Can't share TV shows with Intel based Macs

I have an iMac G5 that I'm using as a media server. I also have a Mac Mini that's hooked up to my LCD TV. I want to use the Mac Mini to view TV shows I've downloaded through iTunes, that are on the iMac, thru Front Row. However, most of the time Front Row hangs up while attempting to load the show and then iTunes ends up freezing and needs to be force quit. This same problem also occurs on my MacBook.
All the machines on my network are connected to an Airport Express serving as a wireless router in 802.11g-only mode. The AX sits right next to the iMac and my MacMini is about 25' away in the next room. The signal is strong and I have it set to channel 9 so there's no interference from neighboring access points (verified this using MacStumbler). I also have been making sure that there's little network traffic on the network while trying to view videos thru Front Row. I just upgraded the firmware on the Airport Express and all of my Macs have all the latest updates on them.
Specifically what happens is that I can get the TV show to stream to my MacMini one time. Then I can usually get to music and music videos that are shared. However, if I try to go back to the TV show later, it'll just hang. Eventually it'll say that the video server is unable to play this file and after exiting Front Row I'll see that iTunes is frozen with the spinning beach ball... it'll stay like that for 30-60min and then finally the screen goes black. At this point, I need to hit cmd-Q to kill iTunes and restore the desktop.
Taking Front Row out of the equation, I found the same behavior just trying to view the videos through iTunes. However, if I can free the connection from the Mac Mini to the iMac (or restart iTunes), I have NO problems streaming videos to my Powerbook G4. The reverse is true too, I can easily view shared videos from my Powerbook on my iMac. I cannot, however, view shared movies from a PPC machine on an Intel machine, or Intel to PPC, or Intel to Intel. Anytime an Intel machine is involved, video streaming of TV shows thru Front Row or iTunes will not work 95% of the time.
Yes, the machines are authorized to play the content, I verified that and the fact that they will occassionally play further verifies this.
It seems this issue was less severe prior to the last set up updates for Front Row and iTunes. My MacBook, which suffers the same problem, already came with the latest Front Row and iTunes.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Holmanranch,
Do you have the Sync only checked songs and videos option ticked from under your iPod's Summary tab as well?  If so, that could be a possible cause.
One thing you could try is to remove the tick mark next to Sync TV Shows and apply the changes to remove any and all TV Shows from your iPod.  Then reapply the tick mark and again sync the changes to your iPod and see if that makes a difference.

  • Can you install snow leopard on Intel based mac with less than one GB of ra

As the subject relay I have an Intel mac mini with 750GB of ram? will th einstaller let me install Snow Leopard?

No, the installer will not let you install Snow Leopard on an Intel Mac with less than 1 GB of RAM. Even if it did, performance would be unacceptable & the OS would probably be unstable.
If you want to run Snow Leopard you will need to upgrade to at least 1 GB of installed RAM. If you want it to run efficiently, you should install more. Typically, 2 GB will get you most of the benefits of a larger memory space but if your Mac supports more & you want the best possible performance, install the maximum the Mac can handle.

  • ProTools 6 or 7 compatibility with Intel-Based macs

I've heard people saying that ProTools LE 6 does not support Intel Core 2 Duo iMacs. Is that true?

First off the question was about the LE edition not HD. Second of all the link your provide is not for a Universal edition update.
    Clearly states the following:
    * This update contains no new features from version 7.2, and will not function or install on PowerPC-based Macintosh or Windows-based computers.
The reason I sent the link is so the poster could determine specs for themselves and take appropriate action.

It's not me that's over eager to respond since the info I gave is accurate the word Universal very much applies!

  • Is firefox 5.0 compatible with non-intel based mac systems?

I downloaded 5.o previously this year & it wouldn't work because after downloading I discovered that it would only work with Intel based Mac systems. Has this changed? I don't want to go thru the download process again if it won't work.
    Thanks.

No. as of Firefox 4.0 and newer from Mozilla you need both OSX 10.5+ and Intel.
Either you can still use Firefox 3.6.18as you are using (3.6.19 will be coming in some 5 weeks) http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Or use a third party version built for the old PPC.

  • External hard-drive only for Intel-based macs?

I have an iMac G5 powerpc (without the camera). Today I bought a Western Digital: My Passport- Essential 250GB external portable hard-drive. I will be using this to back-up my iMac's hard-drive. Before I opened the packaging, I decided to see if Apple.com sold this product in their online store. They do, but one of the 'one-star' reviews posted on this product stated that "it will only work with Intel-based macs." I can't seem to find any more information about whether or not this statement is correct. I was hoping somebody could help me out and let me know the answer. If it doesn't work with the powerpc imacs, do you know of a brand or model that does? I plan on leaving it in the packaging until I know for sure just in case I need to return it to the store. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

You can order them online from [macsales.com] and have them sent to your college. You can look in Staples or go online and see if they carry LaCie - the OWC ones are only sold on macsales, as far as I know.

  • HT1557 where do i find Universal Binary Component compatible with Intel-based Macintosh that allows quicktime to show video?

where do i find the link to the Universal Binary Component compatible with Intel-based Macintosh that allows quicktime to show video?

