Can't sync my shuffle 2nd gen of i tunes

i cnat sync my shuffle @nd gen, i just downloaded the newest version of i tunes but it does not wor. Itunes detect it but unable too sync.

If you have the sidebar visible, as describe in my first reply, the shuffle appears in the sidebar under DEVICES.  When you click on it to select it, it become highlighted in the sidebar.  Over to the right, it shows the Summary (or Settings) screen for the shuffle.
If you don't have the sidebar visible (it is hidden), near the upper right corner of the window, there is what I call the "device button."  If there is only your shuffle connected, it should say iPod.  Click it to select the shuffle.  The iTunes window shows the Summary (or Settings) screen for the shuffle.
Either way, your shuffle is selected in iTunes.

  • Can't Sync Certain Songs (2nd Gen)

Just bought a brand new 2nd Gen shuffle. I seem unable to sync certain songs to it. I'm not certain, but it seems to be songs that were copied into iTunes from audio CD's. Is this blocked in some misguided attempt at digital rights management? These are songs from CD's I own, which iTunes had no problem importing. Or is there some technical issue with imported songs that I need to address?

What format are the songs that won't move? Some formats that play in iTunes are not compatible with the 1st generation iPod shuffle, Aiff and Apple Lossless for instance. Apple Lossless is not supported on the 2nd generation shuffle:

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen. not working, music plays but doesn't sync\

    Hello,
I have an iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen since a long time and it always worked perfectly. But now it has stopped working well. It has music stored inside and it plays it, it evencharges from the pc, but doesn't sync in iTunes, nor it shows up on Desktop. On iTunes the message in Italian says idt couldn't be identified and to reconnect the iPod and retry. I tried the Reset Utility but it says my iPod isn' supported even if it is a 2nd Gen iPod. The only positive thing is it shows up on System Profiler.
I tried also turning off the iPod for 5 seconds and turning it again on, but the issue is still there.
    Have you got any suggestions?
    Thankyou

Actually it turns out I can't even add to it. It claims it's synced to another library (which apparently is true, being as it was last used with my Macbook Pro). Somewhat new question, How do I combine the two libraries, as it's all mine, just on two different computers, one of which doesn't work unless it's in Hard Disk Mode.

  • Apple iPod USB Device driver issue on Win XP - syncing shuffle 2nd gen.

Hello fellow iPod shuffle users. Any of you run into this problem using the following configurations? Any advise/recommendations/workarounds much appreciated as I've burned 3 days on this issue and I'm still stonewalled.
I personally think it's a device driver issue/bug and am searching for a way to update my Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Two brand new ipod shuffles (received for Christmas 2008) are both behaving this way, so the problem most likely points to a global software issue more-so than to shuffle hardware issue.
PROBLEM STATEMENT: Driver data i/o streaming issue does not allow shuffle to sync data with iTunes after initial sync (i.e. reading the content of the shuffle is good, but writing modified content fails). Posted error message "The ipod ... cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found". After cracking the hood on my device driver, the problem seems to point to the Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Driver will recognize the shuffle and read to it, but subsequent write attempts will result in device driver balks that "this device cannot start (code 10)".
    ATTEMPTED WORKAROUNDS:
*Read All "How to Get Started Manuals" to make sure I was using the right technique for syncing my two shuffles from within iTunes... tried and failed
*Ensure only one shuffle was plugged in at a time (saw notice that two shuffles plugged in at the same time is not yet a supported config)... tried and failed
*The 5 R's as recommended by Apple Support... tried and failed.
*I've tried all 3 built in USB ports on my Lenovo T60. no love... tried and failed.
*Per discussion board: From Window's Device Manager-> Scaned for new hardware while shuffle was syncing...tried and failed.
    * Per Discussion board: From Window's Disk Management -> Ensured shuffle came up as a FAT32 filesystem... connection tore down as quickly as windows recognized it.... tried and failed.
*From Windows Software config utility: Ran repair to re-install itunes 8... same results.
*From Windows software management utility: Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8... same results.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad/Lenovo T60. Using build in k/b & no external mouse. Has 3 USB built in ports.
Software: Windows XP Pro SP2/iTunes 8.0.2/shuffle (2nd gen) driver 1.0.4 (same behavior using the original driver 1.0.3).

  • Error 1429: IPOD Shuffle 2nd Gen won't sync or restore after itune9 install

    all,
After installing itunes version 9 I plugged my shuffle 2nd gen into the port but it froze when I tried to sync, the shuffle had previously been working fine with itunes 8. I disconnected and reconnected and itunes promted a restore. This could not be complete and an error 1429 message was returned.
After completting all the trouble shooting steps on the apple website the problem was still not fixed, and becasue I am using vista the iPod Shuffle reset utility wouldn't install.
I have been reading of similar problems, so anybody who has a solution or news from the ellusive apple tech support it would be great to hear from you.
    regards
    Rich

Thanks for the response. Yeah, all on that page and the linked pages. Very time consuming but it was working fine before loading itunes 9 so, it would be a waste just to bin the shuffle. Cheers

  • I have iPod shuffle 2nd gen. 1GB, how can I autofill it with more than 70 songs?

