Can't sync photos (sync takes forever) but can sync music videos and apps
I can only get my ipad to sync if I deselect the option to sync photos. If I try and sync my photo library (~5GB, 5000 photos) the sync hangs. Itunes is responsive, but doesn't show a progress bar, just the diagonal stripes moving.
I left the sync for 12 hours without any progress. If I change it to just sync one directory within my photo library (~50 photos) I get the same thing.
Everything else seems to be working fine. Syncing takes a small number of minutes, if that. I've no idea whether this is due to my ipad, itunes installation, or photo files. It seems unlikely to be storage related as the music and videos are all stored on the same drive as the photos.
Anyone got any thoughts?
Try syncing half the photos. If it fails again, sync the other half.
If the second half fails, try syncing just 5 photos.
The reason for this is there may be a bad photo file in the group of 5,000 and doing half at a time will tend to indicate that if one of the half's sync but the other doesn't.
The group of five will tend to test if there are multiple bad photo files.
If the sync is successful with a smaller set, you then need to try to find the discrepant photo file(s).

If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), which might make it easier to navigate and my instructions may make more sense.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you've enabled the sidebar), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos e.g. :
If you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you haven't enabled the sidebar, then from your library click 'iPad' at the top right of the screen and you should get a series of buttons along the top of the screen, including one for Photos -

1 iphone3g, 2 Macs....can I sync music, video, and apps using both machines
I have a MacBook Pro for work and an iMac at home and would like to be able to add music or movies to my iPhone from either machine. I can do this with no issue with my 80gb Classic but it wants to erase and start over anytime I plug the iPhone in and try to do the same. I have manually manage music checked and I sync some photos and my apps on the iMac. If I uncheck the apps will it delete my apps from the phone? I suspect that is why it won't work on both machines...am I right?
You are correct. Unlike an iPod, the iPhone can only sync with ONE music library at a time. If you're interested in combining music from your 2 libraries, you'll have to add those songs from one computer to the other via a CD, DVD, thumb drive, etc., THEN sync your iPhone.

i have previously purchased music and apps and music videos on itunes on a different cpu but my ex wife broke it into million pieces in other words its been destroyed since then i have bought an iphone and now i bought a cpu and would love to get all those old purchases back so that i can put it into my iphone 5s i just purchased with att can u please help me recover these things i purchased i know the passwords user name and eben have the debit card i made the purchases with its ben two years i know i should have asked sooner but i didnt can u please help?
What you can redownload will depend upon what country that you are in (not all content types can be redownloaded in all countries) and whether they are still in your country's store (content providers occasionally remove their items from sale) - if you go into the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes you should see what you can re-download :
Or on your phone you can use the Purchased tabs in the iTunes and App Store apps. -
My iPad kept telling me that it was running out of memory so I deleted lots of pictures, videos,apps and music but I still don't have any memory. Is there anything else I can do/has anyone else had this problem?
After you deleted, did you reboot? Press ad hold the home and sleep buttons until the apple logo appears. Ignore the red slider. Stuff you delete sometimes does not get flushed away until you do that step.
Have you resynced? If so, unless you changed your sync selection on I tunes, all the stuff you deleted was put back on during the sync.
If you goto settings, general, usage there will be the space available at the top. And if you give it a minute, it will list all the apps you have,a along with their size. If you tap any of the apps it will then show the data and documents associated with those apps. You were right to go after videos first, along with music. -

i cannot sync,back up or add songs to my iPod Touch 5th generation 32 GB-whenever i make changes and click the apply/sync button it takes hours but still it doesn't sync or add music to my ipod............i thought there was a problem with itunes so i uninstalled it and downloaded the latest version but still the problem continued....the picture below shows how it looks after 28 minutes of syncing........

Help! I took some new photos with iPhone 3G, but can not figure out how to get the photos to transfer to my Mac when I sync. I have enabled the photo tab to sync (all photos), so I don't know what is wrong. Anybody?
Photos captured by your iPhone must be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera, which is not part of the iTunes sync process.
If you use iPhoto for your photo storage, you can use iPhoto for this.
Or you can use the Image Capture application located in your Applications folder.
The Photos tab for your iPhone's sync preferences is for transferring photos from your computer to your iPhone only. -
I can sync with my outlook calendar, but cannot sync with contacts or e-mail.

When I try to open Mail I get an error message saying "Cannot get mail. The user name or password for Gmail is incorrect". If I press "settings" it reverts to home page. I was revised to restore settings which I have now done, but the problem has not been resolved. Can anyone help?
i do have a gmail account and may have used this when I first set up itunes/ipad (I'm new to Apple). However, I want to synchronize with my Microsoft Exchange account.It may be a bit late for your needs, but there's a sync product for Outlook (an add-in) that will sync public and private folders/calendars. Sorry, but movies cannot be downloaded more than once without charge, so if you don't have a viable backup, you may be out of luck. You can, however, contact the iTunes Store, explain the situation, and see if they can make an exception for you.

How do I find out which computer I sync music, videos and photos on?
I am about to update my iPhone to iOS 4.2 but it tells me that to preserve my media, I should apply this update on "the computer where you sync music, videos and photos". How do I find out what that computer is?
You should be regularly backing up then you can just move your library to a new computer and sync there.
If you don't have one then you will have to transfer purchases (grab a 3rd party program for non-purchased content) and then sync to the new computer

I purchased an album on my PC and then sync it to my iPhone but in my music library in my phone the song appeared twice. Also everytime I deleted the song from my phone and redownload the song from iTunes to the phone it reappears twice. How do I fix this problem?
I've had the exact same problem, but with 72 songs that I can't get off of my phone!
Also, I have the setting set so that my phone does not show music that has been purchase on iTunes but is not synced.
