Make sure to quit all open applications before shutting down your Mac.
An app is running if you see a reflection just under the app icon in the Dock.
You can force quit apps if necessary.
Click Force Quit from your Apple menu.

  • How can I shut my Mac down when it always reboots?

    I am unable to shut down. I use the "Shut Down..." button, of course, but it's as if Im hitting "Restart...".
    The Mac just... restarts! I've run Tech Tool 4 on it with no luck. REAL "Restart..." doesn't help. I've never written an Applescript, but I COULD do that, but don't really want to. Wazzup? How do I fix This?
    Thanks!

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

    when i was in safari one page opened and its said that my web reader is locked and i can't even shut my mac down, what should i do?

    This is the Firefox Start Page that was used in Firefox 3.6 and prior versions. <br />
    http://www.google.com/firefox
    The '''about:home''' default homepage looks a lot like that older default homepage, but it is missing the Google menu items at the top left-side of the web page, along with the '''''Sign In''''' hyperlink for signing into Google services and the '''''Options''''' "gear button" for setting Google search preferences.
    If you want the orange Firefox button to show, instead of the Menu Bar showing, you need to hide the Menu Bar by right-clicking a blank spot on the Menu Bar and de-selecting the Menu Bar by clicking on Menu Bar in that contextual menu.

    AFAIK cameras offer their own built-in format utility for inserted SD cards.  You should use that.  Otherwise, refer to the manual that came with your camera to determine precisely how your SD cards need to be formatted to work properly.  Personally, I'd suggest Partition Scheme: MBR, and Filesystem: FAT32.
    Try to limit the number of formats you perform on the SD cards, though, as you're reducing their lifespan.  I believe formatting causes re-writes to a portion of the SD card that has fewer read/write cycles than the rest of the card as a whole.

    My daughter reset her Mac book Pro to the factory settings by her doing this did we loose all the pictures and stuff that was on the computer before

    If by resetting to factory settings you mean she erased the drive and reinstalled the operating system, OS X, then yes all data thatwas on it is gone. That is why apple included time machine so you can make backups of your data.

    You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
    Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.

  • How to create custom search box will allow up to 60 alphanumericcharacters & User can input a minimum of 1 character and the system will pull back an exact match on the sequence entered.

    Hi,
    Can anyone please help me in creating the Custom Search box with below mentioned functionality
    "The search box will allow up to 60 alphanumeric characters.User can input a minimum of 1 character and the system will pull back an exact match on the sequence entered"

    Hi Pradeep,
    Find the complete JQuery AutoComplete function with along with different events in it like focus, select, open and close. You can modify this code as per your requirement.
    $("#ddlSearchTextBox").autocomplete({
    source: function (request, response) {
    var getUrl = "<site URL>";
    $.ajax({
    url: getUrl,
    type: "GET",
    contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
    dataType: "json",
    data: {
    featureClass: "P",
    style: "full",
    maxRows: 10
    dataFilter: function (data, type) {
    return data.replace(/\\'/g, "'");
    success: function (data) {
    response($.map(data.d, function (result) {
    return {
    label: result.Last_Name + ", " + result.First_Name,
    value: result.id
    focus: function (event, ui) {
    $("#ddlSearchTextBox").val(ui.item.label);
    return false;
    minLength: 1,
    select: function (event, ui) {
    $("#ddlSearchTextBox").val(ui.item.label);
    return false;
    open: function () {
    $("#ddlSearchTextBox").removeClass("ui-corner-all").addClass("ui-corner-top");
    close: function () {
    $("#ddlSearchTextBox").removeClass("ui-corner-top").addClass("ui-corner-all");
    Let us know if you need any further.

  • Isn't there supposed to be something to shut your Mac down when the temperature gets too high like there is in Windows bios?

    A program hung up and the temperature reached 192° F before I shut the Mac laptop off.
    Why did this SMC Fan Control program  or my Mac let the temperature get that high?  If it wasn’t for SMC I would never known the temperature got that high.
    Isn’t there supposed to be something that shuts  The Mac down around 160° F ?
    What  I need it to do so that my Mac does not become a doorstop, is to have it force quit all programs at 160°F.
    I could create a macro and do it myself if I can import the temperature to the clipboard and write a script that says if temperature equals 160°F force quit and then list all the programs I wanted it to force quit.
    This could be easily done with Keyboard Mastro  By getting the temperature from SMC fan control.
    It would be nice to be able to choose which programs you wanted to force quit. Dragon Dictate locks up and raises the temperature, When the temperature gets 160 I would like Program to be forced to quit.
    I don’t want to force quit pages or text editor that I might be working on that I might lose information. But to force quit all other programs like Safari, mail or iTunes, is not going to cause me to lose information as the information will still be on the mail servers and on the web.
    Can someone please write a program for me?
    I hope Apple is listening  may be they can make that an option in their next version it should be simple to do.
    I don’t mean to copy Windows Ideas, but This would be better than Windows, to actually  force quit the programs causing the high temperature rather than shutting the whole machine off causing you to lose information.

    It can burn your lap also Some people have gotten burns.
    MBP is a Notebook.  It is not a laptop & should not be used as such.
    User Tip:  How to deal with MacBook Pro and MacBook heat
    According to the user manual it states in part:
    "Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings."
    MacBook Pro: Care, Use, and Safety Information
    "Do not place your MacBook Pro on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn."

  • Can't shut my ipod down

    the ipod was connected to the computer when it shut down. Now the "do not disconnect" sign is showing constantly. I can't reset the ipod. Don't know what else to do. Can't get anything to work.
    I have the latest ipod. It is 30 gb.

    I am having the same issue guys What's up with this. I tried to powerdown my ipod this morning and when I hold the play/pause button nothing happens. I can still play and stop songs, video etc. but the play/pause will no longer turn my ipod off. I ever rolled back an update to see if that could be the issues (Oct 10) and still no dice. If anyone has any suggestions I too would be much appreciative.
