Can't start NT service for Directory Server using other acc. than LocalSys.

Hi!
I'm using Directory Server 5.1 on a Windows 2000 machine.
I wrote a Plug-In for DS that needs Administrator Access to the NT Domain. So I tried to run the DS-Service as Administrator but the service can not start. I just keeps in status "starting...".
I don't get any error message and the errorlog doesn't contain anything.
Has anyone an idea?

I forgot to tell one thing: I use SSL, without SSL I do not have this problem. Perhaps it's only the popup I get when starting DS, where I have to enter the certificate password?

Can't start web services in OSX Server 10.3

I used the GUI to turn on webDAV on one of my domains and now I can't even start web services.
For some reason, all of my domains now have multiple alias mappings, redirects, alias matches and redirect matches.
I have tried to delete the additional mappings from my domains, but everytime I hit save, they rewrite themselves. I deleted the domain in which I activated webDAV and recreated it and the mappings still rewrite themselves.
Any suggestions as to how to stop the automatic writing of the mappings and get my web services up and running again?
This is the last error in the httpd error log:

I can't start Oracle Services for MTS

Hello there, Oracle users!
I am new here, as new to the Oracle technology. We are developping a
software which must be transaction compliant, and we're on microsoft
platform, and thatswy we're using sql2000 and microsoft transaction
server for our application server components.
But one of our clients wants to use oracle 8i db as the resource manager. We had to make the proper work mts with oracle. I've red all of the oracle documentation within this topic, and i successfully installed
the Oracle Services for MTS on our development machine at the workplace.
(created the mts_proxy_info table, granted the specific roles to a specific db user, the specific privileges, and so on), and
it is working nicely, the log says "accepting new enlistment requests",
everything is wonderful.
But at the client, i repeated all of the steps (the only difference is,
that they have the server on a HP-UX machine instead of winnt and i had not access to the oracle server, i just gived the sql script to the oracle dba guy there (maybe he missed something?)), and when i wanted to start the oracle services for MTS on the Application server, the log says this: "incorrect password, or username". I really don't
undestand it, because i can connect through the OLEDB driver with the
specified username, password and Service name. (in a datalink (udl), for example)
If anybody had an idea i would be very happy

In pre-8.1.7.4.0 beta implementations, your application server e.g. IIS or MTX.EXE hosts MTS transactional components. When such components acquire OLEDB or ODBC connections to Oracle and external service setup for that database i.e. OracleMTSService<id> joins the MTS transaction on behalf of the Oracle database which quite often runs on a non-Windows platform e.g. Solaris. We restrict each database to have one and only such service. This brings in scalability and availability issues. In 8.1.7.4.0 we have embedded the transaction join and commit logic in the clientside dll. There is no OracleMTSService<id> for a given database. The only service needed is a recovery service one per Windows machine on which Oracle Svcs For MTS is installed. This service is automatically created on installation of the product and doesn't connect to the databases. Instead the involved databases connect to the service via HTTP to resolve any MTS-related transactions that are in-doubt.

Can't find SP4 patch for directory Server 5.1

I am trying to upgrade directory Server 5.1 SP2 to SP4 on sunOS 5.8, but am having some difficulties in finding the actual patch. Below is what the release notes for SP4 say about updating form a previous 5.1 version. I have found the 113859-04 patch, but it is for sunOS 5.9. I even tried to run this patch on the test server but found that it complained about everything being out of date. I have downloaded directory Server 5.1 SP4 so I could try the ZIP install, but could not find any patch ZIP that they reference from the release notes section below. I am assuming if I just do the standard install of the Directory Server 5.1 SP4 it well destroy my current configuration instead of updating it. I am hoping for any help in this upgrade as I have not found any information in all my searches. thanks for the Help.

There's nothing to configure on the client side. On the database side you just need to run a script once to setup an ORAMTS admin account and some other infrastructure.

