Can't sync iPod after transfering iTunes content to new computer.

After following these instructions very carefully http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329 to use my iPod to transfer my iTunes content to a new computer, I cannot sync the iPod to the new computer's iTunes. I see all my music in the iTunes Library, and have authorized my new iTunes, but the music won't sync.  When I hit sync, it says it's syncing, then a few seconds later says finished syncing, but nothing is on my iPod.  Can anyone help?

Did you review if the sync settings you had established for your iPod carried over? You might have to re-select what you want ynced.
Just a thought, if you are not getting any error messages.

How to sync my ipod 3G to itunes on a new computer without losing everything

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
Iphone will sycn with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.

  • Best way to restore iTunes contents on new computer.

The computer gods conspired to get me.  My Windows XP desktop failed beyond repair and I am getting a new Windows 7 desktop.  But also by some coincidence, my new external hard drive that I backup my system on weekly also failed.  I still have my previous external hard drive, however.  The last backup from that was the beginning of June.
So I am looking for the best way to get whole again.  I have NO downloaded music on the iPod (some music from CDs that I can reload).  I do have a number of apps however, some with a lot of data that would be difficult to replace (although updating from June would be doable).
If after installing iTunes on the new computer,I just synced to the iPod what would I lose?  Would it keep the apps data on the iPod?
Or should I install iTunes, copy my backup from my External drive to the new computer and restore from the backup?
    Thanks

  • How do I put the music on my IPod onto the ITunes on my new computer? Help

Just got a new computer. How do I put the music, ect. on my IPod onto the ITunes on the new computer?
I downloaded ITunes onto the new computer, plugged in my Ipod, and a box popped up asking to either erase or transfer what was on my Ipod. I'd read before we put up the new computer that all you have to do is click the Transfer button and it will put all the music, ect. onto the ITunes account. Well, it didn't work. The page where it shows the bar that shows the memory is on the ITunes and shows exactly what it did on the old computer, but that's it. There's no music, nothing. I logged on to my ITunes account, that did nothing. What can I do? There has to be SOMETHING. Thanks so much!

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How can I sync playlists from my iphone to a new computer?

I have a new Macbook Pro. I transfered the content of my itunes folder from my previous laptop to the new machine but playlists did not transfer. Now I have my playlists on my iphone but want to sync to new computer but Itunes warns me that if I sync my data on the phone will be replaced by the data on my computer, which I do not want to happen because then i would lose my playlists. How can I sync from the iphone to the computer?

    Hi,
I have just transferred my iTunes library from PC to new MacBook Pro and I have an inkling that you may not have copied over your iTunes library files properly from your old library. If you copy over your old library files properly (iTunes library and xml library file- found in iTunes folder on computer)then it should re-create all of your old playlists, ratings etc on new machine. There are lots of postings on this support forum and internet about transferring iTunes library to new computer, may help if you give a bit more detail about how you copied over library in first place and then work from there.

I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes on a new computer, but over 3 quarters of my music is missing. It seems that only the songs downloaded on itunes in the last 6 - 9 months have transferred. How can I get the rest of it to sync?

  • I want to move my ipod touch plus itunes to a new computer, how do I do this to ensure that I do not lose all my music

I want to move my ipod touch plus itunes to a new computer, how do I do this to ensure that I do not lose all my music?

    - iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    - iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Copy/move the iPod backup file from the old to new computer.  That file is located here and you may have to have show hidden files turned on.
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    - After all the stuff in on your new computer, restore the iPod from backup.

how can i sync music from my phone onto my new computer without losing it all? my old computer's hard drive crashed so it is unusable.

If you do not have a back up of the crashed hard drive you can download an app to copy from the iPhone to iTunes on the new hard drive.
I have used Pod2Mac.  There is also Pod2PC.
There are numerous choices, some free, some payed.  Do a Google search.

  • Transfering music from my iPod to my itunes on a new computer

a few days ago, the power surged and destroyed my computer, and I just got a new one. Today I installed iTunes to my new computer, and when I went to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer, I discovered that I couldn't do this. I checked the support section of iTunes for help, and only found information on transfering music while the old computer is still accessable. Since my old computer is dead, I can't access it to follow any of the steps of the guide, or disconnect my iPod from the iTunes on my old computer. Does anyone know how I can sync my iPod with my new computer and sync the songs from my iPod onto my new computer (rather than erase all my songs which appears to be just about the only option my iTunes is offering right now)?

How about this, I have an iPod that is synced to my friends computer. I finally got my own computer and want to transfer everything to this computer so I can add new stuff, but I want to leave my library at my friends house so I have a backup. So my question is, if I add stuff to my library on my computer and I reconnect it to my friends computer, will I lose the stuff I added from my computer?
If you click "erase & sync" if prompted, yes.
And also, do I need to go to my frineds house with my computer to transfer the non-purchased stuff?
    Don't steal music...
The reason I want to know is I dont want to lose the stuff I have added from my computer when I connect to my friends computer. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks in advance! =)
