Can't sign PDF after created.

I have created PDFs in the past few weeks and haven't been able to sign and certify them. The window comes up to Sign, and my digital signature is shown, but when I click the sign button, nothing happens. The window doesn't go away and the only way to make it go away is to hit Cancel. This used to work. What happened? I am using Acrobat 9.4.3.
This has happened more than once, so I need to know how to fix it going forward.
Thanks
Martha

I am also having this exact same problem.  It is very difficult to search for an answer given that no error is presented.
To recap the issue, when you click sign document it brings up the rectangular marquee to select your signature area.  Once selected it presents you with the sign document window.  The correct (and only) signature is selected in the "sign as" dropdown box.  Lock document is unchecked (but it doesn't work if checked either).  At this point you cannot proceed further.  The only option is to click "cancel" as clicking "Sign" does nothing.
Were you ever able to diagnose the problem or discover a work around?
Some information on my setup:
Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.5 part of CS6 suite (all updates applied)
Windows XP Pro SP3
Intel Core i7 m620
3.5 gb RAM
If anyone has any insight to this problem it would be much appreciated.

  • Can't sign PDF that has Submit button

A client has a loan application that they've saved as a fillable PDF form that they post on their web site. I'm helping them make it so their customers can save it on the customer's computer after filling it out using Adobe Reader. I also added a Submit button that sends it by secure email to the client. But something about the Submit button makes it so the customer can no longer sign the application using the Sign button in Adobe Reader. Instead, a warning appears in the right-side pane that says...
"The security settings on this document prevent adding text and/or placing a signature on it from Adobe Reader. To fill and sign this document you need to print it out."
Anyone know how to change that so it can be signed while still being savable and submittable in Adobe Reader?

Got it, and the signing feature you want to use is part of the EchoSign functionality that was recently added to Reader.
In order for Reader (prior to 11) to be able to submit the entire filled-in PDF, the document has to be Reader-enabled. The problem is when you do this, you get that message which essentially says that the EchoSign functionality is not available for such a document. The exception to the form having to be Reader-enabled in order to save is when you use the EchoSign method. When you're done signing it flattens the form fields and any added text or e-signatures.
This message is confusing because whether there's a digital signature field present or not, if the document was enabled with Acrobat Pro (as opposed to Standard), Reader users would be able to digitally sign the document. It is the EchoSign e-signature stuff that's not available.
But none of this helps you, unless you decide to use the EchoSign service instead of your current workflow of submitting by email, which may not be a bad idea. It sounds like you're wanting to take advantage of the EchoSign functionality in Reader without actually using the service, but that won't fly. I think the best you can do without using the EchoSign service while still using the EchoSign functionality in Reader is to have the user email the document manually after they're done signing. The question then becomes: Would such a workflow conform to e-sig laws (e.g., UETA, ESIGN)?

  • Can't sign PDF

I just installed Adobe Reader 8.1.2 on Windows XP Pro. I took a PDF, with which I added a signature field to with Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, and opened it in Reader. It finds the signature field, but does not allow me to sign it. I created a digital signature and followed the instructions at

I run into problems with step 1
i Choose Document > Sign > Sign Document.
The only options I see are Document > Sign > Preview Document, Validate All Signatures, (and then in grey) Clear all signature fields, and View signed version.
Any idea why I can't sign it?

    Good evening,
I would like to join in and ask:
Aandi wrote "Only PDFs with Reader Rights enabled can be signed.".
My question is : where in which program do I enable Reader Rights ?
    My situation:
In a third program I create many forms, print them as pdf and want to sign every one of them, afterwards they will be distributed as an annex to emails.
    Any hints ?.

  • Reader can't sign pdf signature field

I have a problem with digital signatures in Adobe Reader.  I have Adobe Acrobat 9.  I am including a form with multiple signature fields in a pdf portfolio.  This portfolio is circulated to collect signatures from users in different departments, some have Acrobat and some have Reader only.  I make sure that features have been extended for Reader. Most of the time they are okay.  But every once in a while (at least once or twice per week) I get a user telling me they can't sign.  No message or error of any kind, just a quick blink but no signature.  As a work-around I've had to save a copy and re-extend features.  This can be time consuming when there are a few documents I need to circulate.  Please help.

