Can't sync Contacts between iMac on 0S X 10.6.8 & iPhone 4s

I've never been able to sync Addressbook on my iMac and Contacts on my iPhone. After finding advisors at my local Genius Bar no better than me at solving this problem, I'm now trying to see if I can get any help on Mac Forum.
I have an iPhone 4s, and an iMac still on Os X 10.6.8 (because I was advised that with the 4GB RAM of my 2008 iMac, upgrading to the OS versions from Lion onwards would slow up my machine).
My iMac being on 10.6.8 excludes the use of iCloud for syncing my iPhone with my iMac.
So I continue to do it through iTunes. With the option "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" clicked, and under Info Sync Contactsalso clicked, I also have "All contacts" selected.
But no such syncing happens.
What happens instead is syncing between Contacts on my iPhone and and apparently some version of an addressbook on my iMac which derives from the days when I used to back up my Nokia 6300 via Bluetooth, and which seems to have been enriched since with the further contacts I've been putting into my iPhone. This happened when I had an iPhone 4, and has been happening since I've had an iPhone 4s, in other words for years.
It not only means that I can't carry the contents of the Addressboook on my iMac with me on my iPhone. It also means that any new contact I put in my iPhone doesn't appear in the Addressbook of my iMac after I've done the syncing between my iPhone and my iMac; nor does any new contact I put in the Addressbook of my iMac appear after in Contacts on my iPhone after syncing with my iMac.
It's also been possible, either for me or for the tech tech adviser at my local Genius Bar who has tried, to find on my iMac the version of the addressbook, apparently derived from my Nokia 6300 days, with which my iPhone Contacts seems to be syncing.
I'll be really grateful for any and all help with this conundrum.

If you would like to use iCloud, you can try Yosemite. I have an early 2008 iMac running Yosemite and I've had no problems with it. I did upgrade my RAM to 6 GB, following the instructions from the link below.

One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.

  • How can I sync contacts to IMac, Icloud and Iphone

My Contacts on my Imac have only one option in settings to sync with my google contacts.  Before Icloud all my contacts and calendar synced just fine between my Imac and Iphone.  Now with Icloud I never seem to be able to sync contact to or from my Iphone.

iCloud requires Mac OS X 10.7.2 or later. Your signature states you are using 10.6.5 so that could be the reason.
You can still use iTunes to sync your contacts. You don't have to use iCloud.

  • HT4489 How can I synchronize contacts between Apple Address Book/iPhone address book and Outlook (I'm on Mac OX10.7.4 and using Office 2011)?

I appear to have done what I should to move to iCloud on my Mac, MacbookAir, iPhone and iPad.  Using Outlook 2011 on the iMac and unable to sync contacts between Outlook and my Apple Address Book and iPhone over the cloud.  I gather lots of people have the same problem but some appear to have solved it... any ideas?
Also, in some sync, I managed to duplicate the entries on the Address Book on my Mac, whereas the iCloud Address Book is ok.  How can I replace the Address Book on my computer with the one on iCloud?
    Thank You for any help!

Hi Lucy, I had the same problem with Outlook data sync. Once you've enabled iCloud all your contacts are moved to iCloud and are no longer stored on Mac, that's why Outlook cannot reach them - there is simply nothing to reach as data physically stored in cloud.
I use SyncMate to solve this problem. This app allows connecting and syncing numerous devices and accounts with your Mac and they have recently added iCloud into this list (here the page where they describe sync with iCloud http://www.sync-mac.com/cloud-sync.html ).
This is how I established sync of my Outlook data with iCloud via this app.
    1. SyncMate syncs only that data which is located on your Mac so you will need to move your contacts back to Address Book on mac from iCloud and disable iCloud for contacts (in order they were stored on Mac, not in iCloud).
    2. You install SyncMate and add iCloud as a new connection (depending on data you want to sync you need to choose "Cloud contacts" or "Cloud calendars" connection in SyncMate wizard and log into your iCloud via SyncMate). Once you've done this, you can sync data on Mac with iCloud via SyncMate.
    3. I may assume that automatic sync option is enabled in Outlook preferences (as previously your contacts on Mac were synced with Outlook). If no - please, enable it (got to Outlook preferences).
    4. Once all this done, data will be automatically synced betwen Outlook and iCloud (latter via SyncMate). The trick of SyncMate is that data is physically located on your Mac (thus ensuring it will be synced with other devices and accounts SyncMate supports, as I said before, SyncMate works with data which is located on Mac), but you still can have it in iCloud (sync will be performed via SyncMate, no need to enable iCloud itself).
    5. And of course, you will be able to sync your iPhone contacts with your Mac (SyncMate supports sync with iPhones also). These contacts will be also synced to Outlook.

    What instructions?
In the source list click devices (so far so good) then click the entry for your iphone or ipod.  that doesn't exist. HELP asap
You don't import photos from the iPhone to your computer using iTunes.
See this -> iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Note this only applies to photos taken with the iPhone. Any photos you previously added to your iPhone using iTunes should be copied from old computer to new computer.

  • Syncing contacts between Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard?

One of my computers is running Mountain Lion, and the other is running Snow Leopard and so does not have access to iCloud. Is there any way to sync Contacts between the two computers?

