Can't start GarageBand. "GarageBand requires QuickTime 7.3.0 or higher". Mac Pro early 2009, 8-core, RAID, 32GB RAM.I reinstalled twice (Mac OSX 10.8 clean install). Using latest version of all multimedia programs; Final Cut X, Motion, Compressor, Logic X, Komplete 9 Ultimate, QT X, QT 7 (MIDI files), flip4mac Studio Pro HD, Screenflow4, EyeTV-turbo.264HD, ... LogicX does work (thank god). Other current issues: Video conversion; 1-Compessor 4.07 crashes on startup, bug report sent to Apple. 2-Turbo.264HD creates unplayable M4V files. Currently using Handbrake for video conversion instead. I tried a bunch of workaround. I am out of ideas, I don't know what's wrong. Anyone? TIA.
(I need GarageBand on my Mac because I use it on my iPhone to play backtracks. I am mentioning the video conversion issues because I think this might be linked to QT, but what I really need is start GarageBand.)

And what is your GarageBand version?
QuickTime 7 is a old QuickTime version for MacOS X 10.5. Your clean install of Mac OS X must have erased some older dynamic libraries that GarageBand needs.
Try, if reinstalling Quicktime 7 does help:

Sorry. Um. Try to completely remove the Quicktime program from the Add/Remove directory via Control Panel. Reboot your computer. From the Apple website Save the Quicktime program to your Desktop (i.e., rather than "run from this location.") Install Quicktime by clicking on the Quicktime install program that should be present on your desktop. When it is done, reboot your computer.

I second the M-Audio recommendation. I have the Oxygen 8 and 61es keyboards from them, and they both work flawlessly with Garageband.

This depends on what you want to do with Garageband. Do you want to record with a keyboard only and just use Garageband's built-in software instruments? Do you want to record vocals? Do you want to record a guitar or bass or other instrument? Do you want to record drums?
Technically, you don't even need a keyboard to use Garageband, you could just use the software keyboard (Window -> Keyboard) or musical typing (Window-> Musical Typing). However, an external keyboard will give you a lot more flexibility. I don't recommend trying to record drums into Garageband unless you already know how to mic drums. Instead use the built-in drum kit software instruments with your keyboard.
Your iMac has a built-in mic, so you should be ok recording vocals with that.
If you want to record an acoustic guitar or another acoustic instrument, you can also use the built-in mic though you may find that you don't like the way it sounds very much since built-in mics tend to pick up lots of noise from the computer itself.
If you want to record an electric guitar or bass, you can just plug in the line out on your instrument to the line in port on your iMac, but you won't get really good results. You'd be better off geting a piece of hardware called an audio interface Sweetwater sells these too: http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/computer-audio/audio_interfaces/ (USB and Firewire interfaces are easiest to start with.) M-Audio also has some good cheap interfaces. I've used the FastTrack Pro for a few years now, and I started out with the FastTrack USB.

Hello. I made the upgrade to Mavericks.
Now I can't get Mac Garageband '11 Version 6.0.5 (428.5) to open a project shared from iTunes iPhone 5 iOS7 (latest version).
I get this message on the Mac:
"This song requires a newer version of GarageBand. Please update to the latest version of GarageBand before opening this song".
But there is no newer version.
Any info about the compatibility of the OSX 10.6.8 and iOS7 Garageband? Any idea?

version 10 is the newest version, it is available free from the Mac App store

When you lauch GarageBand it will present you a Start up screen - If you select "New" you will see templates for projects to start from - "song writing" is a nice template for vocals with accompanyment.

As the other person that replied, I have no issues with my 4S on iOS 7.0.2. What user troubleshooting have you tried? Restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. Try double tapping on the home button, swipe upwards to force closed the camera app, then do a reset. That is holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. This will have not affect on your data. Try opening the camera app again and see if it works.
One last question. You say that it shows a standard size picture of the picture where you started. Is this when you are looking at the picture you tried to take in the Camera Roll?

GarageBand 10 needs the loops and instruments from Garageband ´09 or ´11 installed to be able to play the older projects with all sounds. Otherwise instruments and loops may be missing. If you uninstalled GarageBand completely, reinstall iLife '11 to be able to use the older instruments and loops in GarageBand 10. before you install GarageBand 10.0.
GarageBand 10. comes only with a basic set of instruments and needs to be expanded by an in-app purchase. If you have GarageBAnd '11 installed, you should be able to get the in-app purchase for free. Expanding GarageBand for Mac (v10.0) content with an in-app purchase

With the latest build of GarageBand on the device, move to the My Songs view, tap the Edit button at top right, select the shaking song you want to export, then tap the sharing arrow symbol at top left, tap iTunes, then GarageBand.
Connect the device to iTunes, select it in the left-hand column, then select the Apps tab. You should find the exported file in the File Sharing area of the GarageBand app and from there you can copy it to your computer, then open it with the GarageBand application.

I use iPad 2 with iOS 6 and GarageBand v1.3.
I'd like to play an other app like Sunrizer synth while the GarageBand is recording in the background in a track.
By now I can do it only using the build-in mic of iPad, but this is not the point.
Can I record other apps in a GarageBand track?

I suspect you are probably correct about the reasoning, although there are already a myriad of ways to do that.
Don't get me wrong - I never said I like this. But it is consistent with other Apple applications, that are similar restrictive; you cannot take a screenshot, when dvd-player is running for example.
