Can't stream to multiple speakers.
Just got a second Airport Express for my birthday and I connected it to my network. When I try to stream to more than one base station it says that neither supports playback as part of a group. I can do my computer's speakers and either base station; just not both base stations at the same time. Where is that setting?

At the bottom of itunes there is a little menu that will have your wireless network name in it. If you click on that you should see multiple speakers.
If you click on multiple speakers you will be able to select the ones you want to use.

Airport Express (error -3256) trying to stream to multiple speakers
I have an iMac and have set up a network on airport extreme. Set up airport express to stream airtunes only and had no problem yesterday going to both computer and the speakers connected to airport express. Today, connected my windows laptops to the network with no problem using LinkSys wireless USB, but when I tried to stream music to computer and airport express both I got the error it seems many others have -- unknown error (-3256) and it will only now stream to one of the 2 locations (either computer or airport express, but not both at once) at a time. However, from iTunes from my windows laptop PC (I have version 7.0.2 on my PC, and just purchased my 1st iMac) I COULD stream to BOTH !! Now even when I disconnect the laptop PC's from my wireless network I get the same error. Some setting somewhere must have changed. I spent an hour on with Apple support and we looked at firewall, reinstalled iTunes, hard reset the Airport express and rejoined the wireless network, none of it worked. Since the PC laptop can stream to both, it must be the op system or some setting on my Mac.....shouldn't be the router.....should it? I am supposed to talk to Apple tomorrow and get the problem escalated when the hold times come down a bit, so if I can I will answer my question on this board, because I have seen similar issues that aren't solved yet (unless it was the firewall issue which didn't work for me).
Anyone who can help, please do. Or even suggest a course of action (maybe it is something with router? but then why did my PC laptop stream to both, or iTunes or Leopard?)......I have tried many of the obvious fixes on the phone with support. Thanks all.The problem is simple, the Apple firewall is blocking UDP and the only workaround is to completely open it up ( Arrrgh! I hear you shout). "SysPrefs" -> "Security" -> "Firewall" -> "Allow all incoming connections" is the way to do it... horrible I know!!
Hopefully Apple will put a little more attention into making sure that the firewall provides adequate protection without impairing AirTunes functionality.
Have fun opening your network to the world... by the way I have leopard 10.5.1 not the 10.4.6 quoted below... have to update profile.

ITunes 8.01, Error -15000 can not stream to Remote Speakers
Hello,
I need some help on this error which started to appear with iTunes 8.
The error is the -15000 and I can not play music via my AppleTV (remote speakers)
I have just installed iTunes 8.01.
and instead of solving the problem, it now actually says hat the firewall is set wrongly. (must have been a Genius who came up with that idea)
Question: what are the correct firewall setting ?

What Firewall settings do you have selected in System Preferences> Security> Firewall?
Are you using any other security software like 3rd party firewall software?
Also, does this happen in another user account?

Can itunes stream music to separate speakers in one room and apple TV?
I was thinking about getting an apple TV and one question I have is whether it's possible to stream music from my imac to speakers/airport in the living room as well as to apple TV/tv speakers in another room? A second question to this, can this all still be controlled by the iphone remote app?
Oh, if you don't want to use Airfoil, iTunes itself allows you to stream to multiple speakers, look at the left side of the bottom of the iTunes window you will see the control for the speakers, it probably says "computer" on your system, if you clik on it it should show any connected "airtunes" speakers and appleTV if yo have one.

