Can't sign in on external monitor with MBP after Yosemite upgrade

After Yosemite upgrade, when I turn on my MBP, I can't sign in using external monitor with MBP, always could before Yosemite.  Blurred image of my wallpaper shows on monitor, can move arrow on external screen but sign-in only shows up on my computer screen, with no arrow.  Since there is no arrow on the computer screen, and no sign in box on the external monitor, I have to unplug the external video to sign in on the computer, then plug in the monitor again.  Any ideas?

NOWEK,
Thanks for this suggestion, but so far no joy. I have zapped the PRAM, jammed the Frabitz and smashed the Gafrogsnicker, all to no avail. When the MBP restarts I get a blurred image (extreme "vibrancy") on the external monitor, but no images of the login accounts to choose from or the other options. However, on the MBP screen I get all that. The keyboard and mouse respond, but just doesn't display on the external monitor. This is of interest to me because I have the MBP down in a credenza with other related gear and the external monitor and keyboard up on my desk. It's true I don't have to do this often, but still, it just started this aggravation with Yosemite. Thanks for trying to help.

  • External monitor with MBP. Non Apple monitor

Am about to purchase a new MBP and I believe I will be able to get a new Dell 24" monitor.
question, I have read that many monitors periodically require Firmware upgrade to work at their best.
For instance, there is a new update for the line of Dell monitors in which I am interested,. However, the firmware update (software) is only available in a ".exe" version which is Windows software,.
How do Mac folks upgrade their non -Apple monitors? I know plenty of y'all use third party monitors.
any tips on installing/using a third party monitor with MacBookPro will be will be appreciated, as well.

your reply is very reassuring- I am going to purchase an external monitor for both my new MBPro and the current Macbook which I own.
Lots of posts here assure me that using third party monitors can be done without too much hassled. (I just can't afford the Apple monitors otherwise would purchase)
My concern came from stuff I have read (CNET) and In Dell forums where Dell concedes that the line of monitors I am considering DO have some difficulty with "banding" (Dell was getting numerous troubleshooting calls and exchanging monitors).Apparently the new Firmware, just published, fixes the problem.
I guess I can run the firmware once I have Windows running (Parallels) in my new MacBookPro. And maybe companies will start releasing their software in Mac-usable format now that so many more Macs (especially laptops) are being sold.

  • External Monitors with MBP

    Hi.
Is it possible to connect two external monitors to the Macbook Pro at all?
    Thanks
    Chris

Mirroring is not possible, even with the matrox adapter (and others like it). It will only turn your two displays into one "big" display.
However, Display port supports daisy chaining monitors. Unfortunately, OSX does not as of right now. Perhaps in the future it will.

  • External monitor not working after ML upgrade

I have a late 2008 Unibody Macbook and normally use it in clamshell mode with a Samsung 2043NW monitor if I'm in the office. Previously working fine in 10.5.8 through mini display port adapter. Upgraded via fresh install of 10.6.8 to ML, and the monitor flickered on occasionally but otherwise would not work - when it did display it showed the same resolution as the macbook screen i.e. 1280 X 800 instead of 1680 X 1050.
There's a thread here related to this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2387462?start=15&tstart=0  but this software was not the answer. I can now view the screen, but it is still being sent a resolution of 1280X800, rather than 1680X1050 (i.e. a fuzzy mess). It also will not work in clamshell mode at all, and just goes to sleep when the case is shut.
Anyone have a solution for this, or have I been 'obsolesced'? Does anyone have a unibody Macbook that DOES work with an external monitor?

OK, now here's an interesting thing - the macbook has begun to work in clamshell mode. This is REALLY weird. Tried again this morning in the hope of getting back the monitor control icon in the toolbar and it booted straight into clamshell mode with the lid shut.
When I first had this running 10.5 it would only work in clamshell mode if you pressed the power button and immediately closed the lid before the screen lit up grey. More recently it has been perfectly happy to enter clamshell mode after a period of use normally, just plugging in the monitor and shutting the lid. It would be nice if this behaviour were to start again soon.