I think your question is too vague to get an answer.
You're asking for a 'Universal Binary component' for your 'Intel-based Macintosh'. Why universal binary?
universal binaries are designed to work on both PowerPC and Intel machines. If you're using an Intel machine why do you need PowerPC support?
Also, you want something that 'allows QuickTime to show video'. Well, not to be glib, but QuickTIme does video - that's it's raison d'etre. Therefore I think your question is more about how to get QuickTime to show a specific (non-standard?) video format. Without knowing what that format is, it's impossible to answer your question directly.
That said, maybe the place to start is Apple's QuickTime Components index.

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

  • Adobe Digital Edition - Can´t be installed on Intel based Mac 1.7.2

    Hello!
I´ve bought a ebook and have to use Adobe Digital Edition. After the download of Adobe Digital Edition 1.7.2 x86 the program can´t be installed.
Directly after starting the installation the program says "The programm will only work with Intel based Macintoshees".
The problem is, I am definetily using a 15" Macbook Pro 2010 with Intel and this problem occurs.
I am also sure, I have downloaded the correct version.
I could not even download the ADE on the adobe page because my system doesn´t fulfil the requirements which could not be.
Is there an official problem with the current version or anybody who could send me an older version?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Henning

10.6.8 is Snow Leopard, not Lion.
    10.5 = Leopard
    10.6 = Snow Leopard
    10.7 = Lion
    10.8 = Mountain Lion

  • Webpage renders differently with PowerPC Mac compared to Intel-based Mac

While I am aware that http://www.medica.com is optimized for Internet Explorer [yuk! =) ], PowerPC-based Macs are able to fully render it.
Safari, Firefox, Camino, running on PowerPC work just fine.
Safari, Firefox, Camino, on Intel-based Mac does not render correctly.
    Is this a known issue?
    Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

You cannot "force" a PPC application to open in Rosetta. It does so automatically. Only universal binary applications can be "forced" to open in Rosetta.
The problem you're having is more likely due to an inherent incompatibility of the software to run correctly on an Intel Mac and Intel version of OS X. This cannot be fixed without the developer updating the software. I don't think this will happen very soon given the EMC hasn't been putting much effort into updating Retrospect in a timely fashion. Were I you I would look for an alternative to NetWorker that is compatible with Intel Macs.
Unfortunately, I don't have any specific suggestions for the same type of software. Retrospect is available in server-client versions but it is a PPC only application. It does, however, work on Intel Macs.

  • Can you restore Time Machine to any Intel based Mac?

I have a bet with a friend on this one.
If you have a full Time Machine backup of your Intel based Mac and your Mac breaks down, can you use your Time Machine to restore the full system to any other Intel based Mac? Or is your Time Machine backup specific to the computer model you were using?
Similarly, if you are running your Intel based Mac off of an external drive (like a portable USB drive), can you carry that drive with you and boot any other Intel based Mac off of it, so you can, for example, use the same system at work and at home?
    Thanks,

The backup is specific to one particular computer, not just a computer of the same model. You can use Migration Assistant on a different computer to get all your user accounts and data onto another computer if that computer already has OSX installed.
Similarly, if you are running your Intel based Mac off of an external drive (like a portable USB drive), can you carry that drive with you and boot any other Intel based Mac off of it, so you can, for example, use the same system at work and at home?
Not always. It won't work on a Mac that shipped with an OSX more recent than that on the USB drive. Also there are some OSX updates that install only on certain hardware, so you my want to run Softwae Update when you move the USB drive to a different Mac.

  • Intel based Mac can't see airport exteme

My new intel based mac and airport had been working fine. Then last week it lost communication with base station. Now it will work using only Apple default setup and my Mac cannot configure base station through base station utility. It does not see the base station. I can connect to it only through the defaut Apple network, I have no control over naming, security, signal or any other options available through the setup assistant.
What gives? How do I gain control of this device again?
    Intel I-Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Try Connecting the Intel based MAC hardwired directly to the base sation, then disconnect it and returnt he base station to the way you had it and see if the Intle Based MAC then sees the base station.
    Just a guess.

  • You can't open Sharing preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.

  • Error "You can't open... ...on an Intel-based Mac."

    Hi.
On the System Preferences app. When I try to open Mail, Contacts & Calendars (preference pane), it gives me the following error:
    "Preferences Error
You can’t open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I already re-installed OSX Mountain Lion, and it didn't fix anything.
I noticed however, that the actual preferences file: InternetAccounts.prefPane has different permissions than the rest of the .prefPane files.
    - All other .prefPane files have "System" as the first user, however, my InternetAccounts.prefPane file has "Me" (myself) as the main user, and not the System user.
    Question:
    A. Does someone have a solution for the problem in general?
    B. Can someone check their InternetAccounts.prefPane file and let me know the preferences. The file is located at: System/Library/PreferencePanes/InternetAccounts.prefPane
    C. If, your InternetAccounts.prefPane file has System as the first, or any user, can someone let me know how to set System as a user? Hopefull this will fix the problem.
    Thanks to anyone trying.

  • Can I share my iCloud with my family in another state?

Can I share my ICloud with a family member in another state?

What do you want to share with the family member?  If each of you have their own iCloud accounts you can create private Photos Streams that only they can view.  If it's a calandar then you can create a shared calendar between the two of you.
However, as randers4 has warned, if you give them your iCloud ID and password they can get your email, contacts and everything else shareable with iCloud.
