Can't stroke Path

PS CS3
I have a path created with the pen tool. I then want to stroke the path. But there is no option to do this. Its highlighted out.
In my path palette the layer is oddly showing as - shape 1 vector mask.
Any ideas what i am doing wrong?.

You're using the shape option of the pen tool to draw a vector shape. You can stroke the shape using layer styles.
What you want is to create a path, so make sure the draw path option is selected in the pen tool options:

Can't stroke a path with any tool in PS CS3

Hi, guys, I'm on a G5 Powermac, 1,5 GB RAM, 2GHz, running OS X 10.4.11, and I just got CS3 Web Premium. I'm discovering all the little changes the hard way. In Photoshop I have found that I can't stroke a path: I draw a path with the pen tool, check all the settings to make sure the brush is at 100%, it's a brush, I'm on the correct layer, the layer is at 100%, the path is selected, etc. I click on "stroke path" in the path menu, and what I get is unusable. There is a correctly-sized dot under each anchor point, but no stroke. If I delete the path, I'm left with these dots. It occurred to me that it could be an airbrush setting issue; I've seen airbrush strokes that looked a bit like this, but they didn't fall where the anchor points are. I called Applecare about it. We went over all the settings, found nothing out of order, they came up with a workaround that I can use pro tem, but finally they requested a copy of the file I was working on, and suggested that my video board driver was out of date. Problem still there. anybody heard about it?

From everything I've been able to gather, the Dev teams for Photoshop and Illustrator don't share muchif anythingin the way of common tool coding. It sure would be nice if the vector tools in PS worked the same way, and with as many options as the AI tools, but they don't.
Quite frankly, it makes absolutely NO sense to me, from an application integration standpoint, or from a conservation of resources standpoint. But historically, I think it's because the 2 applications were created independently from each other, and there's so much legacy coding that isn't easily shared. IMHO, there are many good reasons to recommend that PS and AI be rebuilt from the ground up so that they can take advantage of a wider base of common coding. It might be a PITA early on, but it could only make things easier in the future versions.
So, no, Photoshop has never been intended to "replace" AI, no matter how many similar functions they may have.
On the other hand, from a bottom-line standpointwhy sell one app, when you can compel power users to buy 2?

Can existing images be opened in AI and "strokes" & "paths" applied to images?

An animator conferred with a client who asked that I create 20 custom cartoons for a project. The animator asked if I can illustrate using Adobe Illustrator using "strokes" and "paths". I assume I can apply strokes and paths to existing single panel black & white images that I open using AI, correct?

What you need to understand is this:
Autotracing is a cheap trick; a down & dirty workaround; a last resort. It is a sub-standard practice.
All autotracing does is try to detect edges between regions of differently colored pixels and then draw a path around the regions of contiguous same or similar color.
Yes, you can run an autotrace routine on an imported raster image. That's what the feature is for. But you could train a monkey to do that. There will be no object-based inteligence in the process, and the result will quite likely be entirely unsuitable for animation purposes. For example:
Consider your sketch of an old guy waving at Monika. Now, if you were going to animate that, what would be the most obvious piece of animation? You'd want to make the hand wave, right?
Well, in the autotraced result, that hand or forearm will not automatically be a separate object, as it needs to be in order to make that it move independent of the body.
That's just one very simple example. Your sketches are going to involve many many such instances. It's not just a matter of drawing any old paths around black regions of pixels, so long as they're vector. It's about thinking through what actually needs to be done with the vector graphic, and building it in such a way as to facilitate that.
There is no instant-gratification trick or one-click feature that is going to make a scan of a marker drawing into a properly useable vector-based graphic. It's just like anything else; you don't get something for nothing. Sorry, but you just can't go too far saying "I draw with markers on paper, and can't be bothered with having to do anything technical." If you want to provide proper vector-based drawings, you need to learn how to do it right. Otherwise, you're going to just be doing the concept art and people who do know how to turn it into something useable will have to re-create it.
If you're in such demand that you've got the steady work to proceed with that kind of head-in-the-sand mindset, more power to you. But it doesn't sound like it.
The animator could probably stick your sketches into a scanner and run an autotrace on them if that were really all he needed. He's probably rasing the question of whether you know how to rework the cartoons as vector graphics not merely so they will consist of vector paths; but so they will be vector paths that are suitable for the downstream animation purposes. Or, he may be gently breaking the news to the client that he's working with a cartoonist who isn't really up with the times, and that's going to cost time and money in the projects somewhere downstream.

Stroke path is not working PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

I am using Photoshop CS6. I am not in quickmask, I am using the essentials pallete I am creating a path not a shape, and I have a new blank layer selected. When I right click on my path, stroke path is available but it just won't do anything. I have been able to get it to work by going to my paths palette and selecting stroke path from there but that is a lot more time consuming, and well call me crazy but I would like this super expensive program to work properly. Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thank you!