  • IMac external monitor not working after lion upgrade

    Hi,
I have had an external monitor hooked up to my 09' imac for over a year now. I upgraded to Lion and ever since then it hasnt worked but one other random time when I moved and hooked everything back up. Im very tech savy, but this just doesnt make sense. Have combed google to find a solution. I have a Samsung 22in moniter and all the blue power button does is blinks at me. I am using a miniDisplay to DVI connection.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than resetting the ram?

I guess it's possible you've got some kind of hardware problem.... but not likley given it started with you installed your OS.
Here's a few things to try:
    1. see if you can borrow another monitor just to be sure your monitor isn't the problem.
    2. in System Prefs, and the Displays pane, click on the Detect Displays, then then the Gather Displays. If you get two diffenet display panes, that would lead me to think it's a monitor problem.
    3. Lastly, disconnect your 2nd display, and restart. Then Shutdown, reconnect it, and see if that helps.
    and of course..
    4. make sure that all of your connections and adaptors are tight.

I just upgraded to Mavericks and my USB external monitor & VGA external monitor is not being recognized.

I just upgraded to Mac 10.9.
My Sony KLV-32S300A LCD HDMI TV is no longer recognized as external display (neither in mirror nor in 2nd window mode).
External display used to work flawlessly under Mac 10.8.5.

So far I have found no workarounds.

  • Problems with Calendar after Yosemite upgrade

I upgraded my macbook pro to Yosemite today, and I also upgraded my phone and ipad to IOS8.   Everything seemed fine afterwards except the Calendar.   My iCloud calendars aren't visible, and when I click the warning sign next to the account name, it says:
The server at cal.me.com is currently unable to handle the connection for account “*********@me.com” due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. If this continues you should contact the server administrator.
You may try to connect to the server again.
I can see the calendars on iCloud on a web browser, so the information is safe.  The account name ends in me.com, but I assume that the MobileMe account just became a normal iCloud account so that shouldn't be a problem.  If I look at deleting the iCloud account from the laptop (in order to reinstate it fresh), it says that this will delete all iCloud content from my computer, which sounds a bit drastic.  So I left the account alone.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Advice much appreciated!

I am a Cisco network support engineer, I have a recommendation, before you  upgrade any device in the future. Always keep in mind to make a backup of your data, in this way if you have to reset the device to factory settings you will not lose that information. Having said that, reset the router to the fabric configuration using the back little button, remember when you do that, you are going to loose your current configuration.
Also here I leave a link for you to download the firmware rescue utility for your router:

How do i run an external monitor with my macbook and change settings so that when i close the lid the signal to the monitor is not lost and i can continue using the mac with a mouse and a wireless keyboard?

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

  • I have connected my new Macbook Air to my existing Samsung large external monitor with a VGA adaptor but I can't get the full mac desktop to display. No icons but then websites are coming up. Help!

I have connected my new Macbook Air to my existing Samsung large external monitor with a VGA adaptor but I can't get the full mac desktop to display. No icons but then websites are coming up. Help!  Further info:  I am a complete newbie to Mac.  Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs.  Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back)  with the F4 function key.  While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it.  Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on.  So Idragged it over to display in the centre.  But that's all that's there.  And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor.  There is some wierd disconnect.  I'm sure it is just a setting thing.  Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,
Let me know if this worked for you.

  • 2 External Monitors with the T430s with Intel HD4000

I have read several multiple monitor threads but could not get a clear solution to this.
    Model: I have a T430s with Intel HD4000 graphics.
Desired set up: 2 External Monitors + Lenovo LCD
Problem: It seems that I can only drive one external monitor. I'd like to drive two external monitors, as I did previously with my T420.
What I've tried: I have a dock and have tried VGA + DVI for the external monitors, as well as DVI + DVI. Neither setup has worked. It always greys out the third monitor in the Windows Display options.
Any thoughts on how to drive two external monitors with the T430s? Clarity is appreciated. Thank you!

