Can't switch Input Source to built-in Mic

A few days ago I switched my Input source for a real track to "Stereo 1/2 Built-in Input" by going to System Preferences > Sound > Input and selecting Line-In because I wanted to record guitar. Now when I go back to System Preferences and select Internal Microphone, it picks up a signal in the System Prefs window, but when I open Garageband there are no options to switch the input source to the Built-In Mic again. It only lists options for Mono Built-In Input and Stereo Built-In Input. What do I do to enable recording with the built-in mic again?

  • Gnome: Capslock for switching input sources (kbd layouts)

    Hi,
In Settings->Keyboard-Typing I can't change Super+Space to Capslock: it gets ignored, unlike most of the keys. Setting Capslock in Tweak Tool won't work either. What else can I try?

And it looks like there is a solution! In order to switch to something like Caps Lock or Alt Shift, you need to set the shortcut for "Modifiers-only switch to next source" rather than "Switch to next input source". To set it, you need to press and hold the disable button, mouse over the one you want (Caps Lock), and release the mouse. If this solves your problem, don't forget to mark the thread [SOLVED].

  • Can't switch input language while in Premiere Pro

    Hello,
For some reason I cannot switch input language while in Premiere Pro in the language bar. For example I have 2 input languages, English and Chinese (Google Pinyin). While in Premiere, I click the language tray and switch to Google Pinyin, and the icon switches to indicate how it's Chinese input, however in Premiere I can still only type English.
I know Premiere Pro supports multi language input because while at work I'm able to switch to Chinese input. Does anyone know how to fix this? Both my work and home computer uses Windows 7.

Are you talking about creating titles?

  • Switch Input Sources Shotcut Fails Occationally

    Hi,
I'm using 10.9.4 and I have the need to switch between English and Chinese. I set the select previous input source shotcut to control + shift + spacebar and at first everything works just fine. However, after experience a few times of failures changing input source to Chinese in the middle of using Firefox or Microsoft Communicator, it's kind of annoying and I'm reaching out for a solution.
The annoyance is that when I hit the shortcut in the middle of something, it changes the input source icon to Chinese on the top of the screen, but what I type is still English. If this happens, the shortcut won't work no matter how, until you move the cursor to click the icon and select Chinese Pinyin, gracefully.
This malfunction totally destroyed the pleasure of having the shortcut. Anyone has a fix for this? I appreciate a lot.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply Tom!
After posting the question, I took another look at the shortcut page for input sources, and found that I was only using the shortcut for switching to the previous input source. It comes to my mind that I could use the next source in input menu shortcut and this one seems to be a better choice. I would really prefer to leave the Spotlight shortcut as default, and now I'm using control + , and control + . for previous and next input. Although switching to next lacks the display on the center of the screen as you hold down the switching to previous shortcut, I just hope it won't fail on me.
    So far it's working fine.

  • Can't switch input layout in Contacts and other ap...

When Contacts is oepend, it's impossible to switch input language with Ctrl-Space.
You have to enter 1 letter and then it is possible to switch layout.
Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Can't switch input language

    Hi.
I recently upgraded to windows 8 (after all updates now it is 8.1).
Up until yesterday I only used it with one user account.
Yesterday I added another account, and for some reason instead of having both input languages It only had English.
I added the second language successfully and the language bar appeared as expected.
However, after a restart the language bar disappeared, as well as the ability to use "alt-shift" to switch languages.
When I look at the settings the both languages are there, and the "Use language bar when possible (or something to that effect)" is checked. Also, the language bar is set to be docked (I tried float - didn't do any good) and the shortcut is set
for "Alt Shift". But, no language bar is shown and the input language can not be changes.
A weird thing is that when I look at the shortcuts list I have "switch language --> Alt-Shift", "Hebrew --> (none)". No entry for English.
Just to make it clear - in order to write this question in English I had to use my other account.
    Thank you very much,
    Asaf.

    Hi,
Please run “ctfmon.exe”, does the language appear again?
And  follow the instruction below to force the exe to run each time you start windows.
    Open registry, locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
    Create a new string value,
    specify the name "CTFMon".
Type “ctfmon”=”CTFMON.EXE” in Value data field, OK.
    Restart your computer.

  • Gcin can't switch input

I've been pondering this problem and hope someone can give me a hint. Ever since I ran pacman update a couple of days ago, it's several months before the last update, I'm unable to toggle to different input. When I login to gnome, gcin icon shows up correctly, and gcin process is owned by gdm, which I don't think is correct. When I su to root and restart gcin, all is working. Then I look at the process again, it's owned by my normal user. I've been looking at startup scripts and still can't figure out how gcin is started at boot. Please let me know if you have any idea.

