Can't stream iTunes (Home Sharing) to iPhone 6

I have a shiny new iPhone 6 64 GB, and iTunes 12.0.1 running on a Win 8.1 box.  I'm trying to connect my iPhone to my iTunes library via Home Sharing in the Music app.  My iTunes library appears in the list of shared libraries, but the app stalls when I try to connect to this share.  The pinwheel/progress indicator gets to about 10-50% (it varies widely) before it stops altogether.
I've tried disabling Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, but neither make a difference.  Is there a router setting I need to tweak?  Is there a library size limitation?  The library I'm trying to stream from is about 350 GB.
Thanks,
P

Hi Paddy McGee,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
If the Music app is becoming unresponsive when connecting to your PC iTunes library over Home Sharing, the troubleshooting steps in this article may help:

  • Issues with iTunes Home Sharing using iPhone 6 Plus

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with streaming music and video on my iPhone 6 plus from my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model) using iTunes' Home Sharing . I am able to stream without any issues using my iPhone 4S and my Apple TV, however.
I am using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, iOS 8.1.2, and OSX 10.9.5.
Using my 6 plus, I am able to connect to my iTunes library, both music and video. Album art shows up for music but no cover art for the videos. So, all in all, I am able to see the contents of my library.
However, when I try to play songs, a couple things may happen. First, nothing plays for about 10 seconds; then a second or two of the song plays followed by silence again, appearing as if it's buffering. Second thing that may happen is that a second or two plays immediately followed by silence. If I press next to play the next song, what usually happens is that nothing plays, although the song title does appear.
As seen in this video, I don't have any issues with my WIFI connection or internet speed, as demonstrated using the iPhone 4S and Apple TV.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.
Hopefully someone could shed some light with this issue. Please feel free to comment. I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions while Apple tries to find a solution. Thanks.

    UPDATE
So, after working with the guys at Apple, they were able to provide a solution.  Now I have no problems using Home Sharing with my iPhone 6 Plus!!!
(I should add that I have the Linksys Advanced Dual-Band N Router (E2500))
The issue was fixed by giving one of the wi-fi channels a different name, thus splitting the channels into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  Then, I connected my iPhone to one channel (2.4 GHz) and my MacBook Pro to the other channel (5GHz).  In this configuration, I have had no issues streaming my music and video.
It seems that the problem is some kind of interference between both devices when using the same channel (i.e., when both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channel share the same name).

  • Can't get iTunes "Home Sharing" to work...

Before we switched to FIOS, we had Comcast and the Home Sharing on iTunes worked fine.  Now, some setting must be different because I can't get the libraries from 2 different computers to "talk" to each other.  I have all the settings in iTunes correct, but each doesn't "show up" on the other's network.
    Any suggestions?

Log into the router and select the Advanced settings.  There's a item to dump the router configuration on that screen -- it'll download a file to your PC-- you can just open it with Notepad is it's just a text file.

  • Can only stream in home sharing!!??

No "import" or "settings" buttons available in the lower right hand corner of itunes as stated in the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
even after shared content has been selected. Drag and drop will not work either. No way to import songs from one shared computer to another at this point, only stream. All computers are home share enabled on the same itunes account. Help appreciated. Thanks!

  • HT202213 I have a new computer we set up with itunes home sharing. Can I add music to this new computer sync my iphone and ipod to it instead of the original computer. I'm not sure if it makes a difference if I have a different apple id than with our orig

I have a new computer that we set up with itunes home sharing and I need some assistance. I also have my own apple id and would like to make the new computer the one I use for my music. Should I set up a whole new itunes library/account or still work with the home sharing?

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

can't sign in in to iTunes (home sharing) after reset and update apple tv3

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Netflix, Youtube and everything else works perfectly, but I'm unable to wirelessly stream anything from my Mac, iPad, or iPhone. All on same wireless channel, all new updates, all have home sharing turned on. Never had a problem the last 2 years.

    Hi,
I tried everythink, but same as before!
    - droppings ot the main screen
    - loosing Home Share
    now even on iPads !
    Frustrating!
I'm now more than convinced that this is caused by the latest iTunes version.
As some others stated in other threads .... it seems that Apple doesn't really take care of this problem. So what if, if we could make them feeling the same pain as we do. ... Just by dropping them a mail as soon as we have the problem again. Not more often, we don't want to be unfair, but everytime it happens.
I found this feedback site http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I will start now with this.... maybe this will help to rise a little bit of attention
    Tweety
This is the mailbody I always use
    Hello all,
Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads has two major problems:
    - Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
    - streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
    - iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
    - second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
    - third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
    - fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
    - all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
    - 2 Apple TV second generation
    - 1 Apple TV first generation
    - 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
    - 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.
Thanks for every effort in advanced.

  • HT1338 Can't turn on home sharing in iTunes

I have Lion and can't turn on Home Sharing.  I get an error message 5506.  I have a verified Apple ID and password

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You would only need homesharing on your iPad if you want to use the remote app (which is quite handy actually). To be able to use the iPad with the Apple TV, you use AirPlay, but the iPad won't show up in a list on the Apple TV, you send content from the iPad itself.
Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

  • ITunes Home Sharing not showing up on my iPhone 4

I have enable Home Sharing on iTunes on my Mac, I have also enabled it on my iPhone settings by entering my apple id and password -- However, when I go into the ipod on the iphone, in the "more" section, it doesn't show "shared". I've sync my phone over and over as well as reset it and still nada.
Could you please tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

On my Verizon iPhone the "more" section, it doesn't show "shared". I've rebooted, system update for iTunes, Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro 2008
I can see Home Sharing in my iTunes list: while on the MBP I can see my iMac i5 27"... but no Home Sharing on iPhone/iPod/more...
I manually sync my music on my iPhone from my MacBook Pro, which does not have my new music on it. But all I can do to get the new songs onto the iPhone is to use Home Sharing to make DUPLICATES on the Macbook Pro of the songs that are on the iMac. I dont' want dupes. I don't want all my songs on my Laptop. I want all my songs on my iMac which has a huge new empty harddrive.
I wouldn't mind if it is Apple working through some glitches and it will work in a few days/weeks, especially if Apple posted some message. I hate wasting time thinking I'm troubleshooting wrong, only to give up hours later, since I see others also have this problem.

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!
