Can't stop random safari pop-up/wordpress widget

I am using a 2009 iMac running Mavericks. This problem happens several times daily. If I'm using Safari, a tab pops up and a web page is displayed, all blank white except for the message "no hotlinking please." If I'm not using Safari, Safari opens up and displays this. I don't even know what it means! The title in the tab says "wordpress.com widget"
I was unable to post the screenshot due to content, but I found one someone else posted to Yahoo Answers here.

Why is this happening? How do I stop this from happening?

This procedure will reset your Dashboard configuration to the default.
Back up all data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
defaults delete com.apple.dashboard layer-gadgets && killall Dock
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

• How can I stop those anoying pop-up ad's that pop-up as I move my cursor around the web-page?

How can I stop those annoying little ad's that pop up as I move my cursor around the web page, seems like anything that is highlighted in green will trigger it? Seems it just started happening with the new version of Firefox.

hello hamguy, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware/malware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

• How can I stop the login pop-up box for iCloud from repeating?

I don't use iCloud so I click Cancel in the iCloud login box when I start up my iPad Mini. But this popup box won't take Cancel for an answer and it reappears at least three more times, every 10-15 seconds or so, interrupting what I'm doing - really annoying. Can I stop this pop-up box from repeating like this, and if so, how?

Ah ok that all makes sense. You are correct that would turn off Find my iPhone. Based off the additional info you provided, it seems to me that the password needs to be updated. What I recommend doing next is entering the password when it prompts you to. If the password is incorrect in the settings then Find my iPhone may not be able to find the phone because it does not have the password authenticated.
Then you can turn off any iCloud features you choose not to use with this article and leave only Find my iPhone enabled.

• How can I stop random photos showing up in photo stream?

I keep getting photos of houses and pictures of women in my photo stream!
My iPod Touch is 4th generation and it's secondhand.
I have just deleted like at least 100 photos that I never took.
How can I stop the photos from being synced into my iPod?

Turn off PhotoStream.
There are three ways that photos can get into your PhotoStream:
- You take photos with your camera or save photos like email attachment on the iPod
- You are sharing someone else's PhtooStream. Go to Settings>iCloud>PhotoStream>Shared PhotoSteams
- You are adding photos to the folder on your computer that you have associated with PhotoStream.Go to your iCloud control panel on your computer and turn off PhotoStream

• How can I stop random audio advertising files from playing?

Recently, my Macbook Pro has been playing random audio files. They are mostly advertisments about mucus medicine and news clips about soccer. Yesterday, I discovered that when I quit Safari, the audio stops. Today the problem is back again. What can I do to get rid of these annoying ads?

Safari > Preferences > Security
Make sure that "Block pop-up windows" is enabled.
Temporarily disable the plug-ins
Safari > Preferences > Security > Web content: Enable plug-ins
If the audio is from Flash based ads it should stop.
Re-enable that feature later.
Best.

• How can I stop the Firefox pop-up update nag?

I have pop-ups blocked but can find no way to stop this Firefox message. It doesn't happen every time I login but frequently enough to be annoying..
BTW I went back to FF 7 because FF 8 was slowing loading web pages to snails pace - 2 mins or more to load a page!!

• How can I stop App Store pop-ups every time I use my iPhone?

It seems like every time I turn on my iPhone 4S lately, there is a window asking me if I would like to go to the App Store. I have to click "OK" or "Cancel" before I can use the iPhone. Extremely annoying.

Actually, now that it's happened again (several times) I see that it actually says "iTunes store", not "App Store".

• How can I stop the 'Confirm' pop-up on my Facebook gifts page? Everytime I try to accept a gift, it asks me to press OK to continue to another page, or cancel to stay on the page. When I press OK, it cancels the gift out instead of accepting it.

Sometimes it lets a gift through , but mostly it just erases my gifts on the same page.

This issue can be caused gadgets on the Facebook page.
You will have to check that out by removing each of them until you find the culprit.
• How can I stop a persistent pop up from "stopmalwaresite" from ruining my browsing sessions. I run adaware and malwarebytes every morning before I do anything else and no malicious objects are found.

This has started only in the past week or so and is so irritating that I am tempted to give up emails altogether.

That type of behaviour is indicative of malware. Try running some other malware scanners, they may pick up things that the ones you have tried miss. Some scanners you can try are:
* [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
* [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
* [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]

• How can I stop random shut downs on my MBP?

15" MacBook Pro - late 2007
Mac OS 10.7.3
2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB
I've been getting random shut downs for several weeks. It basically is like a power failure: straight to black, no warning, no reboot. Sometimes a very short beep/buzz occurs right as it dies. It seems to happen when I'm moving, holding, or have my hands resting on the computer, but not always. I've done the SMC and PRAM resets. I did a clean install of Lion. I just put in a new battery. I'm starting to think that it has to be the motherboard. Any suggestions or ideas?
Oh, and the error in the console is always the same: "kernel: Previous Shutdown Cause: -2."

I did not run the extended test, but I did take it into the Apple Store and they could not duplicate the problem. They told me they ran hardware tests on my software as well as their own and it never happened.
