Can't stop IPhoto from opening at start-up

When I start-up IPhoto overrides everything, and becomes the defacto start-up application. Any ideas on what I can do to stop it?

Many months ago when I was using Leopard I had the same problem and found that the issue was in Image Capture. Since then I upgraded to Snow Leopard however here is what I think I did to resolve the issue:
1. Command Spacebar, then type Image Capture to launch the app
2. At the lower you will see the an upside triangle inside a box, click on that. If you see iPhoto chosen as a start up item then delete it and that should resolve the problem.
NOTE: I just tried to replicate this in SL however I see the box indicated in step 2 is now gone.
Please let us know if that helps.

    OMG this is maddening.
    I am a photograher.
I shoot tethered to a MBP in lightroom through a Canon 5D Mark III; I recently upgraded to YOSEMITE.
Every lovingtime I plug the camera in to the MBP, IPHOTO starts, reads the contents of my 16GB card which of course takes time, during a photoshoot, and then want to import 500+ images- I of course cancel or close the window down. But in the event I have to reconnect the camera or restart something- I get the annoying  IPHOTO program doing the same ^&$&^% again.....it does it on my MAC MINI in my office when I bring the images home for editing...
The fact that the iphoto window is buried under another window and I can't &^%&^*$  figure out what is holding up my work flow while still looking composed in front of clients is MADDENING.
THIS IS CRAZY,,, How can I stop it

There are two places you can set iPhoto to not open when a camera is connected:
    1 - iPhoto's General preference pane:
2 - (if iPhoto continues to open after #1) - with the camera connected to your Mac launch Image Capture and in the lower left hand corner of the widow set No Application in the dropdown menu provided:

How to stop iPhoto from opening each time I add a photo using Yosemite

    Add image to iPhoto Library
From where.  I don't think you can keep it mininmized when importing because if it runs into a duplicate it will present a warning window for you to make a decision in. Therefore, it will always be open when importing.

  • How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.

iPhoto has detected faces of people I dont know, in my 'iPhoto faces' whenever I click the cross in the corner of the face (when sorting faces) the face temporarily disappears, but once I have uploaded a fresh batch of photos (and want to identify new faces) it automatically re-identifies the old photos that I don't want to have to sort again. How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.

Thank you, that makes sense (I think!) However, I need to be able to tell iPhoto who the people identified in my photos are, does that make sense? How do I identify the people in my new photos without clicking 'find faces'. I know that button searches through my photos to find faces, but it also gets me to the place where I identify the faces as my friends and family, is there a shortcut to get to that place without clicking 'find faces'? That is what I really need, please help!!

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me.  After all, iPhoto is the application that opens.  You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

How can I stop ID from opening docs in full screen in ID 5.5?

You didn't answer the OS question, but I'm going to presume it's some version of OS X. This has been, I think, a common complaint among Mac users, but as a PC person I don't remember what exactly can be done about it, if anything. On thing you might want to try is using the Application Frame.

  • Can I stop iPhoto from automatically mounting the iPhone, When iPhoto open?

I use other software to grab my photos, and I use the import option to put my pictures into iPhoto. I also like to keep a lot of photos on my iPhone and whilst browsing my iPhoto library (it's always opened at startup) sometimes I want to charge the iPhone, or sync iTunes etc - it takes me away from my library I was half way through arranging and then I have to wait whilst it shows me the photos again. I can right click and unmount, but later on it comes back - I have to exit or unplug. Both of which I don't want to do. I don't want it to appear in iPhoto under devices unless I say so. It's an unwanted hassle.
Apart from that, I am happy with it!

open iPhoto (or image capture) and the preferences set action when camera is connected to do nothing (or to open your selected program) to stop iPhoto from being launched when you connect your iPhone

  • How can I stop Firefox from opening (to "File Not Found") when opening my Opera browser?

Ever since I installed Opera 10.61 on my new computer (Windows 7 Ultimate operating system), whenever I open Opera, Firefox opens one second later with the following error message:
    '''File not found '''
Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Users/Nasheed/AppData/Local/Opera/Opera/temporary_downloads/client-en.xml.
    * Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
    * Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
    TRY AGAIN.

This happens EVERY TIME I OPEN THE OPERA BROWSER. How can I stop this from happening? I'm stumped.
[EXTRA INFO - I was unable to enable Firefox to access my previous profile on the new computer (despite putting the old profile in the appropriate Mozilla Firefox folder. So, there are now two profiles in that location.
After reading the answer to another forum member's question, I attempted to resolve the problem using Profile Manager, but I was unable to locate the Profile Manager. The Windows "Search" feature is not enabled on my new computer (nor can it be enabled from the Customize Start Menu options).]

Thank you for your response, Cor-el.
I had Opera set as my default browser since this began happening. I changed my default browser back to Firefox mainly because having Firefox open one or two seconds every time I open Opera was/is such a nuisance.
I believe this problem began because I attempted to manually transfer the files from my old computer to the new one (via the backed up files in my external drive). I was unfamiliar with Windows 7 when I did this. Microsoft changed the file set up from what I had been used to in Windows XP. I used XP for six years before being exposed to Windows 7 (I never had Vista).
I'm almost sure this problem has something to do with where I placed the application data when I was trying to reestablish the program set up on the new computer.

  • How can I keep iPhoto from opening?

I'm currently using iPhoto v5.0.4 and Panther 10.3.9, and am fairly new to both. My question is how can I get iPhoto to stop automatically opening and loading my photos into it when I insert my memory stick into the card reader attached to my Mac mini via USB? I want to just load the photos onto my HD, and not into iPhoto.
I've looked at the iPhoto preferences and can't find anything to turn off the automatic opening up of the application.
If I can't stop if from doing that, how can I copy the photos in iPhoto to a separate file on the HD?
    Thanks,
    Esther

Oh wow! Worked like a charm. I never would have figured that out. Thanks!
If you have time, could I ask you another question? If I've gotten the photos onto my HD, and decide I want to copy them into iPhoto so I'll have them in both places, how do I do that?
    Thanks,
    Esther

  • Can't stop applications from opening automatically at login

A few months ago I tried the "open at login" feature for 4 of the applications in my dock. I have decided it is more of a hassle than it's worth and unchecked "open at login." That didn't stop them from opening automatically. I went into Accounts and made sure the "Login Items" tab was empty. That also didn't work. I even added the programs into the tab, restarted and deleted them. I searched the Apple website and read that you can bypass applications launching automatically by holding shift at the blue screen on startup and then again after typing the password. I set the computer to not login automatically and hold shift every time I start the computer up. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. Is there a way to stop them from opening without having to log in every time? Thank you.

go to the directory homedirectory/library/preferences and delete the files loginwindow.plist and com.apple.loginitems.plist. Then log out/in normally. nothing should start up by itself.
