Can't sync Address Book note field to iPhone contacts

Hi:
I make heavy use of the "note:" field in my MacBook Address Book app. I store all kinds of detailed info about people, organizations, etc. in that field. I would like to be able to access that information on my iPhone 3G, but the phone's Contacts app has no corresponding "note" field.
Could this be a result of the way I imported data into my MacBook when I first got it?
In searching the fora, I found several people who said their iPhone contacts sync nicely with the Address Book note, and others who say it doesn't sync at all. Can anyone please shed some light on this for me?
Thanks!

Not quite sure what you mean by "editing" but I've tried every method of selecting, deleting, cursor placement, backspacing, and typing I can think of -- again, with and without the Edit button clicked. I did seem to accumulate a huge number of duplicates along the way, and there were more than a thousand cards in my Address Book; maybe I went over the limit?

• Don't want to sync Address Book "Note:" field

Does anyone know how customize the syncing of Contacts from Address Book so that everything but the "Note:" field is synced?
FYI, I'm syncing to a Palm Treo 700p (Verizon Wireless).
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It's not possible to change the conduit field content and label mapping in the iSync Palm Conduit to include additional fields or exclude the Note: field. There is no provision to turn include or exclude data globally, or on a record by record basis.
While you still do not get all of those options with the Missing Sync for Palm OS with the Mark/Space Contacts conduit, you get far better support for categories and groups, contact photographs or icons, additional address fields, a URL and IM address, and more telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses:

• Can I sync Address Book and iCal to put contact info into iCal?

I use Address Book as a contact/customer list and use iCal to prepare my schedule for work. I usually type in the name of the customer I want to see in iCal. Is there anyway to import or drag names out of Address Book into iCal so the location & contact info will be included? I don't want to invite the customer. I just want to input the info into iCal so I don't have retype a name that is already in my Address Book.
If I have customer "xxx" in Adress Book and I am planning on visiting this customer tomorrow. Is there anyway for me to transfer/import this info to iCal without physically typing "xxx"? When I look at my appointment I would love to see the contact info for "xxx" in iCal when I click on individual appointments.
I hope this makes sense.

Hi,
You can link to the Address Book entry with a URL. See my script +Link to Address Book+ on this page http://www.nhoj.co.uk/applescripts/ which creates a link from the currently selected person in Address Book. These can then be added to the URL field in iCal or the notes field if you have more than one per event.
Best wishes

• My MacBook Pro will not sync address book changes with my IPhone. Why? It used to.

My MacBook Pro will not sync address book changes with my IPhone. Why? It used to.

Then you may have to try manually resetting the syncservices folder by following Julian Write's post (from https://discussions.apple.com/message/9274781#9274781):
Ok, as you can't reset SyncServices in the "normal" way, you'll have to resort to the "other" way:
Although it's not advised to do so in normal circumstances, you'll need to manually delete the SyncServices folder.
Before doing so, you MUST make a backup of both your Contacts and Calendars:
In Address Book, choose *Export > Address Book Archive...* from the File menu.
In iCal, choose *Back up iCal...* from the File menu.
Then, make a backup of the SyncServices folder located at:
~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
By backing everything up first, you don't risk losing anything.
Finally delete the aforementioned SyncServices folder and restart the Mac. This will force Mac OS X to recreate the SyncServices folder, and hopefully fix your problem.
I believe in Snow Leopard you can back up your calendar in File>Export>iCal Archive rather than File>Back up iCal as posted above.

• How to import attachment into Address Book "Notes" field

Is it possible to import an attachment into the Address Book "Notes" field? Jpg, PDF, pages doc, whatever...? Don't really care if the file is "visible" (IE if photo, can actually SEE photo)... a clickable icon would be fine.
Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I'm not aware of any direct connector provided by RIM for this purpose. They do supply an ASCII/CSV import capability...see this KB:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
You'd have to find out from AOL how to get your contacts exported to an ASCII or CSV file.

• How can I sync address book to iPhone 3?

How can I sync address book from mac book pro to iPhone 3?

