Can't sync ipod

I've had my ipod for 2 years (1st gen). Today I went to sync it and got a dialog box that said "Songs on the ipod "bear's ipod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist." The songs are still on my pc but I can't get them to sync to my ipod. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have your iPod set up to sync only particular Playlists and one of the selected playlists is no longer present in iTunes. If it is, then simply OK out of that box and reselect the playlists you want to sync and hit apply and see if that clear it up.

I can not sync ipod due to 6gb of 'other', how do i get rid of this?

    Hello drumsdonkey,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines issues with free space, capacity, and a large amount of "other" space. While it refers to iOS devices, most steps are applicable for your situation as well:
iOS: 'Not enough free space' alert when trying to sync
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1503
One symptom of this issue will be displayed in iTunes where the Capacity indicator for the iOS device will report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the device. To resolve this issue:
    - Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
    - Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
    - Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
    - Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Can't sync iPod on Windows "Can't find file" message

This is my umpteenth problem with iTunes since getting Vista. Can't resist sharing that.
Problem: I sync my iPod (bought it two years ago; audio and video, it downloads some of my music, shows the progress on the "bar", then it gets stuck on one song, will sit there for five minutes trying to download and then gives me the error message "Can't sync iPod. Can't find the necessary file" or words to that effect. I try ejecting my iPod and while my iTunes goes back to normal, my I have to wait for my iPod to run out of power before it returns to normal.
I uninstalled iTunes and downloaded it again and got the same result. However, the newly downloaded iTunes still kept my old play lists so maybe it was not completely downloaded even though it disappeared from my computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

. when i plugged my ipod shuffle g1 in a few days ago itunes said the i had to restore my ipod. i did not want to but i had no choice cauz it already deleted my songs. after 5 trys it said "cant restore ipod"ipod". unknown error occurred (1418))(itunes did it by it self, i just put it in one very fateful afternoon. i spent 5 hrs on the computer and i still cant fix it) well i went to this web site to see if they could help me. i found something. it was a program for my ipod but by the time i downloaded it, it was too late. after a while plugging in my ipod "my computer" no longer reconized it as removable disk. a pop up comes up and says this device malfunctioned then my ipod disappears off the face of the earth. i would send it to the apple store but my warranty expired. bummer what should i do?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!umm i dont think anything can work towards our problem

  • Can't sync ipod, there is no disk in drive F

wat does that mean? does anyone know what kind of disk they are talking about? is it just a probmlem with my computer? does anyone know what i should do?
also, i was able to sync my music, but then i tried to sync some movies and videos and "can't sync ipod. There is no disk in drive F" popped up

i think i am having the same problem as well. i plugged my ipod in to my computer last night and it said something about scanning for problems...then it popped up my F drive saying that i needed to insert something into the F drive....
i have tried three different cords to hook up my iPod to my pc...I tried another usb port...so i am assuming that it is either my computer, the iTunes or the iPod...regardless of what it is, my iPod wont update. and when it says it is updating it's not.
Does ANYONE know what to do??

  • Can't sync ipod classic to new library

Hi, I have two ipods, an older 30gb and a newer 160gb. I only had one library, which I have synced my 160gb ipod to. I created another library because the original is too big for the 30gb ipod. When I go into this new library it, for some unknown reason, has about 3gb of my music in it. Anyway, if I try to sync the 30gb ipod with it nothing happens. The ipod is recognised, it seems like it is syncing for a few seconds then it tells me it is synced. However, there is nothing on it. The 30gb ipod is empty having restored it. It tells me the ipod software is up to date. Any ideas?

You can try another usb port, 30-pin cord, or restart computer. you can also sync seleted music using your other library.

  • How can i sync ipod to external hard drive ?

Help needed please, brief history,i have an ipod classic and using windows, friend came to tidy up itunes said he would delete doubles and he lost 3/4 of itunes in the process (not good) so ipod still had 150gig of songs on, but itunes was down 70gig with lots of tracks missing, after that i didnt not connect pod to itunes incase it removed tracks from ipod.
Now another friend (better) has transfers all contents of ipod to an external hard drive, and i have wiped itunes completly, thought it best to start a fresh, my question is when i turn my external hard drive(J Drive) on with all the music files how can i sync it to itunes to get everything back into itunes from the external ? i have gone into preferances and advance and changed the sorce to J Drive but it isnt finding anything...... please help

Do you want to keep your tunes on the external drive of have them back on your computer?
If you want them on your external drive, do this:
Go to preferences > advanced in iTunes. Ensure that 'Copy Files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' is NOT ticked. Now, in windows file manager, navigate to the folder where all your music is stored on your external drive. Drag this to itunes. It should import of the your music's data, but keep the files on the external drive
If you want them on your computer: Do the same but tick 'Copy Files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library'
    You should now be good.

How can I sync my iPod 3rd generation to my ipad air?
I have a cable to connect the two devices but, unlike my PC (which I am hoping to put away in the loft forever!) there does not seem to be a sync option in iTunes

  • Can't sync iPod with iTunes 11.05 (5)

Ever since the upgrade to 11.05 I can't sync my iPods and I have to force quit iTunes every time as the application is not responding. Before the upgrade everything was fine. I've tried plugging in the iPods and launching iTunes and opening iTunes and plugging in the iPods all with the same result... Application Not Responding. Also iTunes doesn't see my iPad now over wifi which it did before I have to plug it into the cable!!
    Great update guys... NOT!!