I have iPod shuffle 2nd gen. 1GB, how can I autofill it with more than 70 songs, when I used to be able to get more than l20+ songs?

Is your shuffle full after the Autofill?  Does the playlist you selected as the source have more than 70 songs?
My 2nd gen 1GB shuffle currently has 140 songs on it, almost 100% full using Autofill.  The number of songs depends on two factors.  One is the average length of the songs.  Longer songs take more space.  A 20-minute symphony takes more space than a 4-minute pop song.  The other key factor is the bit rate used for compression.
All of my songs are compressed using the AAC encoder at 256 kbps, which is Apple's current standard and the setting used for downloads from the iTunes Store.  The same songs compressed at 128 kbps AAC takes up half the space.  320 kbps MP3 would use more space per song.  If a lossless format, such as Apple Lossless or AIFF is used to encode, the sound quality is the best possibe, but the file size per song is MUCH higher.
If you think there is problem on the shuffle, you can try doing a Restore in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings tab.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. If there is data corruption on the shuffle's storage that is causing this problem, a Restore should fix it.

  • IPod Shuffle (2nd Gen) - All Appears Well, but No Music Plays through Buds

I recently purchased yet another iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen), after frying the 1st one. This one synched and played well for about a month. Recently during a run it stopped playing. I assumed it needed to be charged. I fully charged. iTunes recognizes it - and displayed all my music. However, it still wouldn't play any music through the ear buds. I tried the reset (toggle on / off hold) - didn't work. I put it back on iTunes and reset it back to factory settings, reloaded it with music, iTunes still recognizes it, yet still won't play. It appears to be functioning properly - except for the "playing of music" part. iTunes recognizes it, the music is displayed in iTunes. When I turn the shuffle on the light glows green, then goes out. When I push the volume up or down - the green light blinks once for each push. When I push the skip forward or back button the green light blinks once for each push. No orange lights anywhere. But no music plays. Please help!!

Just thought I'd post to say that I'm having the same problem.
Everything appears to be normal with my shuffle: iPod syncs, all the lights are doing what they're supposed to be doing, I can see the music I put on the shuffle.
I too went back to factory settings, reloaded tunes, etc. etc. I have also checked both the earbuds I'm using (they work) and tried the shuffle with other earbuds (earbuds I tested elsewhere and which also work)... no sound.
Is it possibly related to the recent iTunes software update 8.0.2 (20)? I ran it on Friday and things were fine on my shuffle immediately after. But the next time I tried to use it -- no sound.
That update is the only change I can think of that my shuffle experienced proximate to the problem.

  • IPod Shuffle (2nd gen) and iTunes 8.1.1.10 not synching...

My iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen seems to be unable to sync with iTunes 8.1.1.10 -- in a way. It is recognized in iTunes (shows up in sidebar, correctly labeled; I can view its content) and it will charge and autofill. However, it will not sync with iTunes and communicate playcounts or show me in any way that the autofill is occurring or has occurred.
I have used the "Restore" function and it did not correct the problem. Additionally, when I try to File>Sync iPod, the option is unavailable (not a clickable button/option). I really would like to be able to sync my playcounts again...
    Thank you!

Are you using iTunes for Windows to sync your 1G and 2G iPods? Reading through the forums, I've only seen this issue come up on Windows machines.
As I stated in my message above, the new release 8.2.0.23 has not resolved the issue. I've actually reloaded my computer completely at this point and the issue still exists. I've confirmed that the problem is not the iPod, as I was able to successfully erase and sync using a Windows XP machine and iTunes 7.4 then move music on to the iPod. When I went back to my primary machine, I did an erase and sync, but was unable to move any music on to the iPod. The iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen will show up in iTunes, but if you try to drag songs to the iPod, autofill or apply a change of setting, iTunes will state that it is "Syncing iPod. Do not disconnect." It will stay in this mode for 2-3 minutes and iTunes will be unresponsive during this time. Once iTunes starts responding again, nothing has been copied to the iPod and none of the settings changes have been saved on the iPod.
Please note that my 60GB iPod Video syncs without issue (and no, I'm not trying to sync both at the same time).

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd gen not getting detected in windows 7 64bit

i got an apple ipod shuffle 2nd gen and it is not getting connected in windows 7 64bit,but it perfectly works in windows 7 32bit,what to do.tried installiny itunes, reset etc.