Can't select multiple speakers in iTunes 10.3.1
Since updating to iTunes 10.3.1, I can no longer select multiple speakers (Airport Express, AppleTV) to stream music. Even though the checkbox looks clickable, it does not stay clicked.
I have a 2x2.8 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon MacPro running 10.6.8.open system preferences
open network pane
select airport in the left list
click the advanced button
go to the TCP/IP tab
set the configure IPv6 field to OFF.
click OK
click apply
now try again to connect to your remote speakers.
if this doesn't help, you may be suffering from wireless interference.
download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on, then change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those. -
Multiple Speakers on Airport Express
Hi everyone
I have recently purchased a second Airport Express so I can now stream my music to 2 different locations in my apartment. In iTunes I now have the option of streaming to Multiple Speakers. When I try to select this option only one of my Airport Express Stations will allow multple speakers to be played. I get the errors message
"....The current remote speaker Paul's Lounge does not support playback as part of a group..."
Is this due to the fact that the Airport Express is slightly olders - I didn't know there was an update to the cababilities of this model. Or can this be remedied with a firmware update of some kind.
I hope someone can help as I'd love to have music playing in my Lounge and Bedroom simultaneously.

To support multiple speakers, the AX must be running v6.3+ firmware & iTunes v6.0.2+.

I'm running itunes 7.4.2 on os 10.4.10 and have been using the multiple speakers option with my airport express for a while now.
Then yesterday, the option to stream to multiple speakers just suddenly disappeared. I have no idea what I did/what the computer did.
Earlier that day, my roommate was messing around in the airport admin utility, could he have changed something there to make this happen?
Also, at the same time as this, my ipod suddenly stopped showing any music on it (no songs, but all the memory is still being used) and my itunes said it's not recognizing the contents of my ipod
Are these things related?
WHAT'S GOING ON!?Same problem w/ regard to multiple speakers, it recognized the computer speakers & the remote one but there is no 'multiple speaker' option.
I'm using MAC OS X.4.11 & iTunes 7.5.1.

How can I get my Apple TV airplay to work from my PC. On the airplay symbol it says Multiple Peakers please choose but I cannot switch off my computer speakers and switch on my Apple TV speakers so cannot get airplay to work from my PC. Everything is OK when using my Ipod touch.
Don't use Multiple Speakers option and just choose the AppleTV
What are you trying to Airplay? If it's iTunes content it's simpler to 'pull' the stream from the Computers icson on AppleTV by selecting the libarry and media.
If you are attempting to Airplay the desktop you can't. -

THERE IS NOT WAY TO PLAY iTUNES THROUGH MULTIPLE SPEAKERS. NO MATTER HOW MANY AIRPORT EXPRESS' YOU HAVE YOU CAN ONLY PLAY THROUGH ONE AT A TIME!!!
unless somebody can prove me wrong - which would be really helpful to the thousands of us who would like to be able to do so.
If it is possible, you'd think this would be a great selling point for Apple, so why wouldn't they want people to know how to do it...easily?It is possible...
You need to be running Airport Express Firmware 6.3 and iTunes 6.0.2 or later.

How can I use airplay with multiple speakers from my iPod?
I recently purchased a bluetooth wireless speaker in hopes that, while the ipod is docked on a speaker system, I can listen to my music from both set of speakers. Is there anyway to use multiple speakers with my ipod through the airplay system or an app that I can download to enhance my music listening experience?
Based on previous discussions, You can only AiPlay to one set of speakers.

Speakers on the other wall and connected to APXpress.To be honest the times we've wanted to have music from more than one set of speakers, I've usually used my mac's iTunes library and controlled it either from the mac or from my phone, since they're not really the times we have any TV on anyway. I've tested AirTunes from the Apple TV but can't recall whether it worked with content from a streaming library.

ok, was being thick. In the multiple speakers box in itunes I need to drag and resize the box so that I could see all the speakers I have attached, now everything is working fine.... and I'm loving it!
Would be nice if the multiple speaker box automatically resized to show everything attached.... but I'm bound to say that aren't I lol. -
Can't Select Multiple speakers for AirTunes
I have had a problem for the past few days now where i can't select to use multiple speakers when using AirTunes.
This has never happened before, and was fine after the update to iTunes 7.
Is there something i need to change / select in my AirPort preferences to make multiple speakers enabled?Do you have the latest Firmware of the AirPort Express V6.3?
There could be a problem with older versions of the firmware and the new iTunes 7. Then I would also update iTunes to the newest version 7.0.1. -
