Can't start up - Can anyone help?
I was attempting to change over to OSX from 9.2. I went thru the startup disk menu and chose the 10.2 disk. When it restarted it came up in what appeared to be DOS mode. It told me there was memory problem and said to type mac-boot to continue. When I did that, the screen went blank (white with black lines running vertical). Now when I try to boot, all I get is the message to push the reset button to restart. I tried to use option key when restarting and the OSX disk is the only one displaying, and it won't restart. I need help!!
Hoe do I get back on OS 9.2? I was getting ready to upgrade to 10.4, will that help? I need some advise. Thanks, Charleyß
If you have been inside the machine, verify your RAM sticks are fully seated.
If you have added non-OEM ram, remove it and try to boot.
Run the Apple HW CD and perform a ram test. What are the results?

I have recently bought a new laptop with windows 7 and when i have tried to install and open itunes i keep getting the message 'itunes has stopped working' itunes then shuts down before i can do anything to fix it. This happens every time I try to open itunes. I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it, starting itunes in safe mode. Nothing seems to work. Please can anyone help.
If and when I finally manage to open it, as soon as I click on a movie to watch, the message "itunes has stopped working" comes up.

Try to backup and restore you device in itunes...restoring the device is like removing the iOS software off the device and re-add in a newer software, after you have restore you device, MAKE SURE YOU SET UP YOUR DEVICE LIKE A NEW DEVICE, DONT NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP!!... give the device a chance to use the newer software and see if the issue still persisting, if the issue still on going then its would be a hardware issue.
Call Apple Care and see if your device is still under warranty to get it replace -

That means it can find the Hard Drive, or can't find the things needed for booting.
See if DU even sees it.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.) -
When I start iTunes I get the following message. "A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes (-42404)". I have installed the latest version of iTunes but still get this message. Can anyone help?

iTunes has various components bundled with it that it requires for general usage. I advise that we completely remove iTunes and all of these related components, verify that they have been removed, then reinstall. To do so, please follow the steps in this article:

Note: it is important to remove the 7 components in order. Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.

Can anyone help me get my iMac to reboot? I get a gray "curtain" over the light gray start up screen with a message that I need to restart my computer and to hold the power button until it powers off and then press the power button again to restart. It just does this over and over again and won't restart.
Yeah, as necronym stated, it is a hardware issue and more than likely a RAM problem. Disconnect everything from the computer except keyboard and mouse and try again. If it still happens try removing one and/or swapping your RAM sticks over. Keep trying until you have eliminated all possible combinations. Just put a mark on one RAM stick so you know what have tried. If it still fails to boot properly you should probably replace your RAM, but that is no guarantee of success. When I tried to update Itunes I got an error message telling me to reinstall. When I try to reinstall I get a message "Apple Mobile Devide failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privliges to start syem services" I'm not sure what this means, can anyone help here? Thanks,
I tried the temp fix you mentioned, it didn't work. I could not delete all of the old itunes files, the uninstallers would crash half way through and if I tried to manually delete anything it also gave me an error, so reinstalling the older version would not work.
Frankly, this whole thing has got me ****** off. judging by the amount of complaints here, there must be a lot of people having this problem, yet Apple has let it go on for almost 2 weeks. What kind of inept coders are they employing if they can let an update that completely frags their software get through QA.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

Something is wrong when starting up my iMac5. I press the power button and it goes no where except to a blank light blue screen with a 1/2x1/2 inch square right in the middle of the screen where it flashes the finder icon and a question mark. Your iMac cannot find the startup disk. Your startup disk did not mount. Somehow, the formatted info cannot be read. Using your Install DVD, run Disk Utility and repair disk then repair disk permissions. It may be necessary to first mount the disk.
If none of this will work, the disks header info is badly damaged. It will be necessary to format the disk to get it to mount. In this case, this will wipe all the data thats on the disk. You will have to reinstall the OS.
If you had a second bootable HD or another Mac connected with Firewire, you could first run Data Rescue can extract the data to the other drive before formatting.

My Mac starts itself automatically around 1:00 am about ever other night. I don't want it to do that. I had a backup program installed once that was set to do the backup at that time, but I have long since uninstalled that program. Yet the computer still powers on automatically. I checked in the control panels and don't see it set to do that. I used the Console program to check my log, but I don't know how to read what it says. Perhaps there's remnants of that App you're not aware of... what was it?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...

Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

My ipod nano is fully charged, I put it on shuffle and the song starts, about 1 minute into the song the ipod shuts, I push the power button and it turns on to play screen I push play and song starts again where it was when it shut off. Can anyone help?
This is usually a good indication that your headphones aren't plugged all the way in. The white part of the headset should be flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the headphone's plug should still be seen. The headphone jacks on the newer nanos are a bit tighter than in previous generations and require a bit of extra force.
