Can't share files with Macbbok Air and Windows XP PC

Despite several calls to apple support I am still unable to share files with the PC.The PC is wired to the router and the macbook is wireless.
I can see the shared files on my PC in the finder of the MAC but whan I click on the file it says that 'original item "shared file" cannot be found'.
or when connecting via go-connect to server-, the error message
' the volume "Shared file" cannot be mounted' appears, this is followed by a message 'sorry the operation could not be completewd because an unexpected error occurred (Eror code -6602)
I can also only connect as a guest via Finder and sometimes when trying to connect the error maessages do not appear but the computer seems to absorb a lot of CPU usage, get hot and freeze.
Any ideas please?
I have tried turning off firewalls on both computers and have spoken to support for the d link router who confirmed that the router doesnt block file sharing.

Actually, I just typed in smb://PCNAME without any folders, logged in as a guest (I don't have a password-enabled share setting in Windows 7), and my Mac kindly asked me which volume to mount. I chose Users, and it popped up in Finder. Fully browsable.

Just brought new macbook Air. Main fault so far is that depsite seeing shared files in finder the error massages:
    'unable to find original item'
or file cannot be mounted occur.
i also can only connect as 'guest'
worst still on some attempts to connect to the Pc the MAC goes into hyperspace becomes very hot and unresponsive with the beachball still appearing after several attempts to cmd alt esc.
I have now had to hold down the on off button three times in as many days
Does this MAC need to go back to the shop?
Is the windows sharing with leopard 10.5 still an unresolved issue?

No iDisk-like functionality exists in iCloud. You'll have to look elsewhere, such as Dropbox or SugarSync.

  • Still not sure how to share files with my friend's Windows PC?

I went through all the help pages concerning this, but it doesn't seem to help any. On our house internet connection, both our computers use the same IP address. I tried connecting directly to his computer using ethernet cable, but his computer never showed up. Our workgroup name should be the same, his is WORKGROUP but I'm not sure how to officially make mine that. I went to Network in System Preferences and clicked on Advanced... then went to the WINS tab and it has workgroup in the workgroup box, does this mean my computer is using that workgroup name? I'm at a loss and would like to share files with my friend's computer.

    Do you have a router?
If not then sharing files will not be easy.

    Select SMB/CIFS
    Click Configure
Change Workgroup to match the Windows Workgroup.

  • Can't share files between 10.6 and 10.4 macs

When I try to  copy a file from my MacBookPro running 10.6.8 to my pb-g4 running 10.4.11 first I get a request for my password, next I get an alert saying, "A newer  item named xxxx already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?" When this alert shows up, yes, the title of the file with size zero KB has newly appeared on the 10.4 mac. I click replace and get an alert that says, "The operation can't be completed because an item with the “” already exists." But the file didn't exist in that location before trying to copy.  How do I fix this other than using sneakernet technology.
The reason I  need to do this is that I want to print on a networked Kyocera Mita CS2050 printer.  There appears to be no driver for the printer compatible with OS 10.6. If I use a generic driver, I have no access to printer features like two sided printing.

I know the 10.4 driver won't work in Snow  Leopard. That's why I'm trying to transfer files to my old Powerbook from which  I can  print.  The Kyocera Mita Copystar 2550 is a laser printer/copier, so as far as I know, GutenPrint won't work with it. I downloaded new drivers from Kyocera Mita, but I  can't get Snow Leopard to work with it.
The Copystar is connected via ethernet. It works fine from other 10.4 macs.
The ironic thing is that I also have an older hp color Laserjet 3550 (usb). About 5 years ago it stopped working on  10.4 and if I  wanted to print anything, I had to restart my powerbook in 10.5 or print through my daughter's computer.  When I got my MacBookPro 10.6, the hp works fine.
But the more serious problem is that I need to be able to share files between these computers. I have no problem copying files to another 10.4 mac on the network, just to the  powerbook.

Emails/text the files to each device.

  • Can AirDrop share files with an iPod Touch?

Can AirDrop be used to send and receive PDFs (or other files) between a MacPro and a 3rd gen iPod Touch?

No. AirDrop is for sharing files between AirDrop users, meaning Macs with Lion installed, and even so, as babowa says, not every Mac supports it. It's a Lion feature, currently not present in iOS.

  • How can ipad share files with windows pc?

Can the iPad be connected to a Windows 7 PC and used to share files between Word and Pages?

Word files can be opened and edited in Pages on the iPad and you can send the files to the iPad via email, by using a service like DropBox or by using iOS file sharing. This will explain how to use file sharing.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4094
You might want to be aware of the fact that some editing features will be lost from the Word files when you open them Pages - fonts will be limited - some formatting issues may arise - Pages on the iPad just doesn't work like Word on a computer.

To my surprise I can't browse LG KF750 phone folder structure on my Mac (iMac Alu 3.06 GHz, 10.5.7) - I get an error that the request could not be completed ("Bad request"). I can't send files from my LG to the Mac, either - similar error on the phone screen.
I have the iMac and LG devices paired succesfully, though.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • OSX can't share files with XP partitioned volume - Boot Camp issue

Macbook partitioned into two volumes. One is OSX and the other is Win XP. When i'm running OSX, i can't drag drop any files to the XP mounted volume. How do i fix this?
I did attempt to open permissions but that did not work ... or at least it didn't work for me.
    thanks
    matt

    hi mlannoo,
did you format the windows partition as NTFS or FAT32?
the latter is the one that OSX can write to.
NTFS is read-only on the mac side.
there are 3rd party applications that can get you around this issue (IIRC one example is the SharePoints), but if you want OSX to be able to write to the windows partition w/out add'l apps, then you need that windows drive to be FAT32....
    cheers

  • Print text file with labview 2011 and windows 7

I am having some strange problem, hope someone out there knows the solution.
We have a labview program running under windows xp, the program runs some test and print label from a local label printer. Last week, I have to upgrade the computer to windows 7 and all the sudden the printer will not print any more.
The print vi is very simple. I am using the report function and I am attaching the diagram of that vi below.
If I use windows notepad to open that small text file, I can print fine. This means the printer driver itself is OK. However, if I print the same text file through Labview printing vi, from the printer's task list, I can see it does not recognize the char. From the attached png file, the top one is the task from notepad, it shows 2 pages and the bottom one is from the labview, it becomes 33 pages.
For the printer part, I use Generic / Text Only printer driver which comes from windows itself. And I am aslo attaching a sample of the text file, there are quite a lot of special char, it is for print bar code. When I tried to use labview print text vi to print general text from my computer to a regular printer, the vi works. So it seems Labview print can not handle the special char? Although it worked many years under windows XP in the past.
    Welcome to any suggestions!
    Thanks

where to check RAW or TEXT? the print report vi only asks for file name and printer name.
When I print from notepad, everything just goes by default. This is a label printer, so I never need to specify printing parameter such as size, orientation, etc in the past
Famous last words go something like this: "...never had to do that before."  Maybe you have to do that now.  It's worth at least comparing the defaults settings for bothe generic drivers.  It could save you a lot of headache if you notice something different.