Are you colours defined as spots.? If you do not need spot colours in your job, then change them to process in the swatches panel.
Otherwise you will need to configure the RIP honour the overprints.

  • Mavericks CPU can't open pdf files created on Yosemite

I've looked around for this issue, but I haven't seen any questions similar to mine.
My wife and I have identical MacBook Pros. Hers is running Mavericks, while I've updated mine to Yosemite.
By chance, we realized that if I email her files created on my laptop, she can't open them. I've sent her Pages files, and the same files converted to PDF. So, either on Preview or Pages, she cannot open those files I've sent her.
I know that the easy answer is "update your wife's laptop to Yosemite," but I'm rather curious whether there's a bug in the system that hasn't been discovered. Besides, my wife is quite happy with Mavericks, and that's fine by me.
Any help or suggestion in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    BK

I just tested opening a Pages v5.5.1 file on Yosemite and Exporting it to a PDF file. Then I copied the PDF and Pages files over to another Mac running Mavericks and I was able to open and view the PDF file. I can't open the actual Pages file in Mavericks created in Yosemite because the Pages app is a different version in Mavericks (v5.2.2) and not compatible with the Yosemite version. But, PDFs definitely work fine and I can also open/view the same PDF file on a Mac running Mountain Lion. So, Preview in Mavericks and Mountain Lion, for me, open and view PDF files created from Yosemite/Pages without issue.
Have you tried opening your PDF file on another Mac running Mavericks?
You might try reinstalling Mavericks on top of itself. Maybe Preview in Mavericks is somehow corrupt. On the Mavericks Mac, you can redownload/reinstall Mavericks from the App Store using the same Apple ID that originally downloaded it. Or restart the Mavericks Mac into the Recovery HD (Command+R) and Reinstall OS X from there. Back up before you do the reinstall. The reinstall won't harm any data or apps. It just installs the OS over itself.

  • Can't Sign in after 10.8.3 beta install

I just installed the 10.8.3 beta, the computer rebooted, and now I can't sign in. The computer is not accepting my password. I am certain there is no caps lock on or anything, and I am 100% sure the password I am entering is correct. I tried booting up to an install disk and resetting the password, and even then, it still is not accepted.

  • Acrobat 9 people can't open pdf I created, I can't print pdfs

I loaded Acrobat 9 while still having my Acrobat 8 version installed. It asked me if it was okay for it to un-install my version 8. I said yes, but after it finished it told me the un-installation was incomplete (I think because of REGISTRY or something). It continued with install.
I can create pdfs, combine, etc. But, the person trying to open the pdf can't. They get an error.
I also cannot print pdfs given to me (I see the pdf fine, but it prints a blank page).
Now I just went through Control Panel and hit add/remove and told it to REPAIR, which it did. When I re-booted and went into my Outlook there is 475 emails! It gave me all old emails back to Jul of 2008???????
    Yikes! Help!

No product should force security on its users without providing them any practical way to override. Web browsers, email clients, and operating systems warn you of potentially dangerous files and then let the client make the choice. What if it's a zip file from a trusted source full of harmless text documents? Too bad - because Acrobat says so. Acrobat makes no attempt to examine the zip file to see if perhaps its contents are dangerous - it just sweepingly decides zips are far too dangerous to let the user have any voice in the matter. I fundamentally disagree.
Notice that I've attached a zip file to this post. Adobe allows zips on their forums but not in their PDF documents. Adobe: If you've deemed zip files safe enough to be hosted and delivered in your own forums, why have you decided they have no place in a PDF?
I think Adobe got this one wrong - and I cast a vote that they loosen the noose on zip files on a future release. I'd like to hear other users' thoughts on this issue. Adobe is good at listening to their users - so tell them what you think on this issue - I've posted this article as a feature request here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/520515 - reply to it that thread and share your viewpoint.
    Cheers,