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist

I'm running an Xserve G5 with one internal boot drive and one RAID using the other two internal drives. I used Apple's Disk Utility to set-up the RAID.
Back in early December, I moved my mail database and mail store to the RAID. Ever since, when I restart the server, the mailaccess.log generates the following error:
Jan 23 18:51:33 mail master[47]: ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist: /Volumes/RAID/mail.data/db
I'm speculating this is a timing error that gets created when Postfix initially can't find the RAID. Then, it must try again and find it because the error message does not repeat and mail starts running.
Is this something to worry about?

You're right, it's a timing issues. The mail system is ready for work before the file system is mounted. It's benign.

Where can I get a price for Distiler Server?

I've a requirement to convert a few thousand Postscript files to PDF, I've tried running Distiller 9 from the command line to get several threads running and it seems to work just fine.
Reviewing the license terms it seems that I need a Distiller Server license as this is an automated process running on a server platform (although not multi user).
My local Adobe reseller is not much help, and I have left several messages with the UK Enterprise sales hotline over the last few days and no one has called back.
Questions:
am I correct in thinking I need the Distiller Server license, (I don't need any added functinality over the standard Distiller package, so I don't think I need any Lifecycle Enterprise systems)
how much it might cost for a multiple CPU server
where can I buy it

Can't access my Directory Server using the Console installed on a machine

can't access my Directory Server using the Console installed on a remote server, lookied into knowledge base article 4693, but still same any idea ?

I too am having problems accessing Directory server from Netscape Console installed on Winxp.
If I try to open Directory server it doesn't give any error. No windows nothing.
If I try th same from the machine on which it is installed everything is fine. What is strange is that it did open a couple of times. But at the same time I can open the admin server, Netscape Messaging server from the xp box. Searching all over for a solution. Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Config details:
iDS4.13, iMS 5.0, running on Sol 8 box
Netscape Console 4.2 on WinXP.

Seperate NT service for App server and Process Scheduler

Is it possible to create a separate NT service for App server and Process Schedule for the same environment? Everytime i need to shutdown either App Domain or Prcs Domain (not both) using service, it brings down both.
I could use psadmin but services run as a different user.
Please advise.

What PeopleTools release are you using? Off the top of my head, one strategy would be to use different PS_CFG_HOMEs for the App and the Process scheduler. The service points to the PS_CFG_HOME and reads the pswinsrv.cfg file to know what to start/stop. I'm not sure there is a way to override psntsrv and tell it to use a different config file, so you may need a different HOME. You could also create a script that wraps the service start/stop. It could edit/update the config file prior to stop/start and remove Process Scheduler from the config and then reinsert it later.
You could have a stop_app/start_app and stop_prcs/start_prcs script that would copy in specific versions of the pswinsrv.cfg file for what you want to do.

Can I deploy web service on APEX server

I have APEX 3.1.2 on 11g database.
I need to pull data from other oracle 9i databases into APEX application. I have created web service on my pl/sql package to pull data from 9i databases and deployed service on my local oc4j instance (within jdeveloper). My APEX app pull data from multiple oracle 9i database. Now I need to move my web service to my dev/test environment.
Can I deploy web service on APEX server? or do I need to deploy on another web server?
I know I can easily pull the data from other oracle 9i databases using DB link. I want to explore Web services option to just to see is it possible to pull data from multiple sources into APEX app using web service running from APEX server?.
Any help on this will be appreciated.

I am in the same situation. Consuming a web service is easy with APEX. But publishing one needs a web server that is more complex than the one that comes with APEX for free.
I am exploring the possibility of building the web service in Jdeveloper as you have. Then I will make a WAR file that I will publish to an apache tomcat J2EE server that another department runs. I believe it will work since all the components required should be in the WAR file.
I am new at this. I will let you know how it works out.
The other possibility is to upgrade the appserver to the full Oracle Fusion server (maybe). This may be expensive and be too much for just a simple web service. But then the publish to application server from jdeveloper is super easy.