  • Can't sync iPod Touch 4th Gen after updating to IOS 6.0

I've updated my 64GB iPod Touch 4th Gen to IOS 6.0, but now I can’t sync it with iTunes.
It connects OK, but iTunes isn’t detecting what is already there - it thinks it is full of 48MB of “Other” (rather than music, apps, photos, etc.). In other words iTunes isn’t detecting what is already on the iPod properly (it just knows it’s nearly full of something).
So if I try to sync, iTunes thinks it needs to add all my music, etc. again, and therefore says it’s way over capacity (i.e. 48MB of “other” + 48 MB of all my music, etc.).
    Help! Any suggestions?

    - Try resetting the car system if you can.
    Sometimes this works
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However. sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility. In that case you will have to wait for a firmware update to either the care system or the iPod.

  • Can I sync iPod on another computer

I have an iPod nano that I had synced to another computer that crashed. I would like to sync my iPod to another computer without losing all my songs that are existing on iPod. Is this possible?

You can't do an iPod to computer transfer of song files using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can do an iPod to computer transfer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library.  You can then sync your iPod nano to that computer's iTunes library.

  • Can't Sync ipod 80G Classic

I just burned several cds that I purchased new that, after importing, only show up in my iTunes in the Recently Added folder in Playlists.  They do not, however, show up in Albums or Artists.  As well, they do not sync to my iPod at all.  Also, the playlist sidebars in iTunes and my iPod no longer match (apart from the recently burned cds that don't show up, other playlist folders that still show on my iPod no longer show on my computer--not sure how long that has been a problem).  I have not tried importing cds into iTunes for awhile, but it was definitely before I installed the most recent update to iTunes (as of 11.13.13).  I tried uninstalling the most recent update and installing a version from a couple updates ago to see if thast would help but I was unable to install an older version for some reason. Any ideas?

  • Can't sync iPod after upgrading to iTunes 11

I had a Windows XP computer with an older version of  iTunes which I synced (by cable) with my iPod Classic (version 2.0).  The XP computer recently crashed and I bought a Windows 8.1 computer on which I installed iTunes 11, and authorized the new computer.  I managed to restore my music to the new computer from backup, but now when I sync, newly purchased tracks are not transferred to the iPod. Also I can't seem to rip from CDs anymore, the "Import" window doesn't open when I put a music CD in the drive.  The tracks in my playlist purchased from iTunes have a "cloud" icon next to them, which I believe means they haven't been redownloaded to my computer but are on the iCloud servers.      I don't understand iTunes 11.  Does iCloud stop devices from syncing by wire?   I don't want iCloud or any new features, I just want my old functions to work!  Help!

Okay! Thanks! Followed the link to that threat and figured out the problem. I had moved iTunes to a sub-folder in Applications (for grouping together as a stack in the dock, something stacks should have been able to do anyway) and when it installed the new version it didn't check where the old one was, it just dropped the new one in Applications.
Everyone else who has this problem double check and make sure you don't have two different versions of iTunes: one in the applications folder and another that your dock shortcut directs to.

  • How many computers can I sync iPod/iPhone with?

I udnerstand that I can download media purchased from iTunes to up to 5 computers and play from the computers, and I know how to move tracks I rip from my own old CDs around.
However it seems like it need to sync all the media to my player from one and only one computer? Is that right? Assuming so, supposing I want to change that one special computer to a different one - how do I do that? I tried the help files and support docs on the site here, but I couldn't ever come up with an answer.
    Thanks!

Most iPods can be synchronized with multiple computers (the shuffle being the only exception I know of); you just have to set iTunes to manually manage the iPod. An iPhone, however, can only be synched with one copy of iTunes for media content (you can use a different computer to sync calendars/notes/etc).

  • Help please! Can't sync ipod with itunes among other problems

I reset my ipod deleting all information on it. Whenever I turn it on with the button on the top left the apple is lighted for awhile and then the screen fades to black. This is all my ipod touch does. My itunes doesn't recognize my ipod touch either. I thought that once I reset the ipod it would easily sync with itunes and put all my music, videos, and apps on it. Help please.

    Hi,
Under your post is says that you are using a docking charger to sync it????? Try using the cord that came with the ipod.
Can you get into the ipod to use it or is that all it does.
If you have jailbroken your ipod, this could be the reason for the problem.
You could also try holding the home and top left (on/off) button at the same time and wait until the apple logo come up.
    I hope this helps.

  • ITunes 8.1 Downloaded; Can't sync iPod Touch now!

Just a question to anyone out there who can possibly help me...
The other day I updated my iTunes software to 8.1, and now it won't sync my iPod touch at all. I've tried deleting and re-installing iTunes; I've tried resetting my iPod Touch; I've even tried downloading an earlier version of iTunes, but it says my library was created in a newer version and can't be used with an older version.
I've also read online on Google that others are having similar issues with their iPod Touches and iPhones.
Any suggestions? It's extremely frustrating knowing I can't add anything at all!

I have come to the conclusion that a simple uninstal does not remove all iTunes
you need to clear all files from Program Files ( apple tell you how to do this )
but you still have legion of references in Registry .
the only way to purge those is to manually remove ALL references to iTunes in the registry
That is the only way I have found to solve any and all problems with Itunes
Not what you want to hear no doubt
