Can't sync iphoto with iphone or ipad

I have had to create a photos folder to upload my photos to upload to iphone and ipad, if I try to sync from iphoto I get an unknown error - what can I do to fix it? with my ipad I can't get face or place recognition either

What is the error message you get?
Remove the iPod Photo Cache folder and try to sync with iPhoto again: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
If the issue persists try rebuilding your iPhoto Library following this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638. Use the bottom 3 rebuild options.

To sync with iPhone's calendar (also called iCalendar) you need to use a cloud-based calendar. If you already have lightning, install the Google Provider addon and setup Google Calendar. If you have already done that, go to settings on your iPhone. In the Mail, Contacts, and Calendars area, add your Google account, and turn on Calendar. This will sync your Google Calendar with the iPhone.

Mavericks syncs Calendar via iCloud.
Make sure you have the same iCloud account set up on your mac and your iPhone.
In System Preferences > iCloud, make sure the Calendars checkbox is checked.
In System Preferences > Internet Accounts, iCloud should be an account in the box on the left, and Calendars should be checked in the box on the right. If you have other calendars, for example, from work, make sure those are enabled too.
Check the same settings on your iPhone: in Settings > iCloud, make sure the same iCloud account info is present and that the Calendars slider is on. in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, make sure the iCloud account is present, and that the Calendars slider is on.

Mac Book no longer syncs calendar with iPhone or iPad

Since I upgraded to mountain lion my mac book no longer syncs calendars to my iPhone or iPad. I have tried the procedure of deleting the calendar cache in the Library folder to no avail. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, but I don't think I can be of much help on this, as I've switched completely to iCloud for my calendar syncing, and I haven't seen an answer to your problem. Maybe somebody else will come along with an idea.

I was going to purchase Office for Mac 2011, including Outlook. However, I am hearing many problems with this software including the inability to sync Outlook with iPhone and iPad

I currently sync my iPhone and iPad with Outlook on my Windows Desktop, but want to switch and still do this on my new Mac running Lion. However what I am reading about the nightmares of syncing with Outlook in Office for Mac 2011 is making me think twice about going down this road. What an awful situation of purchasing a Mac and being potentially stumped by 'Office for Mac 2011'.
I want to continue using Microsoft Office including Outlook for my business applications - but on the Mac. I like Keynote for presentations, however I also have to create presentations in PowerPoint for some business situations. So, although I don't ideally want to put Windows onto my Mac, would it be more efficient and less hassle to use Parallels 7, Windows 7 and Office 2010, rather than endure the issues associated with OFM 2011?
If I decide to use Parallels 7 and Windows 7 am I then into using software to protect against virus' and malware?
I wouldn't be asking this question if Office for Mac 2011 (including Outlook) wasn't a problem - sadly from what I'm reading, it is.

I just resolved my Outlook 2010 + iPhone Calendar sync issue today : if you have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook (like I do), then you'll find that each account has it's own Calendar (a rather pointless feature IMO). However you probably only use one Calendar like most people, and what has happened is that the mail account which is set as default for Data Files is not the one you are using. Try this:
Outlook 2010 --> Account Settings --> click "Data Files" tab --> select as default whichever acct. is associted with the Calendar you use.

Lost one "face" when sync'd with iPhone and IPad?

I have about 20 "faces" but, mysteriously, one of them doesn't appear in "faces" view via my iPhone and iPad.
I've tried renaming the "face" in iPhoto and then resyncing but it still doesn't appear, whilst all the others appear fine.
It's rather odd - any ideas why this might be happening?

When you can't sync iphoto with your iphone

When itunes gives you an error while trying to sync your pix from iphoto just go into the iphoto library and delate the folder named "iPod Photo Cache".
When you rename an album in iphoto, since the cache file doesnt change, you end up having a mismatch which messes up itunes' mind, therefore just delate that folder (it will automatically recreate with new titles once you sync your iphone again) and everything is going to be alright!

