Can't sign document

Provider type does not match registered value error 2148073499

Could you, please, be much more verbose? Which product/version, which platform/OS, what kind of signature (digital/electronic)? If digital signature do you have a software (file) Digital ID or a smart card? If the latter, which type, which manufacturer, how it was installed? Do you use standard Acrobat security handler or a 3rd-party security handler? "Default Signing Method" in the "Creation and Appearances Preference" dialog will give you this info. Please, include it in your reply.
A snapshot of the dialog that you get will be useful. It is not clear to me whether the error dialog you get comes from Acrobat/Reader or additional software that you have installed.
Please, give as much info as you can so that we do not go around clarifying what you are doing.

  • Can't sign documents

via Adobe Reader 11:0:10; can't sign documents; keeps saying "HFT ERROR, the document could not be signed; this file is already open or in use by another application".  have tried this from multiple computers & have added digital IDs.  the first of two signatures was successful.

    Hi dropboxprobs,
I suppose you are signing the document on a shared network or something.
Please try saving the document to your system local drive and then try to sign.
Let me know if it helps.

  • How can I sign documents digitally (using a certificate)

On the windows platform, there is a lot available to digitally sign documents (using password protected certificates that have the same value as a real signature).
What alternatives are there on the Mac platform to sign office documents, spreadsheets, pdf's etc...?
Don't tell me the preview annotate add signature feature ( = useless) ... that has nothing to do with a legal signature as the document can be modified without the signature becoming invalid.
MS office for Mac does not seem to support creating or testing the signatures created on windows.

I wonder if you've tried the various possibilities of MS Office for Mac.  I have no idea which, if any, of these might or might not support what you're trying to do.
MS Office for Mac 2011 (latest official version)
MS Office 365 (works on Mac or Windows)
MS Office for Mac 2016 (Beta version available now)

  • Help!! I can't sign documents all of a sudden!?

I have had this happen on my old laptop all of a sudden as well. I wanna go ahead and insert my signature as usual and all of a sudden I can't even check the option. I can't open any attachements either. I certainly don't want to buy a new laptop again.
    HELP Please?
I have reinstalled the Adobe Reader and even tried going for Acrobat Pro and I am still having the same issue.

    Hi olgak70056200,
Could you please let me know what version of Adobe Acrobat/Reader are you using.
If possible, could you please translate this error message in English so that we can analyze it at our end.
    Hope to get your response.

  • Adobe Reader XI- Trouble with signing documents

I can't sign documents with Adobe Reader XI. I have registered for Echosign (unwillingly) and also created an identity. The signature field is grayed out. I have tried several different documents. Some documents un-gray the signature option, but it does nothing when I click it. Please advise.

I had the same problem , but in my case it was caused by the document properties would prevent unsigned signature fields from being signed.

  • Can't sign PDF documents.

Can't sign PDF documents. After pressing the Accept button, no preview of my signature, and the screen reverts to the document.

Is the camera working in other applications, such as Photo Booth? Does the green light come on in Preview?

  • When saving a signed document can the -signed appellation be turned off?

When you go to save a document which you have digitally signed, the program automatically appends '-signed' to the end of the file name. This is not ideal for my purposes - is there any way to turn this function off? Also it it possible to turn off the prompt that asks me if I'd like to email the signed document? I've gone through every screen in preferences but I can't seem to find anything for this. I'm using Adobe Reader XI 11.0.5.
    Thank in advance!

Not that I know of. Reader and Acrobat want you to have a new copy of the signed document and an original copy of the unsigned version, hence the behavior you do not want. You can always do a save change the name of the signed document to the original name if you desire.

  • Can't sign an .PDF document

Hello everybody! I have a problem regarding a digital signature!
A month ago I bought an Oberthur token to sign some documents. I followed the guide and tryied to import the device in Mozilla Firefox. After a few atempts I have abandoned the idea and (also following the guide) I managed to import it in Explorer (the guide proved flawless). I have signed one document and all was ok.
Yesterday I tryied to msign another document, but when I click the signature field I get the tab: Add digital ID. When I chose the "A device connected to this computer" option I got this message: "Acrobat could not find any new digital IDs..."!
I have unistalled both Mozilla Firefox and Adobe Reader X and reinstalled them. I have managed to import the signature device in Mozilla, but I can't still sign documents!
What is there to be done?