Hey, I hear ya and can sympathize. I have the same
issue. The difference is that my computer can "see"
    my ipod but it refuses to show up in itunes itself;
therefore, I can't put anything on the ipod (from the
computer) and vice-versa. Apple support is clueless.
This is very frustrating to say the least. Itunes
keeps telling me that my ipod is synced to a
"different" computer, which isn't true. It's the
same computer. The difference is that when I first
got the 'pod and used it with this computer (and
everything worked fine), I was running XP. I
installed Vista and after that, all the problems
started. If I ever get this resolved, believe me,
    I'll post something here.
I'm guessing that somehow, itunes "sees" what
computer it's hooked to by "looking" at something in
the OS. Change the OS and it "thinks" it's seeing a
    "different" computer.
    Try reformatting it.

  • My Ipod Shuffle 2nd gen won't update!

I'm having trouble with my Ipod shuffle 2nd gen. Every time I try to update it, it won't update. And when I try to charge it, it will only charge when I'm not using Itunes. I really need my shuffle right now this month because I'm going on important trips and I don't mind listening to the same songs I already have on it but I really would like to have this problem fixed. I barerly got my shuffle 2 months ago, is there anyways I can return it for another one?! Please help!

How do you know if won't charge with itunes open? The USB port should be charging unless the PC is off, regardless of what software is running. But if that is the case, eject the ipod and close itunes.
You don't state whether you get any error messages. Does in give you a message the its syncing then finish and no songs transferred? Have you checked your settings on what library (music) it is being filled from?

  • Shuffle (2nd Gen) not been used for a few years - not working at all - any ideas?

My Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) has not been used for a long time and now will not give any reponse at all. It won't charge and it is not recognised by ITunes - is there anything I should do?

Sorry...  I did not notice your reply.
The initial blinking is good.  That means there is a connection between shuffle and computer.  But it should continue blinking or become a solid color (ON but not blinking).
It could be a problem with the battery.  If a lithium battery is left completely drained for an extended period, it can become unable to hold a charge.  However, it could also be a problem with the USB port (such as not enough available power or a USB device conflict).  As a test, you should try shutting down the computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including any hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle

Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle by itself to a direct USB port on computer.

    Hi MJ,
after reading a lot of posts concerning connection problems with the iPod Shuffle 2G I finally found a solution. A lot of people had similar problems because of broken or damaged connection cables, pins etc. but also because sometimes the USB plug didn't sit tight enough.
That's how I recognized that this was also the case with mine. I was able to move it quite a lot, even plugged-in. So I tried the second USB port that seemed to be a little tighter already. Nevertheless I still got the short amber blinking light when I plugged it in completely.
What did the trick for me was to pull the USB plug back out a little until a short green light appeared, then I pushed it back inside a little until I got an alternating amber light. At the same time iTunes recognized the iPod. Also the plug sat stable at this point and I didnt move it anymore until I disconnected again. In the beginning a tried this method a couple of times until it actually worked, as the point of the best connection seems to be really small.
So as it seems in the end it wasn't a software problem but one of a too loose USB plug. Probably buying a new cable could also solve your problem.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd Gen- Not Recognised by Windows 8.1 Laptop

    Hi All,
I have HP Laptop with .... Windows 8.1 / 4gb RAM / Intel i3 / 64-bit, i am trying to connect my Ipod shuffle  (2nd gen) to laptop but its failed in Itunes (i got updated one) as well as in Windows..
at the same time, the same ipod i can connect and use at windows XP computer.
is anyone there to help me out.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Rahul

Unfortunately, I use a Mac; I'm not a day-to-day Windows user...  When you connect your USB flash drive, it should appear as a device in a Windows view, like the one you provided as a screenshot.  When you connect your shuffle, if things are working normally, the shuffle should similarly appears as a device.  Whether it is recognized as an iPod or not, it should appear as a device.  If it does not, that means the USB (3.0) port (on your laptop) does not see that you have connected the shuffle.  If it does (appear in Windows), that's good news.  You may be able to trouble-shoot and fix the problem, using this document
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes - Apple Support
I suggested trying a self-powered USB 2.0 hub (if you have one), because the hub should be recognized as a device by Windows.  In the screenshot, it looks like there are two hubs already connected ("Generic USB Hub"), unless that is something internal that is identified as a "hub."  If a hub is older and works with the shuffle, then your laptop may be able to connect to the shuffle through the hub.
Here are two other things you can try.
    (1) You said the shuffle still works with your older PC.  Connect it to iTunes on that computer, and go to the shuffle's Settings screen (select shuffle in iTunes).  There is a checkbox for Enable disk use.  Check that box and Apply.  With this setting enabled, the shuffle acts like a USB flash drive (to Windows).  Maybe that will let Windows see it, and then iTunes will also see it (as an iPod).  NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it, because the iPod's disk is continuously mounted by the system.
    (2) If the above does not help, connect it to iTunes on the older PC, and do a Restore on the shuffle.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
It's a long shot, but maybe there is some kind of odd data corruption on the shuffle's storage that is causing the laptop to not see it (even though the old PC can see it fine).  After doing the Restore on the older PC, connect it to the laptop.
