Can't Successfully Click on Many Tools/Options in InDesign CS6

I am a creative cloud member and I am having trouble with InDesign CS6. Outwardly, it seems to install fine, but when I start it up I am unable to click on many of the options. I can create a new document, and I can add a text box. However, when I click to change any aspect of the font, nothing happens. It is like I am not really clicking. I am able to click and use the pen and text tool, but not the move arrow tool. Interestingly, if I use the keyboard shortcut (V), I am able to switch to the move arrow. Also, I can see the pages pallet, but I can’t successfully click on any aspect of it. Likewise, I can view the layers pallet, but I can’t click the triangle next to layer 1 to open its contents. I am confident that it’s not a problem with my mouse because I can consistently click on the text tool successfully, and also because all my other programs work normally.
I am a frequent user of Illustrator CS6 and Photoshop CS6, both of which work perfectly. I have downloaded all of the latest updates for InDesign. I am using a PC with Windows 7 64bit and 6mb of ram.

Bing search results can't be clicked for many searches.

I'm moving away from Google and am frustrated with either a bug in Firefox 13, or perhaps a plug in. I've looked at the HTML source for the Bing's search results and don't see any issues with their anchors. This doesn't happen on every search result, but the example included has been consistently not working.

I'm going to pass on that option, cor-el. I have too many settings, preferences, site info, etc to give that one a try. Anyway, here's an image illustrating the issue. I've selected the results and highlighted where the missing links are with red boxes. When the text isn't highlighted, it all appears correctly, but the boxed areas can't be clicked!

How can I activate the Middle East Languages in My Indesign CS6?

I need to view and change the Middle East Language Text in the Indesign Documents.
I've the Adobe CS6 Master Suite. Do I need to buy a particular version of Indesign CS6? Or i't enough to download some package?

Peter and Steve have already given you somewhere between 90% and 100% of the answers you'd need to get this to work.
If I open a document with Arabian Text (for example) I see this text
That makes it look like you are missing a font. If you have InDesign documents that already have correctly-typeset Arabic (not "Arabian") text using contemporary fonts and RTL text direction, then all you have going on here is a dropped font. When you open the document up, do you get a missing-fonts warning? If so, that's what you need to fix! If not, then you need to be using the same version of the font that was used in the document originally. In fact, if I had to take a guess, I would guess that someone typeset an Arabic document in one of those fonts on a Windows machine in Arial, and your Mac has an old version of Arial that has no Arabic glyphs. Or something along those lines. But it's just a guess - without more information from you, all we can do here is guess and make general reccomendations.
Speaking of which:
I'd strongly recommend viewing Diane's videos on Lynda. com. It will answer all your questions. It's a pretty complex area if you haven't done it before:
Steve's recco here is a very good one. That is the best intro to this kind of work that I have ever seen.

Peter's observation here is correct, most of the time. Some Arabic files were produced by 20th-century means (mirror-reversed fonts, custom-encoding hacks, special fonts that only really work with ArabicXT on Quark, and so on) and require significant reconstruction if you want to use them in CS6.
So if their suggestions don't get you 100% of the way to a working document, try posting some more details (like names of fonts, histories of files, more-revealing screenshots of the whole ID window in View-> Screen Mode -> Normal with text tool active, and so on) and I'm sure we can figure it out.

How can I get back the "edit original" option in InDesign CS2?

I am using InDesign CS2 version 4.0 on a new windows 7 pc.
On my previous pc (windows xp) I could open an ID document, right click on an image, select "edit original" and it would open up in Photoshop for editing. Very handy.
Now that option is just not there on the drop down. The pencil in the links menu and the option under the edit menu are both greyed out.I can't find any way of accessing the option which is really important for my workflow.
Any help gratefully received.

Opening the document on a different computer is a meaningless test for something like this.
The link could well be present there and not on your computer.
As for XP mode, the less I say about it the better.

Can a color laser printer be adjusted to match InDesign CS6 colors?

I'm trying to print through a laser printer (color Brother HL-4570CDW) but it muddies all the colors and darkens them.
The inkjet Epson does ok, but I'd like to save ink, if possible. Is there a way to adjust the way the printer reads the colors?
I'm not totally experienced in color profiles and such. I tried both CMYK and RGB, but still it looks awful. It may be the printer, but is there anything else I can do?

The printer in question, the Brother HL-4570CDW, is a fairly inexpensive SOHO laser printer typically used to print “office” documents. As such, it doesn't offer direct options either on the front panel or via the driver to match typical commercial print conditions such as SWOP. Most content sent to such a device is sent as RGB from printer drivers.
(For your convenience, I have attached a copy of both the specification sheet and the manual for this device!)
Some ideas:
(1) Don't expect reasonable CMYK colors if you are using what Brother describes as the “Windows(r) printer driver (the most suitable printer driver for this product)” and what is apparently installed by default (see page 26 of manual). It invokes an emulation of HP PCL5C, pure RGB, which is a real problem from InDesign. Install their “BR-Script printer driver” and turn off the option for RGB vivid color and try that instead. BR-Script is Brother's emulation of PostScript 3 - definitely not Adobe PostScript 3, but it possibly will give you better results than their emulation of PCL5C!
(2) Assuming you are printing BR-Script and the colors are still very problematic, try recalibrating the printer via the printer's front panel. See page 82 of their manual!
(3) Export PDF as PDF/X-4 and try printing the PDF/X-4 file from Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader, again using the BR-Script driver. This might improve things.
If you still can't get decent color and the printer is still “new,” I'd try to return the unit as defective. You can get much better printers for comparable prices from Xerox that have Adobe PostScript 3 and have reasonably good color. Otherwise, if still under warranty, I'd contact Brother and see if they have solutions other than blaming Adobe somehow!

