?

Hi,
It depends what you mean in the first place by "Local Network"
If this is the computers in your home are connected together then we need to know if you are using the Bonjour Buddy List or not.
Whether it is the Bonjour or AIM (Or Jabber) Buddy list then we need to know what you set up in your Macs and routing device to allow AIM contacts or Bonjour contact.
For instance in System Preferences > Security > Firewall it has to be set to Allow All or Allow Specific apps and have iChat in the list as iChat is not an Essential App.

So it was your mail server limitations.  Well, as I said, that's what these media sharing services are for.
It depends on the service, but generally up to about 1GB can be uploaded for free.  You are given a unique and private url of the upload which you give to people who you want to allow to download it.  They can then download the file you uploaded (again for free).
When you do the upload you are also given instructions on how to delete your upload if you wish.  It's usually another url.  Then you can delete it later if you wish or just leave up there as long as you want.
The only restrictions on using these services for free (other than the max file size) is that most will throttle down the download speed and limit how soon you could do two downloads back to back.  Also they ask for a capcha.  Basically they try to be as annoying as possible to make you pay them for their service.
By the way, IMO, rapidshare is one of the most annoying of them all.
I am not familiar with the one Matt Clifton is recommending.  It's probably is as good as any to choose.  As I said there are hundreds of them.  All have a similar paradigm (free vs. paid).  Google something like "sites like rapidshare" and you tons of them.

DropBox is another possibility for sharing files and it is free for the first 2GB of storage.

From your screen name would it be safe to guess that you will be using it in Egypt? If your carrier uses is a GSM network you can do as Chris suggests.
From the Apple page http://www.apple.com/eg/buy/   there is a link to Arab Buisness Machine, they sell the iPad 2 and offer local support should any problems arise.

  • How can I see the PC on my local network

How can I see the PC on my local network. With Leopard installed I see the others Mac on the network but ot the PC. But the PC see me. What happen and How I can resolve that.

Have you tried connecting to the PC via the Finder's "Connect to Server…" and used the IP address?
    It would be smb://server.ip.address/sharename
Do you have the workgroup set up in the network preferences for the service that you are connected to your LAN with.
There is also a problem on Leopard where the workgroup doesn't stay set, so if that is the case, you need to duplicate the service (ethernet, airport, etc) and use the duplicate. You can then remove the original.

  • No audio/video/screen-sharing problem in iChat 4.0

I've been using iChat for years (since its original release) and since upgrading to 10.5 I can no longer audio or video chat; and the new screen-sharing option doesn't work either.
I connect to the net through an AirPort wireless network, which is connected to an ADSL Nation X-Modem/Router. I have a 2Mbps connection. As far as I know all the required ports are open on the router. My friend has the same ISP as me (Force9) and has made sure he has the same ports open on his router too.
I've adjusted my iChat settings to port 443 with no SSL and a Bandwidth limit of 500 Kbps in iChat; and QuickTime settings to 1.5 Mbps in System Preferences. I've read other discussions on this forum suggesting these options.
However, nothing seems to work. I can't even get audio and video to work across Bonjour on my home network any more. I'd be grateful for any help anyone can offer.

    Hi,
Technically it should not matter if you are using AIM or @Mac names.
However you have solved that bit.
The Screen Sharing part uses three ports.
Two randomly picked ports for the Screen Sharing and the same A/V port for the Audio component. As the Airport is normally set to Share An IP and does NAT on the fly so to speak this also should not be a problem
The ADSLNAtion site is a bit behind on it's Airport page
http://www.adslnation.com/support/knowledgebase/ht007.php as it shows the older Firmware pics.
    I found the new page
    http://www.adslnation.com/knowledgebase/xmodem+airport-11n.php
This says that the DNS server info in the Airport needs to be removed.
It is not clear if this is a variation for the X-Modem M3
Very few of the posts here http://forum.adslnation.com/viewforum.php?f=3 are after Leopard came out and nothing appears to be about iChat.
So it would somewhat depend if the Airport is Sharing and IP or is Static to the computer and Port Mapping used.

  • Can't share audio only

    I'm running an iMac 27' 3,4 GHz i7 32GB, FCP X 10.0.9 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB.
    OS: 10.8.5
I've already trashed the preferences and re instaled FCP X.
I've tried to share audio only in AIFF, WAVE and I always get the same error:
"The share operation Export File has failed
Can't set floating point format and sample-size > 32 bits"
If I try to share audio in ACC FCP X simply crashes.
When I try to share video In any way but exporting a master file FCP X crashes as well.
I've tried sharing audio of the same project in another machine and theres no problem what so ever.
    Can anybody help me please?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for the response.
1 - As I mentioned before I've already trashed the preferences, will the Preference Manager make anything different?
2 - Desabled auto-render and deleted render files but didn't work
It's not project specific. Old and new projects all show the same error

  • Can you share audio books

We purchased with the family apple id on an ipad an audio book. We are trying to share the audio book to another computer that is authorized but are unable to and the home sharing is active  what else should we do

ckuan, he is referring to 'audiobooks' not 'ebooks'. Yes, you can access and playback audiobooks on a computer.
To answer the original question. When you bought the audiobook from the iPad did you also download it to the computer? My audiobooks share across the network and with my iOS devices just like all the other media I have including music, movies and TV shows. It will also get synced back to the computer you use to sync with your iPad for backups. It can be shred from that computer as well.
Be aware you can't share it from the iPad to a computer. You will need to download it separately on the computer from the iTunes Store. It will not be a new purchase it should download for free since you already paid for it on the iPad. It should show up in your iTunes in the Cloud purchased list when you view it in iTunes on a computer. Look for your purchased list on the right-hand side of the iTunes windows under Quick Links.

