Can't start without power plugged in. (w/ fully charged battery)

when I don't have the power connected, my MacBook Pro (Intel core duo) won't boot from the battery. But the battery indicator shows it is fully charged. It's a pretty new battery and power supply too. As soon as I disconnect the power, the MacBook Pro shuts down... The battery is charging, according to the indicator in the menu bar of the desktop.
Any ideas?

Take it in for repair. The battery may be bad or the charger is bad, or some other related hardware problem.

  • T61 Window 7 don't start without power cable

I have T61 think pad with windows 7 64 bits and windows don't start with the battery only but they start when the electrical cable is plugged.  It's very strange, please help me.

Try booting to bios screen then insert a fully charged battery and unplug the power, if the laptop shuts off, then you have a motherboard problem, however I would definitely test the batteries in another computer just to make sure they work before you replace your board.
If it does run off the battery when the power is unplugged, but won't start with just the battery, try removing the battery and ac power and press the start button ten times holding 5 seconds each, then 30 seconds on the last time, then replace power and battery and try again. If that doesn't help you can try removing the cmos battery too and and repeating this step, but in most cases this too indicates a system board failure.

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.

Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • How can we tell if the iphone is already fully charged in ios7? Even if its 100% the thunderbolt icon is still displayed. Not like in ios 6 that we will know when to unplug the charger because there is an indicator.

How can we tell if the iphone is already fully charged in ios7? Even if its 100% the thunderbolt icon is still displayed. Not like in ios 6 that we will know when to unplug the charger because there is an indicator.

For those who seem unfamiliar with what is being asked:
On iOS 6 and older, just because the phone reached 100%, didn't mean it was Fully Charged. The way you could tell was the lightning bolt symbol that indicated the device was charging would change to an outlet plug when the device was not only 100%, but also stopped accepting further charge. This symbol switch would occur anywhere from 5-15 minutes after the device already was displaying 100%.
Now, on iOS 7, while it still reaches 100% with that same lightning bolt charge symbol, during the 100% point, it never switches to the plug symbol to indicate the charge period is totally finished.
Can anyone confirm if there is a way to see this charge completion in iOS 7 since it appears that there is no longer a symbol for it? Is there any indication that Apple may have changed the charging display so that now it only displays 100% when it would have previously displayed that plug symbol?

Copied from Texas Mac Man ...
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • HT1476 should ipod touch be left plugged in after fully charging

Can the ipod touch be left plugged in after fully charging?   Can leaving it plugged in help extend battery life or is it harmful to the battery?

It does not harm the battery. For maximum battery life Apple recommeds that you almost fully discharge and then fully charge the iPod's battery monthly.

  • I have a Power Shot SD4500 IS and after battery is fully charged battery runs down without any use.

I have a Power Shot SD4500 IS and after charging battery  then placing in camera and within a day the battery is dead.  I have tried replacing with a new battery and have the same problem.  Any suggestions?
The last time (2 years ago) I had a problem with my previous ELPH I was told it was less expensive to replace the camera than to repair, but after buying 2 in 5 years with limited use, this is getting old.
    HELP

    Pharmboy007,
I would like to ask a couple questions to see if I can determine what is causing the issue.
How long is the camera sitting before you are using it and finding out that the battery is no longer charged?
Does this happen with other batteries, or just the one battery?

  • Powering off while plugged in and fully charged...

I have no idea why this is happening and it just started tonight. With my laptop both fully charged and plugged in the computer completely turns off with no type of warning and no signs of anything wrong when it is turned right back on. My power adapter and my battery are less than 3 months old. The only thing that has recently been changed is I upgraded from 512 MB of RAM to 2 GB and loaded several Adobe CS3 applications, but it has worked fine since the changes which were about a week ago. Could it have anything to do with that? Any other ideas?

Verify that the new RAM is seated properly. If it is, take it out and reinstall the original RAM to see if the problem is still there. If the problem goes away, it is either a problem with the new RAM or it wasn't seated properly. If the new 2GB is two 1GB modules, insert them one at a time to try to isolate the shutdown to a specific module.

  • T4i won't power up; tried 2 fully charged batteries and 2 sd cards

My Rebel t4i seems to have died after uploading photos yesterday.  Tried 2 fully charged batteries and 2 cards.  Checked the connections and it seems weird that the camera won't power on immediately after uploading photos.