How can I make the bleed image content reappear in indesign cs6

Hi there,
I created a 3mm bleed in the document setup and made sure the artwork filled the bleed area. Then, suddenly, after playing around with some view settings (and maybe some other things that i cant remember), the bleed image content will not show up in neither indesign nor the exported pdf. When I set the view mode to normal, it just shows the bleed content area as white. I see the bleed lines and see that the images are filling the bleed when selecting the images themselves, but the bleed area is completely white and I can´t send my files to the printer as the content will not show up there either.
Has anyone experienced this and know a fix? I was thinking that maybe the reset preferences would help, but I´m unsure.

I am in Normal mode and yes, the W shortcut toggle works.

I can no longer click on a link in email and get re-directed

as far as I'm aware I haven't changed any settings - but I used to able to click on any type of link that came over on email and get into the appropriate website. I can no longer do this and I don't know why - can anyone help?

Go to Tools>options>tabs>check the "open new windows in tab"
or ctrl+click on the link ( always worked )

Unable to open tool options

I am not able to open tool options on the bottom bar in Photshop Elements 12.
This happens when I select the text tool as well as the crop tool.

I can't open InDesign CS6 files by double clicking on them.

I have changed Preferences in the application and have changed them in Windows, too. The app opens but does not open the file. Anyone else have a fix for this?

Check the registry. The standard key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.indd should be "Indesign.Document".
Then in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document there should be a standard key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Shell\Open\Command with the path to Indesign, like this "D:\Tools\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exe" "%1".
Then it should actually work.
In case the icons are wrong, there are two keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Icons\Default that can be fixed.

In InDesign CS6, can we now make the hyperlinks open in a new window?

With InDesign CS5, we could link outside the document using a PDF exported file, but when customers clicked on the hperlink, it opened a window on top of the pdf file which meant that the customers had to hit their back button and scroll down the pdf file to find the page they were on again.
Do you know if the InDesign CS6 has added an option that allows the hyperlinks to open in a "blank" window?

There is no such option in InDesign CS6. It has to be accomplished in Acrobat by use of a JavaScript, as I recall. You should ask in the Acrobat forums for more informations.

Where is the TOOL BAR? For example, where can Igo to click on "Tools" for go to "Options"??

Please tell me how I can access what used to the tool bar? I am trying to find TOOLS where I can click on the drop down menu and select OPTIONS to get rid of cookies on a website. I was trying to find this for FRUSTRATING HOURS yesterday! Please help! ALso, in my very limited knowledge of troubleshooting, somehow I downloaded the MOST ANNOYING little GOOGLE taskbar that floats ALL OVER my screen and I cannot maximize the screen or anything over it uuuggghh! for the life of me, I cannot remember how I ever got this nebulous little demon, I was trying so hard to find the tool bar! Or for Tools > Options you would find that under the "Firefox" button then in the right column of the drop-down look for Tools. It does not fit the needs of Firefox users with extensions you still have bring up the Tools menu from the Menu by using the "Alt" key to temporarily see the the menu bar.

I can't open .doc downloads with MS Office. I click tools-options-applications and Word is not in the list of choices. I browse and double click MS Office to choose it only to get more subfolders. How do I choose Office?

When I receive a .doc (or .docx) to download from an email, open office or another similar application is chosen to open it instead of MS Office Word (have 2007 student). When I go to Tools>Options>Applications, Word does not appear on the list. When I use the Browse button, I cannot choose Word either. I double click on the MS Office folder only to get more subfolders.

I have a similar problem. Even though Word is listed under Firefox applications as opening .doc files, when I try to download a .doc file, it always asks me to choose an application and I have to go through an extra three steps to open Word.

Firefox closes when "tools"+ "options" clicked & won`t respond to Typed URLs but ok with "bookmarked"urls

Investigating why FF was using so much memory I was advised to use "Restore Firefox" button.
Did that but now I can`t use "tools" "options" `cos it closes the browser. Other menus under "tools" work OK.
If I try to download any updates for plug-ins etc the FF browser closes down.
Can`t browse my images folders to add to interactive sites.....closes down FF
Can type a URL but nothing happens but if I enter a "bookmarked" url or a "history" url then it is OK

Many of the fixes say "go to Tools & Options" but when I click on Options the browser again closes.
I seem to have lost access to IE some while ago and have been using Firefox OK up until recently, but then my computer started to go very slow and the Task Manager keeps showing 100% usage of the CPU.
When I start the pc with only the desktop displaying, the CPU usage is 60-70% and around 35 processes are running. Is this normal?
When I open Firefox the usage increases rapidly until the CPU shows 100%.
It was while resetting Firefox to try and sort this usage problem that I lost my download ability and the use of "tools" then "options" and also urls that are typed in.(bookmarks & history ok)
Any advice welcome.