  • HT4914 Can it share audio books?

Can the cloud share audio books between ipad mini and iPhone 4?

No, audiobooks are one-time only downloads from the store - you will need to sync them to any deivce that you want them on. If they aren't on your computer's iTunes then you should be able to copy them over from the device that they are on via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, and you can then sync them to your other device(s).

  • Can't share a video from imovie

I just finished a 6 min video in imovie that I want to share, but whatever "share" option I choose (youtube, vimeo, or even saving as a file) it fails. The error message I get is "video rendering error -50" .  Does someone know what that means and most of all how I can finally share my project?
    Thanks

Ok i just posted this question too.. I am having the same problem.. I created a 19 minute video and got that same fail notification and so I created a smaller 5 minute one to see if that mattered and I got the same error message! HELP!

  • How can I share HD video recorded from my iPhone 4s

How can I send a video recorded on my iPhone 4s to someone so they can view it in HD? I tried sending the video via mms, but I understand the video will be compressed and the viewer will not see the recording in HD

    Hey Ravengirlaa,
Great question! The answer is going to depend on how the photos were originally organized:
    A) The albums were synced to your iPhone from iTunes
    B) The albums were manually created on your iPhone from photos in the Camera Roll
The following excerpt would apply for situation B:
excerpt from page 71 of the iPhone User Guide - http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
If the photos were synced from your computer, please refer to this article (section "To delete photos and videos from your device"):
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes

  • Can't open audio/video settings, losing audio also

    Hi folks
Get a general error (34) when I go to access audio video settings. I tried trashing prefs per the advice in another thread, but still get the error.
When editing, audio seems to be working fine as long as I don't send it out to my monitor. Then the audio drops out completely. Audio and video playback is set to firewire ntsc, and audio follows video. On audio, the rest of the options are grayed out, so I was trying to get into the av settings to see what's going on.
The setup has been working fine before but I don't recall if I changed any settings. Also it's FCP HD 4.5. Thanks

I selected 'none' for video playback and it let me into the av settings. The only option not grayed was 'built in audio," so I selected that. Then back in my sequence, I chose video playback 'firewire ntsc." It then let me select audio settings and I chose built in audio." Then it worked.
Hope this helps someone with the same issue in the future.

  • Can't find computers or drives on local network

I cannot find any networked computers or harddrives on my local network. I can connect to the internet through my timecapsule, but I cannot access it or any of the other computers (all macs) in the house, either wirelessly or wired. They do not show up under "Network" in finder nor can I ping them.
The other computers successfully find and mount each other, the timecapsule, and my computer.
I recently put in new ram; could this be the culprit?
    How do I fix this??
    Thank you very much!

    upgraded to snow-leopard

  • Can't access BI 11g server from local network.

    I have a problem..
Hope someone can tell me the solution.
I've installed BI Publisher 11g in my server. From the server, I can access it via web browser with URL http://localhost:7001/xmlpserver/servlet/home
The problem is, when I try to access it from other PC in my local network with URL http://10.11.9.190:7001/xmlpserver/servlet/home, the page fail to show and there's connection timed out error.
I'm using Windows7 in my server.
Is there any configuration that I missed?
    Thanks for helping me..

The best way around firewalls is to stream using port 80. This is a preference setting in QuickTime Streaming Server and QuickTime Broadcaster. This will allow the stream to pass through the hole in the firewall usually used for HTML (web page) traffic. HOWEVER, you cannot use this port if you are also running web server services (Apache) on the same computer/server since they need to use port 80 also. If you need to host a web site AND stream QuickTime using port 80, you will need two computers (or at least two IP addresses; one for each service which is a little tricky. If both services are trying to use port 80, weird things will happen, most often the HTML data will rule and the streams won't work. This has been my experience. Good luck!

  • Skype for Business client not responding after audio/video/screen sharing

    Hi Everyone,
I have a strange situation in my organisation. We have more than 200 clients and we are using Lync 2013. When Skype for Business (SFB) came out I tested it and found one problem - every time when I trying to make a audio or video call or what ever kind of
file sharing or screen sharing then SFB client will hang and have error "SFB not responding". I can click restart the client and close button. So it´s not possible to call or share anything with that. Specially bad is that is eferyone else is calling
to me it cause the same problem - client will die. So it´s very easy to kill my client :) At the beginning I thought that it´s my computer problem but then it turned out that allmost all clients have the same problem. Computers are different kind of Lenovo
    laptops.
What can cause the problem? I have installed and reinstalled the client. I have updated all the drivers. I have removed Personal Skype to make sure that it won´t cause the problem but problem is still there. Server itself is updated with latest CU and Skype
for Business UI is enabled as default UI.
    Br,
    Taavi

    Hi,
Please try to uninstall the default Sound Card, VGA Device/Video Card, Graphic Card, and use the default system driver to test the issue. Because sometimes update driver to the latest version doesn't work but only use the default system.
Please also make sure OS system update to the latest version.
