Can't start iPhone 5

I have bought a new iPhone 5. Before that I backup my iPhone 4 in computer, when I plug in iPhone 5 to iTunes, it requests itune10.7 as minimum requirement.  However, I don't know why can't install itunes 10.7.  If I ignore this iTunes requirement, I can't restore my old iPhone content.
what can I do? Urgent please ><

I checked before installation. It requires 3XX M storage and my computer seems sufficient as well:-
System version:      Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
HD available:          15.3 GB
When I tried to install iTunes 10.7, computer just told me to ask software manufacturer. Which part is wrong?