    RobertWerner2 wrote:
If I'm reading the link you provided correctly, can I correctly assume that I CAN connect two external displays with just the W520 Laptop and NO docking station?
I tested this today.  You can connect two external displays (1 VGA, 1 DisplayPort) without a docking station.  The result is 3 independent displays - the ThinkPad LCD, the VGA monitor, and the DisplayPort monitor.

  • Only black screen on the external monitor with intel-virtual-output

    Hello,
I tried to install bumblebee on my Lenovo W520 with this tutorial:
    http://www.unixreich.com/blog/2013/linu … ly-solved/
I can activate my external monitor with "intel-virtual-output" and the monitor is switching on. But I can only see a black screen.

    Have you any ideas?
    Thanks a lot!

  • External monitor with Optimus Laptop (ASUS EeePC 1015PN) does it work?

I am thinking about buying an additional monitor to use as an external display for my EeePC 1015PN. At the moment I use my laptop with a script that deactivates the Nvidia card at booting (not Bumblebee, but basically the same). Now I have read that the HDMI port only works when the Nvidia card is activated, at least in Windows. So I was wondering if it is the same for Linux, anybody here using a system like this?
I guess in the worst case I have to use the VGA port, since I am guessing it is working with the Intel graphics. But I want to be sure before I buy a new monitor and then find out that there is no support for it (yet?).
The only other topic I have found about this was this one: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=125207
But the topic starter only mentiones VGA and DVI port, which both seem to work, but no HDMI. At least it is an indication that I possibly can use the VGA port with the Intel graphics card.

JonathanArcher wrote:Now I read through the bumblebee article on the wiki and it seems like you can really use the Nvidia card with bumblebee, did I get that right?
    That is correct.
JonathanArcher wrote:So if I manage to get bumblebee running, I should be able to connect a monitor via HDMI?
Unfortunately, no. You see, the way Bumblebee works is it sets up a second X server for the nvidia card and then VirtualGL is used to copy whatever the nvidia card draws there to the first X server which runs on the intel card. While it's possible to configure that second server to use the HDMI output, your mouse and keyboard are bound to the first X server.
Does your machine have a mini-DisplayPort? The asus 1215n does, and it's mini-DisplayPort is connected to the intel card, so one can use that for the external monitor.
JonathanArcher wrote:I am just asking since from my search for a suitable monitor I found out that very few and only older models come with DVI-ports where you can use a VGA to DVI adapter (DVI-I, if I remember correctly).
That doesn't work actually. What works is the other way around - DVI-I output on the card into a VGA monitor. It's because DVI-I can output either an analog VGA or a digital DVI signal. But a VGA output is always only analog, not possible to convert to digital. Not with an adapter. There are converter boxes, but they have their price.
Don't modern monitors have VGA inputs anymore? It's not ideal, but it is a picture.

  • Dual External Monitors with 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2011)

I'm looking for suggestions for using dual external monitors with new MacBook Pro's.  The company I work for has started to puchase these for certain employees and we are looking for any good suggestions.
It appears that the display/thunderbolt port should be able to support many devices but I have not seen any way to hook up multiple displays.  The idea is that these employees would be working with the macbook pro screen closed while in the office and use dual displays.  The only option that I can find is to use a usb device to output video to a second display.  I don't really like that because my experience with these devices is that they usally present a display lag and I know our graphic designers would never go for that.
One employee suggested that he use the VGA adapter and then get a VGA splitter.  I'm not exacty certain that would work though. Wouldn't that just mirror the display on two screens instead of allowing an extended desktop?  Also it looks like expensive Apple displays have ports so that you can daisy chain thunderbolt devices out of those monitors but this company will not go for the cost of those displays.
Am I missing anything?  Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks!

Look into the Matrox Dualhead2Go DP Edition. If it works with Thunderbolt Macs, it will support two identical 1920 x 1080 DVI monitors as one extended desktop. Verify with Matrox that it is Thunderbolt-compatible and will suit your purposes before ordering.