Okay, I solved my problem. Not obvious or easy, but here's what I did. (I'm cutting and pasting the instructions I found that I followed, along with additional clarification from me below):
I went to my iPhoto library in the Finder. There's a file named AlbumData.xml. If you double click it, it should open in Safari. When I opened mine, at the top it said that it was displaying everything up to line so-and-so where there was an error. Good! Now I'm on to something. Next, I used the Find function in Safari to search for "AlbumName". The last "AlbumName" it found was just before the end of the file, so I went back to the next to last "AlbumName" and made note of the album name immediately after it. Then, I opened iPhoto, found the corresponding album in iPhoto to the next to last album name in the AlbumData.xml. Then I changed the name of the album immediately after it (which should have been the last album name in the AlbumData.xml file, but was not displayed because there was an error). Closed iPhoto, opened iTunes, everything works!
Additional clarification: You'll note that when you open the xml file in Safari (drag and drop - and I had two files, oddly, I used the one without a number 2) it says at the top "BELOW IS A RENDERING OF THE PAGE UP TO THE FIRST ERROR". Scanning into the final lines I noticed that a slideshow was what the instructions seemed to be about - a "12 months" sort of deal. I deleted that slideshow from my iPhoto, and voila, all restored when I synced my iPhone with iTunes.
The point is, whatever is at the end of the safari presentation of the xml file is what you should focus on....

My iPhoto ALBUMS key pictures are being rearranged when I sync with my iphone 4s... This only began occurring after I updated to IOS 6 last week...
In iPhoto ALBUMS, the key photo is the first photo in each album... When I sync my iphone 4s with my Mac Air, the ALBUM key photo becomes the last photo in the ALBUMS... Is there any way to fix this???

How can I sync email on iPhone and iPad but NOT PC laptop?

It's a COX POP email and I keep more on my laptop and in folders than I want on my phone or iPad.

POP mail is not synced. POP mail is picked up individually by each email client. If you want to pick up less on one device than the other, set the one device you want to master the account with to delete mail from the server after you pick it up. That way, it would not be available to the other mail clients. Otherwise, you would need to delete whatever mail you do not want on the individual devices. You can also keep in on whatever devices you want and it will not affect the other devices.

I got the other accounts setup, but the inboxes aren't syncing up. The inboxes for my email addresses besides gmail show a bunch of messages as unread that I've already read and deleted on my laptop. I have the same problem on my desktop. All I want is the inboxes to sync up. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
You aren't doing anything wrong. The following was copied from my previous post.
You can keep all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account synchronized automatically with each email client used to access the account. This is not possible with a POP account.
You can access a Gmail account as a POP or IMAP account with the email client used to access the account on your computer as well as with the iPhone's mail client. You can access a Hotmail plus or paid account as a POP account only with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account and with the iPhone's mail client.
Messages received with a POP account are downloaded only by the email client used to access the account. The account's Inbox mailbox with a POP account is not kept synchronized with the server. Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
An IMAP account is designed to be assessed with more than one email client with the ability to keep all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.

Can't sync calendars between iphone 5 & ipad 4

I have an iPhone 5 and Ipad 4 (iPad 3 RT), I want sync the calendars bewteen them. I seem to be unable to synce via iCloud. I have tried various combinations of setting up, but still cannot get any syncing done. I would apprecaite any help.
I know I could probably sync whilst connected to my windows PC and a USB, however, iCloud seems to make things a bit easier - or so I thought!

Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

Can I sync iphoto with icloud?

This must be a very common question but I don't want to use google to store photos. I would like to have them synced everywhere - from my iphoto library on my mac to iCloud, from my iod device to both icloud and iphoto on my mac.....
Is this possible and is there a way of removing duplicate photos??
I'd be very grateful for any advice.

First you need to check that your current Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

WalleWalle below is right: If you're patient for the release of iCloud some time this fall, that should handle your needs.
In the meanwhile, a MobileMe account (which you can't get anymore if you don't already have one) or a Gmail account will do the trick. Exchange will also work, but you'd already know that if you had it available.
Until iCloud is available, I'd recommend getting a free Google Mail (Gmail) account and enabling it for Mail and Calendars. Both your iPhone and your iPad will sync with it automatically.
As an alternative, look at the free Wunderlist, which you can access on your iOS devices with a dedicated app, on the web, and even on a Mac app from the Mac App Store. The apps and service are free, and it's had great reviews. Strictly speaking, it's a to-do app, but it has decent "calendar" functions.
