Can't sync phone with 8.1 and external drive

Since upgrading to 8.1, every time I try to sync my iPhone, the external drive on which I store my music disconnects mid-sync, causing error messages for failing to unmount the drive before disconnecting it, and on occasion, corrupting my iTunes library. It's a Toshiba 320 GB drive, and it's fine with all other apps, and fine to play music from. It's only during syncs that this happens. I have repaired permissions and done most of the basic trouble shooting.

However, since doing that my iphone keeps coming up with the message Activation Required and then immediately goes into recovery. It appears to do this every time I sync with the icloud : -( I would book a genius appointment. HTH :-)

When I sync my iPhone 4 with my computer, it says it can't sync with my Yahoo account (as it has been for the past year) because I don't have an internet connection. I have wireless interent connection and I've checked everything - it's hooked up and I've tried to close out programs, restart etc. I have the latest iTunes version on my computer. OK, sounds like you are using Yahoo to store your contacts. If you're having a problem with this, it is highly likely it is on Yahoo's end since they often have server issues, but two things you can try:
If you're currently on wi-fi, turn that off and see if you can access your contacts via 3G.
Try deleting the Yahoo account off your iPhone and re-create it.
Last week my Yahoo account was acting buggy and didn't get resolved until I did both (turned off wi-fi, then deleted and re-created the account over 3G).

Battery Life with Macbook Pro and External Drive

I have a mid 2010 macbook pro with a 7200 rpm 500 gig internal drive and then a 1 terabyte external drive that I believe runs at 5400 rpm. I will be going on a trip tomorrow and I plan on watching some movies that I have made backups of while traveling. Will my battery last longer if the movies are stored on my internal or external drive? This may be an easy question but I know very little when it comes to power consumption. If I had enough time I would try them both on my own but I would like some input from others. Thanks! Also not sure if it matters but I am running lion the screen is 15 inches and it has the 2.8 processor with 8 gigs of ram.

Does the external disk have it's own power supply?
If it does it will not affect your MBP battery run time.

You should copy your iTunes library from the older computer to your new laptop using one of the methods described in this Apple support document.

It sounds like you are wanting to update the Apps that were synced over from your computer to your new iPhone 5s. If you are clicking Updates in the App Store in the bottom right corner, would you mind clarifying what happens when you are trying to update them?

When you synced in iTunes did you select your phone in devices on t left column and then click on tones int eh window on the right. When you synced did you tick all tones and tick sync and then click sync at the bottom of the window on the right? Was the ton ein the tones folder in the library folder?

Look under iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is there a backup listed for her phone? First thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. If you have not synced since screwing her phone up, restoring from that backup(if it exists) should restore her content. Do not sync after you restore her phone, eject it. So, first disable auto-sync on that same device pane in iTunes before you proceed. If this doesn't work, is your sister bigger than you? If so, run 'cause her data is gone .

It sounds like you are constantly needing to restore your phone because it keeps going into recovery mode. Usually putting a device into recovery mode and restoring it can help isolate an issue to your iPhone hardware if an issue persists afterwards. I would try manually putting it into recovery mode and restoring it 1 more time:

Can't sync contacts with Blackberry phone after migration to iCloud. The only way to do is to have a local copy of address book. What else can I do (before BB will fix the bug)?

Ah! This explains why I have been tearing my hair out for the past 24 hours trying to get my contacts from Address Book to my new BB Torch!
I found a workaround for a one-time sync:
1. go into Address Book prefs and temporarily change Default account from iCloud to On My Mac (this makes the "All on My Mac" category visible)
2. Go back into your contacts window, select all of your contacts, and copy them to All on My Mac (this will create duplicates of everything)
3. Sync the BB.
3. Return to prefs to change default account back to iCloud, and select all the contacts in All on My Mac and delete them, thereby removing all duplicates.
This solution only works for a one-time sync and needs to be repeated for future syncs.
Let's hope BB comes up with an iCloud compatible update ASAP!
