Can''t Stop Repeating iCal Event Alert!

I am receiving repeating text messages for two iCal events. I can't make them stop. They are being resent over and over again. Well over 100 times today. I've deleted the events from both the iPhone and iCal on the computer the iPhone syncs to. Nothing makes them stop. Help!

Taking one for the team and on the phone with AppleCare right now. I'll try to take good enough notes to post back here. If nothing else, I'll see if I can post the support notes as documented by the rep as soon as it's published:
On the phone with second person who is taking notes before transfering me to a third. While I'm waiting, thought I'd share what the first person had me do.Note that this did NOT fix this or any of what I suspect are Finder issues but it can help with some system wide glitches. In any case, it can't hurt:
Reset PRAM. This is easy.
1. Shut down your computer completely.
2. Turn it back on and immediately, hold down the Control, Option, P and R keys.
3. You will hear the usual chime.
4. Keep holding them down until you hear it chime a second time and then let go.

Lion 10.7.2 On both mac book pro and iMac, both with Lion 10.7.2, obtain repeated iCal event notifications from calendar or address book.  Cannot turn these off.  They repeat several times per session and every time computer is used.  How to diagnose this?

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I can't drag my ical events over to the reminders list (that's not there anymore) like I used to be able to do. Why?

What version of iphoto? If it's iPhoto 11:
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?
    Iphoto 09 or earlier
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window +should+ open with the file selected. Does it?

  • Revert to prior program after an iCal event alert.

Is there a setting available for the iPod Touch to automatically revert back to the program being used before an interruption from an iCal event alert?

I have a Logitech app that turns my iPod Touch into a mouse for my G5. It is very nice. However if I get an alert from iCal and I need to go into iCal to reschedule I have to exit iCal then re-launch the Logitech app. I have not tried ignoring the alert yet. It would be preferable to enter iChat then get back to the Logitech app without having to re-launch it.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • How can I get my ical events from my iMac to my iPhone? Anything I entered into ical on my iPhone will transfer to ical on iMac when plugged in, but not vice versa.

How can I get my ical events from my iMac to my iPhone? Anything I entered into ical on my iPhone will transfer to ical on iMac when plugged in, but not vice versa. I think I have changed my iPhone (after looking at similar questions) to iCloud, but it's still not syncing.

You need to sign into your iCloud account on your Mac, and check the Calendar option. System Preferences>iCloud, sign on your iCloud account, check the apps you want to sync with your device.

  • How can I stop Exchange calendar event copies appearing in drafts?

I use Outlook 2010 on a Windows machine at work. On my MacBook I use Outlook 2011 and have the Exchange calendar configured for iCal. Sync'ing works fine, except this one annoyance.
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion copies of existing, repeating calendar events keep appearing in my Outlook drafts folder. Every few days I have to empty it, sometimes from 50 event copies or more.

I too, was experiencing this. There seems to be no indication of a solution anywhere on the web. HOWEVER, I figured it out.
Here's the solution: Strangely, it's not really an exchange issue, but rather an issue with calendaring on the OSX side.
So you understand, here's the configuration that can cause problems:
you are using an exchange server to connect your email/calendar/notes/tasks...
You use a PC (or VM PC) for some/most of your exchange/outlook activities
You may or may not have MS Office 2011 (Mac) installed.
You have one or more Apple devices connected to your exchange account (iPhone, iPad, any Mac)
After installing Mountain lion, you start noticing events being magically duplicated every few minutes in your outlook draft folder. If you delete an event, another one takes its place.
    HERE IS THE FIX:
Short answer: Sync all calendars on all devices
On the apple side (OSX, IOS) you MUST turn on calendar sync in all the exchange accounts on all your devices. I thought I had, then discovered that my MS Office Outlook on my Mac was missing that sync. It doesn't seem to matter which apple device is missing the sync, it only takes one of them. Once you set calendar sync to "on" for all the apple devices that access that calendar, just like magic, the phantom multi event creation stops.
You should check all MS products on the OSX/IOS devices AND all apple devices that allow syncing. I haven't turned on notes sync through the cloud, so that isn't one of the items that cause problems.
If you do this and the multi still appears, you missed something on one of your apple devices.
    Sweet!

  • Repeating iCal Events Based on Other Events

Basically, I'm working on something that involves a non-standard calendar that has repeating monthly events. My hope was if I could put in the first day of each "month", I could have the rest of the events populate themselves by repeating based on that first event.
I'm guessing there's no way to have such a complex repeating scheme. I certainly can't see one in iCal. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

I think any answer that works for rbdbk would probably work for me, too.
In my case, the problem is monthly events based on a lunar calendar. I want to be able to put in the start of the lunar month, then have events - which may fall on the seventh day of the month, or second Saturday of the month, etc. - copy themselves for each month.
Essentially, events that repeat their timing based on previously entered events.

