Can't start 11g r2 XE listener
I install this in Windows 7 machine (SP 1).
I can't start the listener. I get this error "oracleXETNSListener service on local computer started and then stopped.".
Also, in the directory C:\oracle_xe_11g_r2\app\oracle\oradata\XE has no data files and is empty.
When I start the listener using command line I get this:
Starting tnslsnr: please wait...
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
Any help would be really appreciated.
EdStevens wrote:
Sounds like your actual installation of XE failed. What append when you tried to install it?
True. I removed all the Oracle stuff from my machine using this page's instructions ( ORACLE-BASE - Manual Oracle Uninstall ) and then re-install the XE again and now it is working.
Only problem is that when installing I could not give the Oracle Base directory properly.
I gave c:\oracle as the destination direcotry. Then the Oracle Base is taken as that (c:\oracle), BUT
the Oracle Home comes as c:\oracle\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server.
According to OFA, if c:\oracle is the ORACLE_BASE, then the ORACLE_HOME should be
c:\oracle\product\11.2.0\server_1, but it creates the app\oracle sub-directories beneath the oracle base???
Also, can I install more than 1 oracle XE DB in the same machine? I tried but you only get repair and delete options int eh OUI.

Is there a DBCA which comes with XE. I looked around and I can't find one. Am I correct to say the XE does not have a DBCA?

Please, if somebody knows this problem I need a very urgent help. Thank you very much. Thanks ALL, I GOT IT, but I used other solution.
Since I installed and uninstalled the Oracle several times, it keeps also many different Services for the listener. I don't know why, it didn't create a Service for my actual instalation with its path. In other words, all the services remained in the services.msc panel, had the path that was already removed from the Windows folder.
Then what I did, was that I picked one service, took its name (OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener), went to regedit to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener] and simply changed the image path that was setted for the one that was removed (C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_2\BIN\TNSLSNR ) for mine that is installed right now
(C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1\BIN\TNSLSNR). Nothing more and finally works.
I have tried something in the services.msc panel before, as you can see in this forum at the thread "I can't start listener in the Control Painel/Admin Tools/ Services", but I never got
success.

Your TNS_ADMIN setting is messed up.
$PATH is a Unix style environment variable reference - isn't going to work on Windows. I'm not even sure you can do a list of directories to search in the TNS_ADMIN variable.
Check the value set in HKLM/Software/Oracle/youroraclehomename ... Set it explicitly to the location of your tnsnames.ora file.
You normally don't need a listener.ora file at all ... Rename it and see what happens. -

thanksAlthough not uncommon with non-exa systems, On exa systems, there are multiple network interfaces enabled. it might be that some one started up a local listener on the same network interface and port. please use "netstat -natp | grep 1521 | grep -i listen" to find out all the processes using port 1521 . This will tell you, which process is occupying it.
Kill the offending process and restart your normal listener. It should come up. if it still doesn't paste the netstat output and listener.ora/srvctl config entry for the listener -

I am attempting to install 11g, 11.1.0 onto a stand alone box which has Windows XP SP2 as the OS.

I have installed the loopback adapter on 10.10.10.10 and updated my hosts file, the computer can resolve this to the computer name and vice versa.
Upon installing 11g and the starter database, the install continues normally, succeeding with the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant. However when the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant is run, 89% of the way through an error is thrown as follows:

You can retry configuring this database with Enterprise Manager later by manually running C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\bin\emca script.
When I click ok on the error message the install completes as normal.

I have re run the db configuration again but it would not start because apparently there was no listener, running the Net Configuration Assistant makes no difference.
All firewalls and anti virus software have been disabled for the purposes of this install.
Do I need to manually register the listener with the database, if so how do I go about doing this?
I have installed 10g on a standalone box before with no trouble, what have I missed here?, any help greatly appreciated. To answer my own question I fixed this by issuing the command
netsh winsocks reset
Winsocks deals with windows networking and can become corrupt through installs of software, virus cleaning, etc.
Hope that helps,

Is this caused by something with the configuration?
JeffreyHi ,
What is your OWB version ?
If it is 10.2 then read the following
With Warehouse Builder 10.2.0.X, the Repository Browser Listener is only supported on Windows x86-32bit and linux x86-32bit client machine.
So start the Warehouse Builder Repository Browser Listener on Windows/Linux x86-32bit client machine
For 11g refer MOS Note 469422.1

when I type "rc.d start mysqld" it displays busy for a while, then fails. At this point it does not generate an error message. I have changed the permissions of /var/lib/mysql recursively to 777. I have also created the mysqld directory in /var/run and given it 777 permissions. I hope I have included all the relevant files.
I have read every suggestion on the internet and gotten nowhere. Please help a noobus out. Thanks in advance.