I am having the same trouble with the flyout for the stroke path dialog...I do not get the Brush selection in fact I get nothing at all when I hit the stroke path option.... I have chosen my brush and then chose the pen and then drew my line and right clicked to get the flyout but when I choose stroke path I get nothing....and I am looking for this Stroke path brush selection which never comes up....ALSO I am on a blank sheet with my simple pen stroke so nothing is interfering with my choice..... Removing power lines using the Stroke path method

I watched a video created by Adobe Product Manager Brian O. Hughes titled Adobe Max: Hidden Gems in Photoshop an excellent video (see link below). I have been trying his easy method of removing power lines from an image using the pen tool and stroke path method defined as follows:
Using the pen tool create a path of the line to be removed. Making sure the brush tool is small and set at 100% opacity; click on the Spot Healing Brush making sure it is set to "content aware". Then in the path panel click "stroke path" and it removes the line.
Well I have followed these instructions several times, very simple, but it doesn't remove the line for me. I can manually shift click the start and ending point and it removes it but using the stroke command within the path panel doesn't work. I am making sure the path is active.
Any ideas why it doesn't work for me?

Hi jjMack, thanks for your response. I found my problem after realizing that I hadn't terminated my pen line. I didn't realize I had to click the end anchor point to complete the line, I thought since the line was obvious on the image that it had been created and thought I couldn't see it in the paths panel because it was so small (these old eyes aren't what they used to be). When clicking on the last anchor point it could easily be seen on the paths panel.. I just don't use the pen tool enough so I didn't realize my error. Learn something everyday. Incidentally, I had set the stroke path on the paths panel to Spot Healing Brush and only used the tools menu to confirm that content aware was selected.

This is a recently finished picture I did using the Pen tool traced on top of a sketch I
scanned. Doing a bit of research, I found out how to move the path to Illustrator giving me

This is very basic but for the time being
while you have your path selected you select in the tool panel the Stroke proxy so it is in the front then select a color either with the swatch panel or the Color Panel or the by double clicking the stroke panel to access the color picker.
You will find thyat it might be better to do this type of work in Illustrator that in Photoshop you can use Illustrators pen tool to make the paths and you can a have a stroke as you draw so you can see what ypou arre doing
here is the stroke proxy the fill proxy is the solid square for filling the path with color

AFAIK , its no. You can check the path from the show parameter command like following,

I'm in the middle of a text animation design treatment and unless my memory is completely failing I thought this was an option.
An example would be selecting all layers and being able to see all bounding boxes and animation paths while moving along the timeline.
Of course this could be quite a mess if you couldn't selectively chose which layers, its just with this current project it would be so helpful if
I could see the text beyond the canvas to aid in my animations.

I do understand shift + v " to "Show Full View Area" and shift + z to fill screen, etc.
and command + & - for zooming
what I'd like to do is selectively view, say, the text outside of the canvas as you can see the bounding box
which contains the text or object when selecting one or all layers in the layers column
I haven't used this feature in a while though I do recall using it in the past.
Any help would greatly appreciated

Import Issue : "Database error: can't get path to master" when attempting to import photos (referenced method)

Hi Everyone,
I have a NAS (Network Attached Storage) which holds my photos. I want to import them into Apple photos (but via the reference method).
I did this by going to Preferences/General and unchecking the 'Importing: Copy items to the Photo library' option.
I connect to my NAS via AFP and have mount 'Media' which is where my photos are stored.
I select the file/import option, navigate to aforementioned photo location and select the "Review for import" button
I then receive an error which states:
Unreadable File
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
Filename Reason
Filename.jpg Database Error: can't get path to master
The above error happens on multiple file types.....
However ...
If I tick the option in the preferences/general to 'Importing : Copy items to photo library" option then the file will import successfully.
I of course don't want to import the files I want them to be referenced...
Anyone else experiencing this issue????

If this is a 3rd party application, I would seek out that company and ask for an updated version compatible with 2010, then it would be a matter of simply installing it per their instructions.
Otherwise, the best course of action is to deactivate the feature from WSSv3 prior to removal. If that is no longer possible, then use
FeatureAdmin to remove the feature from within 2010.

Is there any way to make 'stroke path' a keyboard shortcut in photoshop cs6?

because it would make things easier.
It's a right click command when using the pen tool and instead of doing that every. single. time...
it would be easier to just make a keyboard short cut but im not sure how to assign shortcuts to right click commands. is this possible?

I jumped online to see if I could stroke path without the confirmation box coming up every time this does help but having to make the path with pen tool, then switch to brush with B then hit enter to stroke, then back to pen with P. Guess its about as good as I will get. I have two buttons on my intous 3 pen. i had one for stroke path and one for delete path, but it was asking to to confirm pen pressure every time. Stroke path not working in photoshop

I am trying to add a brush stroke to this path but I am unable to select stroke path

I get how to do it but no where will it let me select stroke path. No lock on layer either

OPA 10.4.1 on JBoss 6.1 - can not resolve path: plugins

Having difficulties in deploying my web-determinations.war to JBoss 6.1.
Same thing works well in OPM (Build and Debug).
PS: Getting the same error when deploying the examples provided in the OPA Java Runtime.
Any suggestions ?

Its working now, I assumed it wasn't working by looking at the logs. Accessing the rulebase "/JBossPOC/startsession/JBossPOC/" - i could see that plugin is working.
Do i need to make any other changes to remove the following warnings ?
