Can't start up can't re-install the OS

My daughter's ibook was running very slow. I have repaired my own mac for years so i followed the processes I do on my own machine. First I fixed all the permissions. Then I ran the install disk and ran the repair disk procedure from disk utility. . Then i tried a hardware test from the install disk, and everything passed. But still i couldn't get it rto run at the usual speed. So then I tried a re-install. It did this very slowly, took almost half an hour, and then right at the end i got a message that the install had failed, and i needed to try again to install. But the second time, i couldn't get the installer to let me choose a destination volume. No volumes appeared in the destination window. Because both the "options" and the "continue" buttons were grayed out, i couldn't install the OS. Since the install program couldn't "see" the hard drive, i ran the hardware test again. Once again, everything passed. But now i can't boot up. And i can't do any kind of an install.
I have no idea what to try next. I am wondering if i should try to re-format the hard drive. But i don't know how do that since the install disk can't seem to find the HD? I don't own tech tool or any other fix-it software. At this point, any help is much appreciated.

Yah i see what you mean. I finally got a copy of Disk Warrior to load. Once again, the hard drive passed the disk test, but i couldn't get DW to fix anything at all, and after an initial load, the spinning beach ball appeared and wouldn't go away. My local tech guy thinks it's a bad logic board.
It makes me mad because my daughter worked all summer last year to buy this ibook for college, and now just 14 months later it has completely failed her. She can't afford to get it fixed ($399 flat fee to apple) if it needs an entirely new logic board. I'd call this a lemon since her ibook costs almost a third more than a completely usable PC laptop, and only a lemon wqould quit after such a short life. We own 5 macs right now, and many more going back to the days of the duo. This one is the first to ever fail our family.

Check out the article below on troubleshooting iTunes start up issues. You may need to start up in Safe Mode or even remove iTunes and its associated software and reinstall iTunes.

About a week ago I started to have problems with the Mac after 10.5.6! First the Mac after shut down would restart on its own in 10 to 15 minutes. I read in various forums about some of the 10.5.6 problems. I did a clean reinstall where the Mac created a previous system folder. After this suddenly mail, I-Chat as well as some other programs would open, then close immediately! Since I did not have things backed up because I didn't have a large drive, I dragged my files and apps to another drive and reformatted the drive zeroing out all data and did a fresh new install then brought in the combo 10.5.6 update.The Mac is running correctly but I can't Zap the P-Ram, startup from the Mac OS X installer Dvd with the C key or run Apple Hardware Test with the D key or boot in safe mode with the shift key. I can boot any of the Bootable disks from the start-up Disk in Preferences.
I went over this with Apple and they suggested I run the Apple Hardware test. It won't run on this machine because I can't boot it with the D- Key. I ran tech Tools and every single thing checks out OK! This Mac has worked great since I got it in I believe Feb or March of 2007.

Make sure that you don't have firmware password protection enabled. It will prevent some boot key shortcuts from working, like clearing NVRAM, etc. You can disable firmware password protection by booting off the OSX DVD and loading the utility.

I've about had it up to here with this new Photos scheme. I reorganised my Aperture libraries on both my iMac and MBA in preparation for this, delayed turning Photos on for a couple of days until I thought everything was ready based upon the limited advice that was out there, and then got stuck in an endless loop of "uploading" and "preparing" every time I opened Photos. There are 19,975 images in my Aperture library on the iMac. I was stuck at Uploading at anywhere between that number and 19,000 with no progress after hours of waiting. I tried all the tricks mentioned here including re booting, restarting the app, repairing/rebuilding the database, killing the "cloudd" process, etc.today Today when I restarted Photos, it now said I had 23,775 images to upload- 4000
more than I have-and of course it got stuck there, like it has for the last week.
I copied the previous Aperture library (pre Photos migration)back to my iMac and opened it in Aperture. Thankfully, all the photos I had taken on my iPhone this week during this Photos clusterphuck transition were in the Aperture Stream so I didn't lose any of those. I'm willing to give this whole thing one more shot. So i need some advice. How can I start anew with Photos and clear the (minimal) stuff it has uploaded (about 6000 of 19,000 images in the last 7 days) ? If I simply delete the Photos.photolibrary file will that do the trick and lt me start a new fresh library using?