Have you tried this article: iOS: Syncing with iTunes - Support - Apple
Go to the Info Tab in iTunes

• MacBook Pro 17" iTunes can't sync address book with iPad Air

Can't sync between MacBook Pro 10.6 OS ver and new iPad Air (bought 2 days ago) cell 32gig. Have been to Apple shop at Garden City WA, helpful but seems very little knowledge of 10.6 OS. Have attempted upgrade on MacBook to Lion OS, persevered and seemed to work. Except now the MacBook won't boot, even choosing drive unit, just spins the icon. Even left it for a few hours just in case it needed time to sort itself out.
Back to Apple shop first thing in the morning, getting MacBook up and running is first priority followed by syncing address book with iPad. If can't sync guess I'll have to return it as having them communicate is why I brought the iPad, something lighter in my brief case instead of carrying the MacBook around.
It became tiring being told the MacBook was old technology, having spent money with Apple upgrading the MacBook drive & memory to cope with Final Cut and Creative suite.
Any advice most welcome!

Figured it out and it wasn't fun. I watched the console messages as I deleted groups and tried to sync with Mobile Me until no error msg was displayed. Then I restored AB from a back up and proceeded to delete contacts one at a time and check for errors until none were displayed. After deleting about half my contacts under the one group I finally found the one contact. I then did another AB restore, deleted the troubled contact, sync'd fine, then did another backup. I have no idea why that one contact was the problem as everything looked fine. Console msgs only showed a silly number as the contact, not the name, which is why I had to go through all this. But...it's fixed.

• Repeat data in address book notes field

I have certain address book cards that have up to 50 duplicate entries in the notes fields. I read an archived post that had this as the beginning of how to troubleshoot the problem.
It would be interesting to see whether it is storing it duplicated, or merely displaying it duplicated. Run script editor, and paste in this:
tell application "Address Book"
note of person "Joe Smith"
end tell
Change the Joe Smith to one of people whose cards exhibitit the problem, run the script, and tell us if the duplication shows.
AK
I followed this instruction and it only showed the data once, so I assume that means it's "merely displaying it duplicated." Does anyone know how to get rid of this repeat data once and for all?
Thanks

Hi Bruce,
I was at the Apple Store in Bridgewater, NJ yesterday. Of course the genius manager knew the answer in a New York second! I felt so stupid!
Just go to the preferences of Address Book - click "Vcard" at the top and check the "export notes" pref.
How could we NOT know that!! Nothing like the "genius's" at Apple!

• Address Book changing fields on duplicate contacts ?

My Address Book is duplicating contacts, BUT mixing the fields.
Original contac: last-name = "Rosales A", first-name = "Eduardo". No middle-name used.
I get a second contact with: last-name = "A", first-name = "Eduardo". No middle-name apears.
Then yet another with: last-name = "A", middle-name = "Eduardo" and first-name = "Rosales".
Forget about physical addresses that will by magic put a "country" when there was none defined.
Forget also that it (Address Book) is adding pictures to contacts, I don't want to, some correct (when asked to some friends) but some incorrect (a friends photo on a Company contact with no relation).
I'm aware of using iCloud and "on My Mac", will duplicate info, this is already taken care of.
It all started when I was using and syncing ONE MacBook and ONE iPhone. By magic, I did not change anything.
Now I'm using iCloud, Lion on the MacBook, iOS 5.0 on the iPhone-4 and the iPad-2.
Now, if I delete one instance of a contact, say on the iPhone, it will disapeare on the MacBook.
BUT tomorrow, during a "sync over the air", again the "A" last-name will show up.
Best regards,
Eduardo Rosales.

If you are going to reactivate synchronization, then do this first:
• launch iSync
• open the Preferences… dialog
• press the Reset Sync History… button
This will leave your sync clients registered and your data intact, but remove any indication that you have ever synchronized before, clearing the truth database and triggering an initial slow synchronization once you re-enable to process and initiate your next event.

• Syncing address book on Mac to iphone?

my phone has deleted all contacts and I don't see them on my itunes BUT i Do see them on my mac address book? How to sync? Much thanks!!

You won't see your contacts in iTunes. iTunes manages the sync from the Address Book. Simply select your phone in iTunes, go to the info tab at the top and check sync Address Book.

• Help..can not sync address book on macbook with iphone

not sure, but the iphone will not sync with the address book on my macbook, what am i doing wrong?
help
Thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you have never synchronized your Address Book before, you must first configure your computer to do so.
• launch iSync [that's right: iSync]
• open the Preferences… dialog
• check the Enable Syncing on this computer option
• launch the Address Book
• open the Preferences… dialog
• check the Synchronize my contacts with other computers using .Mac option
To synchronize events, you'll need to configure iCal in a similar manner.

