Can't shorten video's in quicktime

Hello everyone,
Im trying to shorten my video in the new quicktime by pressing the button shorten, then i can shorten the video but i cant save it because the movie contains an incorrect time value.
Please help me.

QT does not play DVD movies natively. Apple does sell a mpeg2playbackcomponent that plays some DVDs but it has a number of limitations, including that it will not play mpeg-2 in transport stream format. It also will not play encrypted commercial DVD movies or sound that is in AC3 format. It does not export sound from mpeg2. Read the FAQ for the component here:

  • How can I preview video files in quicktime

How can I preview video files in quicktime by click on the space bar like i use to with leopard?
I like to pull up all of my video files and arrowing down and hitting the space bar and previewing them.
I cannot do that with all of my video files just some of the video files are able to be previewed.
Some of the files show a thumb of the video and some just show the quicktime logo are other logos
I am running the latest Lion
    Thanks.

You need to investigate BLOB = Binary Large Objects.
Start with Google where you will find plenty of info to start with.
Next time, you'd better mentioned the OS and Oracle version (4 digits) that you are using.

  • I can't view video thumbnails for Quicktime Movies?

I noticed on my Macbook that when I mouse over a Quicktime video file, a play icon appears and I can play the video directly from the thumbnail without having to open up Quicktime Player.  This works both on the desktop and in Finder.  On my iMac, this is not possible.  I've looked through the view options, and I have show icon preview selected.  Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Fixed it! Turned out I just needed to enlarge the icon size in view options.  If the icons are too small, then playing thumbnail videos is not possible.

  • Can't shorten video length to match storyline

Having added syncronised clips (multi video and separate audio) of a live music performance into the storyline, I've edited as desired to select performance of a single song.
Despite trimming to have a video that lasts 3min 30s, the total video length is still showing as 1hr 5mins (full length of the syncronised clip).
This is preventing exporting to Youtube amoungst other things.
How can I set the end/length of the video to match the end of the storyline?

Thanks - I did wonder about a gap clip at the end but there is nothing there.
As an update - I've managed to resolve this now by creating a new project and adding the sync'd clip (which has all my edits in).
I'm not 100% sure what I did differently, but it's worked this time.
Next step is to see if I can extract a separate section (different song) of the sync's clip into a different project.

  • How to save an iTunes purchased video as a Quicktime file?

    Hi,
How do I save an iTunes purchased video (which is an .m4v file) as a Quicktime file?
    Thank you!
    C

Thanks for this. I see how I can play the video as a Quicktime, but I wanted to save it so I can import it to iMovie... I can't import a .m4v in iMovie, only Quicktime. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • How can i shorten a video file.

Newby to Mac(pro osx 10.9), taking baby steps. I have some videos I want to shorten. Something not to complicated. I wanted to download perian so I can use in conjunction with quicktime but I saw that it was no longer going to be available. What options do I have left. Thanks guys.

Well, there is iMovie which should have been included with your Mac - it's a movie editor and reasonably easy to use. Then there is the free MPEG Streamclip which is a free video format converter, but you can also shorten a video with it (read the notes regarding the MPEG2 Playback Component on their website). So those are two free choices; Final Cut Pro has quite a learning curve - I'd suggest that if you're quite comfortable editing video.

  • How can I convert video in a WMA format to play in QuickTime Pro?

I have installed my QuickTime Pro, but cannot play any of my videos that I already have stored on my computer. They are all in the WMA format. Is there anyway I can convert these files to play in Quicktime Pro? I also cannot figure out how to download a video from my digital video camera into QuickTime Pro. Can you help me with this? Additionally, I cannot figure out how to download from my digital camera into QuickTime Pro. All of these functions I would like to do, are so I can take these videos & pictures and download them to my IPOD. HELP - thanks Mike Mirsch

    Hi again Mirsch,
I have Mac OS X and I have Quicktime 7.1 Pro.
I know that you can record a movie by making a new movie recording. Use the fire-wire connection to do this and have you camera in playback or deck mode. This is probably not the best way to import video to your pc. I say this because it might not be a lossless ingest of video (depending on your quicktime preferences>recording settings.
Try saving your dv video onto your pc using a program like premier (i use iMovie and Final Cut Express).
    Good luck,

  • Hi, my mac has stopped playing some avi files (that used to work). I can see the video. Does anyone know why and what i can do? My version of quicktime is 7.6.9.

Hi i have avi files saved in iphoto that i used to be able to play through quicktime. However in the last few weeks i cannot play many of these files. I can see the videos and click on them but nothing happens (i have version 7.6.9 of quicktime). Does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do about this?
    Thanks.

What do you mean by what audio/video formats are involved? These are all files from several digital cameras.
As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted.