You can find some hint here (in Chinese)

  • Can't change input source Mac Pro

    Hi all,
Having an issue with my sound settings on my Mac Pro. I cannot seem to select the built in line out option in System Preferences and have it stick.
Holding down Option and clicking on the sound menu lets me select Line Out but as soon as I click the menu again, it's back on Internal Speakers.
I did a search and had a read of this, tried these options to no avail:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2160114&start=45&tstart=0
    ie:
Deleted Audio folder, tried to change sound prefs, no new Audio folder was created
Created new Audio folder and fixed up permissions with Disk Utility (even tried it while logged in as root). Says it fixes it but it doesn't.
Manually changed permissions to owner:root rwx, group:_coreaudiod rwx, everyone rx using BatCHMOD and cleared extra leopard ACLs.
Tried booting the mac pro off my macbook pro (via target disk mode), this worked and the settings stuck, but after copying the settings files across from the laptop drive to the mac pro drive it made no difference.
It appears like the computer is ignoring the settings entirely, and won't create new ones either, since it ignores the correct/updated prefs I copied from the laptop. Even if I make the folder RWX for everyone it makes no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix? I don't really want to have to reinstall the system

Figured it out... click and hold the button.  Ignore this.

  • Changing input source from Built in microphone to Line in

HangTime thankyou but that does not help I would apprieciate some helpfull constructive advice not just referal to another web site

Did you try the setup offered on Samson's FAQ page for logic?
    http://www.samsontech.com/support/samson/servicequestionanswer/view/samsons-usb- mic-faqs-combined-historical/
Follow the instructions for the Logic setup (not Garageband) .  It's worth a shot.

  • Built in microphone not working. Can't select the 'Input Source'.

I can't get the built in mic on my laptop to work, i tried any suggestion i could find on internet but i'm still stuck. I haven't used it before with windows or any other distribution so i can't tel if it's a new/old problem. Dreyfus2006, welcome to the forum.
I suggest going into Control Panel / Troubleshooting / Hardware and Sound / Recording Audio.  You can run the troubleshooter to see if it finds the problem.
Also, have you uninstalled and reinstalled the microphone in Control Panel / Device Manger / Audio inputs and outputs?  This may allow you to install the latest driver.

  • Keyboard shortcuts to switch to SPECIFIC input sources

I currently have 4 input sources on my mac (English, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish).
I use the keyboard shortcuts Command+Space and Command+Shift+Space, and I also have it set to automatically switch input sources as I switch to a document, but for some reason, it's just not working out very well for me. I feel like I'm always typing in the wrong language - particularly if I have tabs open in Safari with different languages, or something like Facebook chat which is in the same window, but may require all 4 languages.
I'm wondering if there is any way to set language-specific shortcuts, for example Control+Command+E -> English, or Control+Command+H -> Hebrew.
I looked in the menus of BetterTouchTool but could find nothing...
Do I need to make some kind of script or app to do this?
Thank you / תודה / Gracias / спасибо!

  • Cannot British input source with Safari

I am using a Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000, which has a British layout, with my Macbook. It works fine apart from some of the key mappings don't match up with what is printed on the keys.
I have Snow Leopard, and going to 'System Preferences' > 'Language & Text', I can select which input sources to show in the input menu in the menu bar. One of the options is 'British - Microsoft', which I can tick and then select from the menu bar as an input source.
This only works for SOME applications (e.g. Word), but not for others (e.g. Safari). When in Word I can select 'British - Microsoft' and all my keys are mapped correctly. However, if I then switch to Safari, the keyboard sets itself back to 'British', and if I try to change it again, I find that 'British - Microsoft' is greyed-out and cannot be selected.
Why is this, and is there any way I can use a British style Microsoft keyboard with Safari without having to learn the odd key mapping?
    Any advice much appreciated.

This has come up before, I think the MS layout is defective.

  • Firefox on OS X 10.6.8: How to have a different input source for different tabs in one window (the option "Allow a different one for each document" is on)

Currently, firefox 29 keeps one language for different tabs in one window. Different windows can have different input sources...

    Thank you for your reply!
I think I've accidentally marked the problem as solved, but in fact it's not.
What is needed is that the firefox remember different input methods (languages, for instance, En or Fr) for different tabs so that when I switch between several tabs I don't need to change the layout.
Chrome remembers my language settings for each tab, so it's not always one language for all the same tabs there. I haven't found such an option in Firefox so far.
    Hope it's clear enough.
    Thanks in advance.