# To configure this host as a replication slave, you can choose between

# 1) Use the CHANGE MASTER TO command (fully described in our manual) -
# the syntax is:
# CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST=<host>, MASTER_PORT=<port>,
# MASTER_USER=<user>, MASTER_PASSWORD=<password> ;
# where you replace <host>, <user>, <password> by quoted strings and
# <port> by the master's port number (3306 by default).
# Example:
# CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST='125.564.12.1', MASTER_PORT=3306,
# MASTER_USER='joe', MASTER_PASSWORD='secret';
# OR
# 2) Set the variables below. However, in case you choose this method, then
# start replication for the first time (even unsuccessfully, for example
# if you mistyped the password in master-password and the slave fails to
# connect), the slave will create a master.info file, and any later
# change in this file to the variables' values below will be ignored and
# overridden by the content of the master.info file, unless you shutdown
# the slave server, delete master.info and restart the slaver server.
# For that reason, you may want to leave the lines below untouched

interactive-timeoutHi,
I seem to have had an issue with mysql as well and it appears to be that I don't have a sock file as I have checked /var/run/mysqld for mysqld.sock and it does not exist so would that be what is stopping mysql server from starting and if so how do I create the sock file ??
Cheers
Quazza
Update - Actually I solved my problem to, it was to do with my log files filling up but that also led to the bigger problem of a failing HD oh what fun anyway got there before any major data loss.

Can't start managed server in Oracle Service Bus 10gR3
Using Windows 2003 Enterprise.
Standard install of OSB 10gR3 - only changes from standard are that I also installed the samples, otherwise, it's default install the whole way.
My windows machine name is the same as a name entry in the HOSTS file, as follows
127.0.0.1 localhost
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx osb-strat
yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy osb-other
I eventually want to setup a domain across 2 machines with 2 servers, one on each, hence the two entries.
For the life of me, I cannot start a managed server for OSB, I keep seeing

I did manage it once, but then I had problems seeing the second machines Node Manager - I have figured that out, but during my screwing around, I lost how to get the primary machines service to boot - I have not even attempted to boot the server on the second, remote machine!
I have tried creating the domain using the Config wizard and creating the server/machine using the config wizard.
I have tried creating an empty domain using the Config wizard then using the Admin Console to create the machine and server.
I have tried editing the boot.properties in C:\bea\user_projects\domains\TheDomain\servers\Strategic\data\nodemanager
I have tried setting the listening address to the Hostname of the server, blank, to the IP address.
I have tried configuring the service to not do host name validation.
I do see, in the startup logs, that it notes that the hostname resolves to both the external IP and 127.0.0.1
I have tried re-installing (multiple times) hoping to have a fresh start.
I have even setup a Snapshot, post installation so I can re-start configuration from the very start.
I am at my wits end.
Surely, it can't be that hard to setup a vanilla server and boot it?
Any suggestions, maybe even a step by step creation of a single server (other than the admin server for the domain), that boots, starting immediately after installation?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
...LyallWe also use a boot.properties in ${domain.home}, which may only be for Admin server, but worth checking anyway. Also, I often receive the boot.properties message you're seeing when there's other problems upstream, and I've found the message to be quite misleading at times. For example, if I have a problem with an LDAPAuthenticator or any other security mechanism I'll often see the boot.properties message eventhough the problem has nothing to do with that file.

Can't start the web site of Reports Services
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?
After installation of the 9iAS, can't start the web site of
Reports Services
and Form Services from the URL listed in the postinstallation
guide using
default port no 1950. The dev60html and devdem60/demo
directories are not
existing, the runrep.htm and runform.htm files are in the
directory
tools/web60/html. I also tried to replace the dev60html with
tools/web60/html
in the URL but it won't work.
During the installation the discoverer and portal tools failed,
the portal
hanged at 100%, and the discoverer didn't install the util
directory. But we
can login to the portal from the URL.
Below is the message when I start from the command line: I am
not sure if it is
working.

ThanksHi,
Dumb question : is one of your server listening on port 7001 ? If not, should it ?
What is the expected behavior ? A managed trying to connect to the admin server ?
Check the value for ADMIN_URL value, set in the startManagedServer.sh or cmd.
Another dumb question : do you have a firewall ? -