In what file type and compression format did you download the YouTube content? I.e., to avoid such issues, you would normally download the source files as content that is natively compatible with your target player or convert incompatible file type/compression format combinations to files that are compatible with your targeted media player.

  • I took some videos using my iPhone 5c and uploaded them to my computer.  I can play the videos in iPhoto, but when I open them in QuickTime, they are dark and silent.  Why can't I see them in QuickTime?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

    Thank you Benjt and Sue:
I have first chosen to followed Sue's suggestion concerning the firewire connections since that looked to be the one most easily done quickly. I therefore had to make more room on the hard drive in my MacBook Pro since the drive is only 100 GB. I normally use an external 400GB drive to hold my video files since one of the plays last May required about 200GB! However, the play this time was a short one and not really High Density anyway like the one was in May with a much finer camera. I have been connecting the external HD via Firewire800.
I simply moved a number of files from my MacBook Pro drive and put them in the external HD as well as another HD and then disconnected the external HD from my MacBook. I was, indeed, able to import the entire tape in one shot into iMovie. iMovie is still not working right since I found that I had to click "import" in iMovie to start collecting a clip and then hit "play" on my camcorder to actually import the tape contents into the clip. I found the whole play, just 50 min this time, in that clip when we returned home this evening.
I can now get the editing done one their last play for the kids and have DVDs for them when I go back up to Gainesville to record their current play on Thursday evening.
I will then devote some time to trying to solve the rest of the problem, looking into Benjt's suggestions.
Thanks very much for your very timely critical and positive help this afternoon. For your information, I also have been working on learning Final Cut Express but as I tried to put all of my reading into practice, I now I can't even get FCE to open - but that's another story and a very different problem.
    Thanks again.

  • Can't Export from FCE to QuickTime Movie w/o recompression

I have problems with choosing the correct settings for export of a FCE video clip to QuickTime Movie. I want the best possible quality (without recompression).
    In the manual it says:
"Exporting a Self-Contained Movie Without Recompressing the Media
If you choose to export a self-contained movie, you have the option to not recompress the media in your clip or sequence. If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Express simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression."
I can't find that option in FCE 4.01 - is it a mistake in the manual? My source media was captured from miniDV tape and the captured media file has the following formate:
Codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Color profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Total bit rate: 29,794
My exported file has this format:
    Dimensions: 720 x 480
    Codec: Linear PCM, H.264
    Color Profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total bit rate: 2,151
I have seen this question in the FCE archive and people simply say there is no recompression in FCE Export to QT Movie, but clearly there is since I see the H.264 codec listed in my output file and the bit-rate is a about 1/14th the rate of the original source material. The output file size is also much smaller. What gives. How can I get an unrecompressed file out of FCE so I can send it to a coworker for futher editing with his FCE.

Does anyone else have anything to add to this thread. I'm, sure I'm using Export to QuickTime Movie and not using QuickTime Conversion and from the file specifications I've given above, it is clear that a 14:1 compression took place.

    Double check:
There are only three options in the QuickTime Movie export window.
    1. Include: The Audio and Video, Audio Only or Video Only.
    2. Markers: Select whateve you want or don't want.
    3. The Make Movie Self-Contained selection check box.
    Is this what  you see?
The export will mirror the Sequence or selected part of the Sequence.

  • Can't get video chat to work outside of LAN...

    Hello,
I can't get video chat to work.
All computers, LAN and WAN are running the latest iChat under 10.4 (including latest updates).
Within our LAN, via Bonjour, everything is fine.
I'm now trying to set up an offsite Intel iMac (10.4) and I can't connect via video chat with them.
I've had this problem in the past and eventually gave up (so much for "it just works" - I've spent the last 10+ years dealing with Macs and Mac-based networking, I can't imagine "my dad" figuring this all out). Trying again with fingers crossed...?
If someone could help, it'd be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kristin.
The studio router/firewall is a SonicWall TZ 170 Standard.
This router has a static IP.
All suggested ports on the SonicWall are set up correctly to allow in/out from our LAN.
All computers on the LAN have static IP addresses.
Quicktime streaming settings set as suggested.
OS X Firewall on all computers = OFF.
No iChat add-ons on any computers.
    Internet connection speed = 7404 kb/s
    The offside router/firewall is a LinkSys WRT54G
This router does not have a static IP.

    No iChat add-ons on computer.
    Internet connection speed = 5116 kb/s
If any more information is required to help you help me, just let me know!

Does the TZ170 have UPnP or Port Triggering then ?
I can not see that it does here
Opening the ports in the manner listed on that link will only allow one computer (IP) to use the open ports.
The Linksys is router and you have not mentioned what the modem is doing at that end.
Why not use UPnP here ? The Linksys does it (on the Administration page)
Most likely this needs the Respond to Anonymous Pings checked on the Security page.