I am not sure why you can't access iCloud, using a browser? Then you have the same address book, so long as you are connected to the internet.  https://www.icloud.com/
No email involved. From the browser, you can download individual iCards or all of the individual cards, BUT unfortunately, not the Groups. So, you have to fiddle on the SL machine with keeping the groups organized.
Up until recently, I have been able to sync Contacts from ML (which stays synced to iCloud) to SL this way:  copy the /Users/~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ folder from the ML computer to the SL computer by dragging the icon onto the dock's AddressBook icon, this should retain all the group info.  But, recently, this has ceased being complete.
Apple really left us behind on this one.

  • Can Airdrop move Contacts from iMac to MacBook Air?

Can Airdrop move Contacts from iMac to MacBook Air?

Yes and no. AirDrop is used to send a file from one computer to another. A Contact isn't a file so AirDrop isn't the best way to move contacts from one computer to another. If you own both an iMac and MBA and want to keep the two computers synced, the easiest way is to create an iCloud account on both computers. Any calendar event, to do, contact, or note you create on one will sync to the other. If you just bought a MBA and want to move data to it from your iMac you should use Apple's migration assistant. Personally I think the easiest way to migrate is to perform a backup of the old computer to a USB external drive using TimeMachine and then connect the TimeMachine to the new computer and use Migration Assistant.
But can you exchange contacts using AirDrop? Yes. Select the contact(s) you want to transfer, export them as vcards to a temporary folder. Then AirDrop the folder to your MBA. Now run Contacts and then drag the vcards onto the Contacts program icon in the Dock.

  • Sync Contacts between Exchange account and MobileMe account

On my iPad I use two different email accounts: one Exchange account with ActiveSync and one MobileMe account.
How can I consolidate or sync Contacts between the two accounts?
At least, I would like to be able to move contacts from my MobileMe account to my Exchange account. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance for any hints or advice.

You could each add the others iCloud to your devices as a secondary account in mail, contacts, calendars and just enable the services you wish to use.

  • Iphone5 wont sync contacts with imac

  • Syncing Contacts between devices

I want to sync Contacts between an iMac (OSX 10.6.8), an iPad (ios 5), an iPad2 (ios 6), and an iPhone 4s (ios 6).  I'd like to combine all of them without creating duplicates, if possible.  After the initial combination, I'd like to be able to make entries on any of the devices and re-sync the others using the iMac as the master.  Any suggestions? Also, if there's a better forum to post this question, please let me know.

  • Sync contacts between two account iCloud

    Hi everyone,
Me and my wife both have iphone. We usually used just one iCloud account, so we had shared calendar, contacts etc. etc. which is very useful for us.
Since Siri has arrived it begun to create troubles with the contacts, because the contact marked as "me" is the same for both iphones, so on my iphone siri calls me with the name of my wife...
Now with the new "family" function with iOS 8 i can finally separate the iCloud accounts on our iphones, and still have the same apps, calendar etc. on both of them.
My problem is with the contacts, we would like to keep the same contacts on both iphones and synched, but i can't do that with the "family" function.
Anyone can suggest me a way to sync contacts between two account iCloud selecting which information to share?
    Thanks

Thanks. You said: "When you setup iCloud the On my Mac contacts should've been moved to iCloud I think (can't remember what happened in my case)."
Actually that does not happen, or at least it didn't happen to me.

  • How Can I sync contacts FROM my iPhone TO my AOL E-mail?

How can I sync contacts FROM my iPhone TO my AOL E-mail? In other words, I want to keep all of my iPhone contact information intact and make AOL "mirror" it (and not wipe it out when I sync thru iTunes).

The iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or with Windows Contacts with Windows, and with the Address Book or with the Entourage address book on a Mac.
If you aren't currently using one of the supported applications on your computer for contact info - the supported address book application on your computer is empty, before syncing contacts enter one contact in the supported application on your computer. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data with the supported application on your computer, which you want to select.
After this, you can export the contacts from the supported application on your computer that is supported for import by your AOL online address book - if AOL includes such an option.

  • How can I sync contacts from Outlook 2010 to my iPhone 4S without using iCloud?

How can I sync contacts form Outlook 2010 to my iPhone 4S without using iCloud?

THanks for that...I have done that BUT 43 of my most important contacts out of 883 are locked into a "Local Contacts" folder.  THey show up in my Contacts folder but are not included in the sync to my iPhone.  Any ideas?

  • How many ipads can i sync to one iMac?

I am a teacher and our ESL team is considering getting 4-5 iPads for our students and we are wondering how many iPads can we sync to one iMac?  I thought it could be potentially much easlier to sync all 5 iPads to one iMac and use this one iMac and its iTunes as our sync station since I am planning on having our team all use pretty much all the same apps with our students...is this possible?

    Hi mstaum,
Yes, they can all sync to the same iTunes library. The key is the AppleID that you will be using. Are you planning on using the same AppleID and iCloud account for all users? If so, then you will want to be sure to set up the Restrictions on each iPad to require a Password for purchases immediately, so you can prevent the students from purchasing other apps on the credit card you are using for the iTunes account....
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