I am not familiar with the Oberthur solution, but it sounds like from your description that it is a digital certificate stored on a hardware device.  If this is the case, Reader must be configured to access this device via a PKCS11 interface (driver, typically a DLL file).
To access the security settings dialog in Reader where this configuration musrt be completed, select Edit > Protection > Security Settings...
    Select "PKCS#11 Modules and Tokens"
You will then get a security warning...
Select "Always open with Protected Mode disabled", click OK
Click the "Attach Module" button to install the driver.
    This should resolve your issue.
If you are using a "soft cert" (a digital certificate in file format such as PFX or P12) then you can ignore the PKCS#11 settings, and select the "Digital ID Files" option and click "Attach File"
    Hope this helps.

  • Can no longer digitally sign documents

We have been using Active Directory based cetificates to digitally sign adobe pdfs for years.  All of sudden after some recent updates we can no longer sign documents.  When you click on a signature field and click "sign" on the pop up box, nothing happens (no error, no nothing) and pop up box stays there.  I have checked and the certifcate is still valid and trusted.  Everything seems to be valid.  This is happening with clients that have Adobe x and Adobe 9 Reader.  I tried to go back in to Adobe Professional 9.5 and certify the document but the same thing happens there!  I simply can not sign anything.  I have confirmed that this is an issue on other computers in our domain as well.  Without an error or something else to go on, I am at a loss on how to troubleshoot.  Our certificate authority is a 2008 R2 box and the clients are Windows 7.

Support information has a value as long as the product is supported. I believe Adobe ended Acrobat 9 support about a year ago. Even if there is a problem in the product (and the support information usually indicates a problem in the product) it will not be fixed since the support for this product has ended. Upgrade to Acrobat XI, it is so much better for digital signing than 9.

  • Cannot sign documents with Adobe Reader 10.1.3 - 10.1.10, Can sign document with 10.1.2 and 11.0.07

Cannot sign documents with Adobe Reader 10.1.3 - 10.1.10, Can sign document with 10.1.2 and 11.0.07
In my environment, we have 10.1.2 that's currently packaged. Our CIO was able to sign documents via signature with no problem. Later he got updated to 10.1.9, no longer can sign.
During testing I was able to confirm that 10.1.2 signed without problems, but anything that, it goes kaput, the Sign and options are not listed.
Latest Adobe Reader can sign... any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem.  What I'm trying to do is print a Microsoft Word 2010 document with paper size A4 to Adobe pdf document paper size A4.  I select "A4" for paper size in word and then print using Adobe print standard settings.  What I get is an Adobe document in 8.5 x 11.  This is an issue because these are patent documents for electronic filing in WIPO and they must be in A4 size.
If I select other sizes in Word, such as A3, Tabloid, and Legal, the Adobe file is in the same paper size.
If I print a Powerpoint document in A4 to Adobe, the Adobe file page size is A4.
If I print an Adobe file in 8.5 x11 to Adobe A4, the second Adobe file is in A4.
    Any help?

  • Installed both 10.1.4 and 11.0.08 updates this week and now I can't use the Digital "Sign" document feature.  It's been completely removed.  Need it back. Please help..

I installed both 10.1.4 and 11.0.08 updates this week and now I can't use the Digital "Sign" document feature.  It's been completely removed.  Need it back. Please help..  Can't sign or add text to any pdf document. Even when security properties allow it.

I would remove Reader and repair or reinstall Acrobat.
Having different major versions can cause some users issues. Reader is not necessary if one has Acrobat installed. Even though Adobe has improved the capability of having both Reader and Acrobat with the same major version level there are still user configurations that have problems with this setup.
