Can't shut down my macbook pro?

Everytime I try to shut down my macbook, it just restarts itself. If I hold down the power button it will shut down but I don't think this is right, anyone got any suggestions/similar experience?

Weird.  If this were happening to me, I would check/reset the Energy Saver preferences having to do with startup scheduling and or automatic restart. I would also consider deleting associated preference files in /Library/Preferences. I would also try resetting the System Management Controller and/or resetting NVRAM and PRAM.

    Yea,
I bought an original CRT iMac  two day's before  they were launched, which got the reseller into trouble, and had it replaced by APPLE.
This was a great learning process for me dealing with the glitches. :-)
I LOVE MAC. Now own 4 and on my 10th. in 15 years + 7  bought for family.

  • Mail won't close, can't shut down my MacBook Pro

    Dear Apple Community,
since 10.7.4 Mail won't close sometimes. I use mail sometimes in Full-Screen, sometimes in the standard mode. If I'm finished with Mail, I close mail using "cmd+w" & "cmd+Q" or "cmd+Q". The programm is closed (window is gone), but the little blue bubble stays under the Mail icon at the dock. If I want to shut down my MacBook Pro (early 2011) I get the message "Can't shut down. You have to end Mail."
This *****. Any suggestions for a fix?

I had this issue and got frustrated having to force quit all the time.
I usually quit all programs with shortcut keys.
MAIL now quits everytime if I just click Mail-Quit Mail
Don't use shortcuts to quit it and it will be fine

  • Why is it that after using I-Tunes then closing it I can't shut down my MacBook Pro

If I open I-Tunes then close it the next time I go to shut down my MacBook Pro it just sits there with a gray screen and a spinging wheel all night  It does'nt do that with any other app's

    PLEASE HELP ME...
    Thank you in advance.

How exactly did you shut down your laptop? Not a hard restart (holding down the power button), I hope... if that's the case, then it is extremely unlikely the file is still intact on your computer. If it is, it would be an image on your RAM, and it is time-and-resource-intensive to recover it if it is even there. RAM memory is disposable and always being written over. Sorry dude...
If it wasn't a hard restart, Keynote should have made a backup, unless you 'Force Close'd it.
It really all depends on how your mac was shut down.

  • Can I shut down my Macbook during the setup screen

Can I shut down my Macbook May 2010 during the setup screen (The Snow Lepoard SetUp Screen)
Because I don't want to set it up due to selling it.
    Thanks

Of course. If you didn't set up the MacBook Pro yet, simply hold the Power button to turn it off and sell the MacBook Pro. Remember to give the DVDs that came with your MacBook to the new owner. Tell the new owner to install iLife from the Applications disc

  • I have trouble shutting down my MacBook Pro using the normal way.

I have trouble shutting down my MacBook Pro, operating Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I click on the "Shut Down" button from the Apple Menu, the screen fades to blue and I get a scrolling wheel; this lasts up to more than two hours and I still don't get any result, so I end up holding down the Power Button until it turns off. Can somebody help me, please?

Make sure you quit all your applications before shutting down.
    And try resetting the SMC.

  • I shut down my macbook pro and now I started up and it started in the safe mode

I shut down my MacBook Pro yesterday and when I started up today, it keeps starting up in safe mode, what do I need to do?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Does your Mac start properly in safe mode? If so, try resetting the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 This will reset the "boot args", so OS X should start into safe mode. Also, you should verify that the storage of the computer is OK, so open Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar and verify the drive. If there's a problem, start in OS X Recovery (holding Command and R keys while your Mac is starting) and repair it

  • I am trying to shut down my MacBook Pro but mail is preventing it from shutting down and it will not allow me to quit mail

Does anyone know of a way to force quit Mail.  It is preventing me from restarting or shutting down my MacBook Pro running Maverick iOS 10.9.
    Thanks.

    itsKeef,
You're having the same problem? Do you ALWAYS have to Force Quit Mail or will it sometimes just Quite when you select Quit? Which model MacBook Pro do you have (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011"), which version of OS X are you running and which version of Mail do you have?

  • HELP! I shut down my macbook pro and now after applications have been in full screen mode for awhile they automatically minimize and it takes me back to the desktop. How do I fix this?

I shut down my macbook and now while applications such as safari have been open for awhile, even while active, will automatically minimize and it take me back to the desktop.  How do I fix this?

I should add that this has happened before and I feel like it was a quick un-toggling of a box in my settings, but I can not remember what to do.

  • My ical won't stop upgrading, I can't shut down my macbook

when I click ical, it just started to upgrade by itself and it wont stop upgrading, and I cant quit the app neither shut down the macbook.

    Jen,
First of all from the  Menu select "Force Quit..." and choose iCal.
Then try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find the Preferences folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

I bought a 2011 macbook pro after clean it up and reinstal Mountain lion, i did an update since then, whe i start up and shut down the computer gets a spinnin wheel which takes forever. I have read about this problem but i'm new at mac, and seem to be kind of complicated repair it. I'm wonder if anyone knows if apple is doing something to fix this? macbooks arent chip and i shouldnt go thru all the the time consuming to get it works how sopose to.
if some one knows anything or if there is anybody who can guide me step by step on how to fix this, i really will apreciate that.
    thank you.

    As cbs20 says...
Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
    Restore from TM backup
    Reinstall Mac OS X
    Get help online
    Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings.