  • Ical synch: how can i stop deleting ical items and synch the rest?

When synching on itunes, it asks to delete 9000+ items from ical, add and modify are 50 or so each, and I'm very confused why this is happening.
How can i stop this and synch the rest? I do not want to delete anything but it doesn't seem to have option other than synch later.
I have icloud calendars synch on as well...
    Thanks!!

    Bruno,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are you using any sync software?
The easiest thing to try is to refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart, and make sure the deletion preference is not checked.

  • ICal event alerts won't stop repeating

After the update to Lion 10.7.3, I get hourly repeating alerts from iCal. I've dismissed them but they keep on coming. And the list of the alerts keeps expanding each day. iCal is also repeating past alerts in the list. In addition, the alerts pop up with the Submarine sound, which I also cannot turn off. Needless to say, these hourly interruptions are very annoying. I've applied the Combo Update to try to fix the problem and looked for a solution in iCal and in the system but there isn't anything showing that tells me how to stop the issue.
Imagine trying to record audio and have one of these alerts pop up, as I have experienced. Not only does it cause a glitch in the recording, it also adds the sound to it. I turned off Alerts in the Sound preferences and that didn't help.
There seems to be no discussions with this problem recently.

  • No notification for missed iCal event/alerts in Mountain Lion?

Anyone else having an annoying issue in Mountain Lion whereby iCal alerts are not showing for events that have been missed/triggered while their Mac is either asleep or occured within the timeframe while the PC is shutdown? No alerts are shown for these event following starting up the machine or resuming from sleep which they defnitiely used to do with Lion. Notification Center only seems to show future events or those occuring "now" (by design?) so right now for myself the only way to know if I have missed something is to trawl back through my days events etc manually.
I've done quite a bit of searching and found only a couple of related references on the web so it does not look widespread but any ideas as to a fix would be greatly appreciated. Upgraded from Lion to ML on a 2011 MacBook Air 11" so nothing unusual etc.
    Cheers

Yes.  I have ML 10.8.2 on a 2009 macbook pro.  The Apple store genius was no help.
If I happen to be using my machine at the time, I'll see an alert in the upper right screen the correct amount of time before the item start.  My choices are to close or snooze.
In the prior os, I could select from a number of snooze options and be reminded indefinitely.  Now snooze will remind by default in 15 minutes even if the item starts the next day.  Repeatedly snoozing in 15 minute intervals is dumb.  Plus, if my machine is asleep, the alert will disappear at some point anyway.
If I do nothing, the alert counts down to the start time, displays 'now', and then disappears from the screen and notifications at the end time.  Yet system preferences says notification alerts stay on the screen until dismissed.  So even when my machine is awake, alerts still aren't persistent.  Maybe it's a power nap and app issue as well?  I sure won't regress os-wise.  It took me weeks to recover from the last upgrade and compile a list of everytihing that went south.
I've gone low tech and keep a stack of old business cards on my desk.  The backs contain all the appointments, events, and tasks I need to remember in chronological order.  If an item can be postponed, I move the card to a second stack - my equivalent of indefinite snoozing while keeping the item in front of me.  Periodically, I shuffle through this stack to see what I want to move to the top or act on.  I'd try google calendar except from what I read on forums syncing between these apps is also problematic.

  • How can I make new iCal events default to 1 hour long?

Please help me love my iCal again.  How can I set it up so that the default for a new event is an hour long instead of EIGHT?!?  Why on earth does iCal think a new event should be eight hours long?  It's especially annoying at night.  Add a new event at 9PM and iCal sets an end for 5AM and rolls it into the next day, which means I have to change the end time and change the end date every time I add a new event.
Seriously, who designed this thing?  Here's a perfect example of bad design (which, coming from Apple is shocking!): In the menu, click New Event.  Does iCal create a new event?  No.  It draws a box arrow pointing to the big plus sign.  Are we sure Microsoft didn't design this thing?
I'm a diehard Mac Guy for over 17 years.  But I must say, I'm disappointed with some aspects of Lion.  Yikes.  (sorry...  I needed to vent!)

