Can't switch sound output device macbook air/mountain lion

When I choose my Airport Express for music coming from iTunes, the audio does switch to the APE,  but even the lowest volume setting is fairly loud.  The F11 and F12 volume keys bring up the indicator bars, but there is no change in the level coming from the APE.   Additionally, the Sound Preference still says Internal Speakers.  If I try to change ouput device to the APE (AirPlay) it won't let me.  Any ideas?

i got same problem too but it's 2011 macbook pro 10.6.8 also SD card out of order as well and it's horrible computer I ever have. no more mac

  • My sister can't find Pages on her Macbook Pro Mountain Lion, can someone help?

My sister is new to her MacBook Pro Mountain Lion and thinks she may have deleted the Pages program. She's away at college for the first time and needs this program. I've told her to use Finder and search for Pages, or look in her applications, but to no avail. Help?

How did she acquire Pages in the first place?
If it was a purchase from the Mac App Store, all she need to do is launch App Store (from the  menu is easiest), sign in with the Apple ID & password used, click on 'purchases' & click the INSTALL button to the right of Pages in the list.
If it was from a retail DVD she will need the DVD to reinstall.

  • How can I get sound on my MacBook Air after installation of Lion? "No output devices found" on the system preferences pane of my MacBook Air.

Since installing Lion on my MacBook Air, I get no sound and ITunes playback doesn't move. The Sound Preference pane states "No output devices found." The Bluetooth connection to a WiFi speaker works, so it must be a software problem. Anyone?

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

  • External sound output on Macbook Air stopped working

Two months ago, my Macbook Air went silent.
I tried every trick I was suggested, including upgrading to Mountain Lion OSx , after which sound came back for a few day then disappeared again.
Their is no external speakers listed under <system preferences / sound / output>
Internet is full of this complains, I mean it is not regional and limited to a particular version of hardware/software... complains are coming from everywhere across the world since 2008.
Unfortunately tech support at Apple appears to have no clue as neither hardware change nor software update / upgrade doesn't seem to solve the issue permanently. But they still replace parts and software for some reason, just to drive people crazy later.
I am confident that this issue has already been told to design team , the problem was known for years after all.
What is this? Does Apple expects people to trash their computers when this happens? and get a new one? Is this because Apple asks new customers if they want to recycle their old computers with them?
You probably think I am an Apple hater , I am not. I like their products but I hate their tech support, I am sick and tired of listening to so-called geniuses ,  bunch of untrained high school kids with a lot of BS.
Only hope I have left is, somehow, there maybe someone out there who already solved this problem... Are you there?
    MacBook Air specs :
Processor  2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8
Other Apple products I use together with this Mac :
    Magic mouse
    Apple TV latest
    iPad latest
    iPod touch 4th gen.

    I finally found the solution,
the solution itself actually explains why Apple was so silent about this issue
because every macbook that was sold over the last 5 years was defective ,
it will probably cost Apple $100s of millions to recall them
It is the Audio Board Flex Cable, Part #: 922-8380
    this cable goes bad quickly,
it is defective because this is strickly a design issue
I opened the macbook and replaced it myself,
    all looks fine now

  • Macbook air, mountain lion, FaceTime

    Hi there guys,
I've purchased a macbook air that came with Mountain Lion. And also that came with FaceTime installed. My question is I can still purchase FaceTime on App Store. Are there any differences between the one that comes installed on ML? Or is it just some sort of a glitch that FaceTime is not registered to my AppleID and somehow I've got the software installed on the laptop.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the welcome.
It says 10.6.6 or later for OS compatibility. And also I can still purchase it. It is kind of strange.

  • No sound from my Macbook Air. When I go to system preferences and click on Sound Output there are no devices to select from and the Mute box is checked.

There is no sound from my Macbook Air even when I turn it on.  When I go to System Preferences and click on Output there are no options.  The Mute box is also checked, but I cannot uncheck it.  Also when I try to play any video from the web, it stops playing after a second or so.  I have turned off my computer and turned it on again which did not help.

    Try these

  • How do I change the icloud account on my iphone? I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air and imac and iphone). I can't see where I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey?

I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air, imac and iphone). I can't see how I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey? I also can't remember the password for this account so i can't even delete it and start again?
    Help!
    Thanks

Deleting an iCloud account only deletes it from the Device, not from iCloud.  In iOS 8, the name of this setting changed to "Sign Out" as that is a better reflection of what actually happens.  Your iCloud data remains on the server, available to devices still signed into the account, but the device you sign out of the account on is disconnected from the account, and as a result, the iCloud data from that account is removed from the device.  It will redownload to the device should you sign back into the account.
The only issue you'll run into when you switch between accounts is with my photo stream photos older than 30 days.  When you delete (or sign out of) and account, your photo stream photos are deleted along with the other data from the account in question.  However, unlike other data which remains on the server and can redownload to your device when you sign back in, my photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  When you sign back in, you will only get back my photo stream photos added in the last 30 days (as older photos are no longer in iCloud to redownload).  Like other account data, any my photo stream photos on your other devices signed into the account are unaffected by this.  If you want to keep older my photo stream photos on your device as you change iCloud accounts, save them to your camera roll before deleting (signing out of) the account.

  • Switching audio output device without pulseaudio

I frequently use a USB sound card with a pair of headphones, which had been playing nicely with Gnome and Pulseaudio. Gnome provides a GUI to switch between output devices which seems to work well, but requires Pulseaudio. Long story short, I'm in the middle of switching away from Gnome to a lighter WM setup and I have everything working but am not able to figure out how to switch between sound cards on the fly. I don't want to keep a bunch of Gnome dependencies just for this.
I tried a "slots" configuration (http://alsa.opensrc.org/MultipleCards#T … .22_method) which set my USB card to slot 0 and my built in Intel audio to slot 1. This got my USB card working when it's plugged in, but now I get no sound at all when it's unplugged. I've checked the volume settings with "alsamixer -c 1" and everything is unmuted and loud, but still nothing.
Shouldn't the system fall back on card 1 if card 0 is unplugged? How can I make this happen?
    Thanks.

That still requires restarting running applications for the change to take effect, no?

there is no sound on my macbook air. I have checked the volume and mute controls and the internal speaker are selected.  any one any ideas please.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

  • Selecting the sound output device

Hi, is there any way to select which sound output device to use from an Adobe AIR application? If there is, I can't seem to find it (using either the manual, the forums or Google).