The camera has a few power interlocks which will prevent the camera from powering up.  One is on the battery door.  One is on the SD card slot door.  There may also be one that detects if the memory card is fully seated.
Can you remove and *carefully* re-insert the memory card to make sure it's fully seated and in the correct orientation.  (label faces the back of the camera) and make sure the memory card slot door is able to close completely.  Also make sure the battery door is able to close completely.
Also make sure the doors are not damaged in any way (typically the doors have a tiny tab which engages a micro-switch.)

  • Monitor connected to powerbook. Can I start without opening powerbook?

Hello! We have two powerbooks and they're connected to 20" displays. Is there any way to startup the computers without opening the powerbook? Thanks

Not since the only way to start up is to press the power button... Unless you mean you want to use it in closed lid mode?
You can wake it from sleep and use it closed lid with an external keyboard or mouse.
Or if you just wish to close the lid.. for instance while watching a movie or something then it is possible to change the PMU settings via a terminal command. To prevent the reed switch from triggering sleep.
If you really mean you want to power it on... then i suggest you consider never powering it off in the first place... this may sound stupid if you are windows user and are accustomed to powering down the machine after your done with it.. but OS X is perfectly capable of running the same session for very long periods of time ... even months. Putting the machine into sleep instead of powering down is perfectly ok, it saves time and energy by not having to boot all the time... and causes no strain on your computer (less strain if you consider the boot procedure), only the memory, firmware and various other low power components in between are left on, but other than that the machine is effectively off...
however if leaving it in sleep for long periods e.g. more than a day .. make sure it's plugged in so that it doesn't run out of juice to power the memory ... otherwise youl be booting up again anyway.

  • Speakers are not recognized while in OSX 10.7.3 can't restart without power button (don't know if they are related)

I am willing to split up the two symptoms if they are not related. But I know the speakers aren't broken because I hear the Bong noise at boot, but to my misfortune I made the mistake of deleting something (important I guess) in the Audio Midi Setup (Audio Devices window). I was trying to figure out how to split audio tracks between my headphones and speakers so I could listen to music in one ear while skyping (sounds stupid I know, but I stay on Skype with a long distance coworker most of the day). I guess some 17 hours ago when the failure happened I found on Google that there were sound settings in the Audio Midi Setup and had the great idea to go clicking around in there. Somehow deleted the black option thing (only got a quick look) when my computer lagged and then no more sound... I've been trying to fix it with stuff I found on google but I think I made it worse because now my macbook hangs on a black screen during the shutdown process when I choose to restart from the Apple Menu up there in the top left of my screen. I'm out of Ideas, I've tried clearing P & V rams or whatever several times and gone through almost every post on these forums and google that I can find that have any words relevant to what is the problem. After 15 hours of trying on my own I thought I'd ask for help.
Any additional info I can provide let me know please.
    Thank you.

I started having connectivity issues to my 10.6.8 server from my 10.7 client immediately after updating the client to 10.7.3. FWIW. Takes forever to connect, when it does. After just milliconds before.

  • Where can I get the power plug for my new mac graphics card?

I bought a new graphics card and am just now installing it, but I need the mini PCI-e power cord to PCI-e cord to power the card? Where can I get that cord?

If you buy the 5770 from Apple as an upgrade kit it has the cable(s) - two for the 5870, one for 5770.
If you bought a mac pro mid-2010 it may very well have come with cable(s), that I have never read or heard from others.
OWC has not always inicluded cables but has charged extra, as they did with eVGA GTX285 where Apple sold with cables, and buying from OWC added another $30? or more to the cost with cables "extra" is what I recall.

  • SatelliteU300 Won't start with AC power connected and fully charged battery

I just bought a U300-13U. It works great when battery is charging and AC is connected. However if left to charge up fully it won't start with AC connected. Unpluging the power or removing the battery and running on AC makes it work fine. Is this a 'feature' to stop overcharging or overheating the battery, or just a problem with this machine. I want to run with AC and battery both connected all the time as I have done with all my other laptops.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello Andy
Friend of mine has this small U300 and everything work well. I have had it few weeks ago to test WXp installation and it works perfectly.
Please test it again very carefully and if the same happen again I recommend you to contact Authorized service partner in your country. Let them check your notebook. I must be honest and say that described issue sounds strange to me and please do not wait too long. Contact service as soon as possible.
    Bye and good luck!