• Address Book Note Field reverts back any edits I make

I have been a long time Apple user and Address Book. I have noticed something peculiar happening with my contact notes in Address Book. Changes that I make to the note field, by either deleting or adding information will revert back to previous record before my edit. This does not appear to happen to all contacts but definitely is happening on multiple contacts and I have no idea as to why.
The only way I have found to fix this problem is to make a vcard of the contact onto my desktop. Then delete the contact and reimport the vcard, this seems to fix the problem, but I have close to 4000 contacts and it is a random thing. Please help if you have any suggestions.
David

thx for the quick response VK
I sync with an iPhone but not mobile me.
I corrected 25 sync conflicts a few moments ago but that did not help the situation
I rebooted and ran a few YASU scripts... that did not help either
I removed pref files and still have the same bug rearing its ugly head in the notes field
I rebuilt the AB DB and... the bug is still occurring
interesting news is that:
I added a new record and the bug did not occur!
I copied one of the offending records and then edited the copy by deleting the first 3 lines of notes.. this resulted in the same bug (the first 3 lines reappeared)
I then clicked the EDIT button and replaced the first 3 lines of notes with text
and the change was saved... this worked.
Then I deleted the offending record and checked back with the copy that I just created... it was fine
the issue is that when I edit an existing record, I will have no assurance that my edit is saved after I leave that record and continue to another one...
hope you have some ideas
so that I can trust AB once again
thanks..
what next?

• Address Book notes field adds the letter 'n'

I have just started to notice that Address Book is randomly adding the letter 'n' within a contact persons note field. See attached example above 'AUTUMN VEGETABLES'......Has only starting since the move from MobileMe to 10.7 and iCloud.....

I get this too! Frustrating. I'd thought it was from quite some time ago. Perhaps even with Snow Leopard, but I can't be sure. I'm still getting it on Mountain Lion and I'm pretty sure that it was happening before iCloud when I was syncing with Mobile Me. I can't figure out if there's a way to search for it to clean it up becuase the search would yield any record with an "n" in it... The cleanup would be for naught as there are always more random n's. However, I have not noticed the n's returning to a particular contact as if there is a particular issue with that contact. Anyone else? I wonder if this has to do with some third party software that we're all using... Any thoughts anyone?

• Can't sync Address Book to iPad

I have a new iPad and have Snow Leopard on my iMac with all software up to date. I have configured the iPad to sync over WiFi. Using iTunes, sync works fine for Calendar and Safari bookmarks. But I can't get iTunes to sync the Address Book properly. (I have iCloud Contacts switched off.) What happens is that the Address Book group names are copied to the iPad, but the groups are empty once they get there.
I can create new contacts on the iPad and they work OK, so it's not that I don't know how to use the Contacts app. I can even create a new contact entry on the iPad within one of the groups brought in from the iMac. But synching individual contact names within the groups from the Address Book just doesn't happen. (It doesn't work either if I initiate the sync from the iPad.)
Any ideas why this happens would be much appreciated.
- Malcolm

I am a mac lover since 1982.
I bought an ipad (3rdgen retina), to be sure that communication with my (old?) macmini core 2Duo 10.6.8 would be simple.
After hours and hours reading posts on forums, I have understood that sync between Address book and iPad will not work "OTA" (over the air i.e. through icloud ?).
The best I succeeded to get is :
* safari/icloud <==> ipad/contacts sync (both directions, within a minute, with iCloud Contacts switched ON)
* ipad/contacts (or iCloud?) <==> address book sync through USB with iCloud Contacts switched OFF upon a manual backup demand.
Apple used to be more intuitive !
To reach my goal, i.e having iCal and Address Book synchronized between macmini and iPad without any manual action, I am looking toward "owncloud" on my NAS ; this, at least, will avoid that these personnal datas will be stored elsewhere than on my disks, on a "cloud" whose I have not (yet?) understood mechanism.

• I can't sync address book with iCloud

For a time my Address Book is not sync' with my icloud. I have tried to turn it off and on, but no improvement! Can somebody give a tip?

If you are on a Mac running Mavericks, you have no other options right now. You will have to use iCloud or another cloud-based service.