It is hard to say from your post, why the migration did not succeed in your case.
by "stuck on upload" do you mean, you opened the Aperture library in Photos, and Photos converted it to a Photo Library, and then the upload to iCloud Photo Library did hang? Or did already the upgrade to the Photo Library fail?
If you want the Aperture library to upload to iCloud Photo Library, it needs to be on a disk formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled) and the original image files must not be referenced. Referenced originals will not upload.
Also, the upload may hang, if you do not have enough free iCloud storage, orr if one of the videos or photos in your library is in an unsupported format or corrupted.
To start over, try to repair and rebuild the Aperture library before opening it in Photos. Try all Aperture Library First Aid options - starting with repairing the permissions. (Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual)

You will have to delete the photos that are already in icloud too; otherwise you are risking duplicates.
Can you launch Photos at all? If yes, delete all photos in Photos and empty the Recently Deleted album. Wait for the deletion to sync to iCloud. Then delete the Photos.photolibrary.

How long did you hold these buttons for? Did you try more than once? Have you tried letting it charge for a bit and trying again?

Can using BouncyCastle be an alternative to installing the policy files?

Hey, sorry if this is a dumb question but I have been looking into this all day.
I want to write a program that incorporates unlimited strength encryption, but installing the JCE Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files is not an option (I can do it on one of the development machines, but I don't have write access to JAVAHOME on the other, and I can't expect every user of the program to install these files).
Now I know that if I specify BouncyCastle as a provider when using JCE, I still have to install the above files... but what if I don't use JCE and I use the algorithms provided (handily without any form of documentation whatsoever) by BouncyCastle - can this be a workaround? I've heard conflicting views on this.
If this isn't the case, can anyone please point me in the right direction of what I could do instead? Ie. if there was some way to include these files in the classpath rather than actually install them.
Also, if using BC is a solution to problem, I would really appreciate it if anyone has such an example of AES-256 encryption and decryption with CBC and padding that they could point me in the direction of, I am having a real issue figuring out the BC API.

As long as you use the BouncyCastle lightweight crypto API rather than the JCE you should not encounter any of the JCE's restrictions. This means you cannot use Cipher.getInstance("Whatever/ABCCBC/TooMuchPadding", "BC"). Just include the lightweight api jar in your class path; the source is here: http://www.bouncycastle.org/download/lcrypto-jdk1<whatever>-139.zip

Can't sign in when trying to install the Elements 13 upgrade.

Purchased the upgrade fro PSE 12 to PSE 13, if has downloaded, when I try to install if asks me to sign in, it just stays thinking about signing in for ages and doesn't go any further.

I've tried that and I still can't sign in when trying to install. Although I can sign in when I go to the adobe website through Firefox without a problem, I'm having issues with Internet Explorer as it shows "can't display this page check that the website is correct", with certain websites eg: facebook, hotmail and my bank, so I don't know if this is an issue with signing in while trying to install.
Would it have been better to have purchased the disk from a store and installed from that? If so, how do I get a refund from Adobe for the download purchase?

You don't have to remove anything if you do the update via your pc with i-tunes.
Then you need only 1,1 GB.

1. I try to reseat the memory card, MEM LED from diagnostic panel is not lit anymore. I think it solve the memory problem initially.
2. I use the following command to refresh the database
NCS stop
NCS DB reinitdb
NCS start
After reinitdb, I can login to prime infrastructure. it seems like the system is working fine. All of the configuration is gone. So, I proceed to restore the configuration.

I notice that the prime only detect 12GB RAM instead of 16GB. There is hardware failure (1 of 4 memory is spoil). Unit have to be RMA.