I probably should have noted that I'm using iCal in the month view.  Maybe that's why my iCal thinks every new event is eight hours long?  The previous iCal didn't behave this way.
And, yes, a menu item titled New Event that opens a box where I can create a new event rather than actually creating a New Event is bad design.  It adds extra steps.  It feels like a Microsoft thing where you click on something and then get asked if that's really what you wanted to do.  When I click New Event, I want a new event to open so I can input the details including calenrar, alarm, repeating data, notes, etc.  Sure, if I wanted a quick option, I'd go for the + sign to add one.  But when it comes to having to change calendars or add extra info, making me go through extra steps is poor design.
There's a lot to like in the new iCal, but pushing the app away from design simplicity for VISUAL simplicity is poor design for a desktop OS app.  On a three inch screen like the iPhone, it makes perfect sense.  It's brilliant, in fact.  But on a desktop OS?  I completely understand the idea of merging iOS with OS X, but a motorcycle is not a tractor trailer even though they both have engines.  To treat them as such is poor design.
Another example: in iCal, it's easy to hide calendars you may not need to see.  That's a great feature.  In the previous iCal, there was a pane that showed which calendars were visible and which were not.  Now, if you're looking at a month, you have no way of seeing that there may also be more events that are hidden without clicking the calendars for a popup to display which are visible and which are not.  I'm no Mac basher.  I have a series of the black & white "Think Different" prints framed and hanging on my walls.  I love Apple, but the new iCal is poor design.

  • How can non-visible orphan iCal events be deleted?

Bear with me, this is going to sound very confusing.
I have reported this via the iCal feedback on Apple's Product Feedback main page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
but nothing has changed (not surprising, but more on that later).
My wife publishes her calendar from her computer to MobileMe via iCal (version 3.0.8 on OS X 10.5.8). I subscribe to it on my computer via iCal (version 4.0 on OS X 10.6.1). In her iCal and my iCal, all appears OK. But when I view her published calendar in a web browser (right-click in iCal to "Show Calendar on MobileMe") two orphan all-day events appear (one on 20 October and one on 27 October). And since her calendar appears in my iCal, her calendar appears on my iPhone (OS 3.1.2) AND those two orphan events appear on the iPhone. When the wife logs into her MobileMe account via the web interface and views her calendar, the two orphan events DO NOT appear. Since the two events do not appear to her she can not delete them. But they are cluttering up my iPhone calendar display!
    To recap:
    The two orphan events appear:
    - on my iPhone in the Calendar app
    - via a web browser on my Mac
The two orphan events DO NOT appear:
    - on wife's iCal
    - on wife's MobileMe account
    - my iCal via subscription to wife's calendar
The wife did a Sync reset. No change. She unpublished her calendar and I unsubscribed. After waiting 3 days, she published her calendar again, I then re-subscribed. The two orphan events re-appeared but can't be deleted since they don't appear in her iCal or MobileMe account.
    So, there are two questions:
    1. How does she delete these orphan events since she can not see them?
    2. How does my iPhone get them since they don't appear in my iCal and why do they appear via a web browser if they don't appear for her?
I mentioned earlier that I've reported this via Apple's feedback page. I have reported many iCal publish and subscribe problems over the past year. But I have decided that no one at Apple actually ever sees this feedback. Why do I think that? Because, not only have I reported problems with the application, I have also reported problems with the feedback page itself. For example, the latest version of iCal shown on the page is 3.0. How long has 4.0 been out? Also, the page still references ".Mac". Huh? Gee, I thought that was re-branded to MobileMe a long time ago. Since Apple has not updated the feedback page, no one at Apple must be monitoring feedback submitted via those pages, or perhaps they just don't care anymore about their Product Feedback pages. At least, that is the impression they give.
Thanks for the time and any suggestions on how to get the two orphan events to go away. --Mike

    Wish I could help.
Instead, I'll simply let you know that you are not alone. The only difference is that I have an orphan calendar that appears on my iPhone.
Said calendar does NOT appear in iCal on my MBP NOR does it appear in Mobile Me.
I do not sync via iTunes.
I would LOVE to know how to delete it as it creates duplicate events for me.

  • Can't delete an ical event

i schedule an event in ical to "never" expire. i had set the event to remind me everyday until i had performed the task. once i was ready to delete the event it would not let me. what would happen is it would let me delete the evet but would show back up in 3 to 4 seconds. i've tried changing the end date and that didn't help, it would default back to the original setting.
however, i can delete them one at a time, that does work, however i need the "delete all future events" to work. any suggestions?
    thanks

  • How Can I Batch Separate iCal Events Into Separate Calendars?

    iMac G4
    10.4.11
Six months ago I transferred 21,000 calendar items from Chronos Personal Organizer 4.5.0 to iCal. Except for the snail crawl speed, I am very pleased with iCal. CPO operated very quickly with the same 21,000 calendar items. I hope to solve the poor-speed issue by purchasing a new Intel iMac later this year. Fingers crossed.
The transfer process deposited all 21,000 calendar items into a single calendar named "Kurt". Last week I renamed this calendar to "Kurt - Home". I created a new calendar that is named "Kurt - Work". I transferred all of my work specific calendar events from "Kurt - Home" to "Kurt - Work" for the past six months. I accomplished this by clicking on each calendar event, and then clicking on the calendar pulldown menu and selecting "Kurt - Work". Is there a way that I can select multiple calendar events simultaneously, and then transfer them to "Kurt - Work" in one click?
    Thank you.
