Can't sync via Desktop folder

My boss is having an issue with file syncing and I've been tasked with solving it. If he tries to sync files through the Creative Cloud Files folder in his Home folder, it fails with an "unable to sync" message. File type/name/size don't seem to matter as everything fails. If he uploads via the website it works fine AND shows up in the Creative Cloud Files folder as expected. It's only when trying to upload by placing files in the Creative Cloud Files folder that files fail. Tried logging out/in, turning sync off/on, no joy. He's running Mac OSC 10.8.4.

I have iTunes on. I disabled the windows firewall. I uninstalled AVG antivirus. I opened my router ports:

The problem persists. Many times the sync button is disabled on my iphone. I turn off and turn on my iphone and itunes and the problem persists.
I Use iTunes 10.6.1.7 and iOS 5.1.1. My router wifi is a cable router of movistar.

Firmware: P401-402TLF-C02_R35

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

I can't find my Desktop folder on any of my TM backups

Hi everyone,
This is my first forum post, and I'm downright desperate.
I have migrated from my old MBP to a brand new one this weekend, and used Time Machine in an external HD to move my data. I had TM set up since February, with no options/exceptions.
As far as I can tell, everything migrated to the new computer perfectly (applications, preferences, documents, music, cookies, etc) except there is nothing on my Desktop after migration. It just so happens that I have (had?) a folder in my Desktop with all my graduate school work.
I have already looked in TM in all the backups since February, and there is no Desktop folder in my user account folder in any of them. Does this mean that TM has never backed up my Desktop from the beginning???
(BTW, I'm also having trouble to simply search for specific files when I look into the TM backup folder in my external HD. Whenever I use Spotlight, it only finds stuff on other folders in that external HD, but it doesn't return any hits from the TM backup folder, even when I look for files that I can see there just by browsing. How can I solve this?)

Trouble is, I had Leopard reinstalled at the Apple Store when I bought the new computer, since the system was supposedly backed up. As far as I know, the old computer was wiped clean and Leopard reinstalled in about 20 minutes by a Genius.
I have been told by them after the fact to use Data Rescue II to try and scour the old computer's internal drive by booting it up in target mode, but I haven't attempted it yet. I was told that if the Leopard reinstall was done in a specific way, I would be able to get to the old files with Data Rescue II still with their names and folder structures if they haven't been overwritten. However, if it was done 'another way', I would have lost the folders and any recovered files would be restored to a new location under a generic name like 'recover000001'. I'm afraid that in this case I will be overwhelmed by all the files in my old system (even if DRII supposedly recognizes file types), and I won't be able to sort through all of them to get at my important work.
Does anyone know what is the best way to get my data back???? It will be two years of work down the drain if I can't access the contents of that folder on my old Desktop.

I don't understand. Why would it be that TM did not backup my Desktop? The Geniuses were not able to answer this question. I'm completely sure I didn't mark any exceptions when I set it up in February, and I've read other people also had similar problems with some of their folders and/or files (there's another thread where another user lost his Downloads folder; I accidentally replied to it instead of creating this new topic -- my apologies).

you have to use spotlight from TM interface, not directly from finder. start TM, scroll to a backup and use the search field to start a search.

I didn't have any problems with the old computer. I was actually giving it to my mother for Mothers Day as her first Mac, and I wanted to make sure she would have as 'brand new' Mac experience as I could provide her.

this is your one and only hope of getting anything back if you did an erase and install. if you did an archive and install then old your old data will be in the "previous systems" folder at the top level of the hard drive.

Thanks. You reckon professional data recovery services would come up with more stuff (especially filenames and folder structures) than I would be able to, if I tried using DR myself? I'm terrified of going through my whole HD and sorting out the hundreds of thousands of files that weren't in the desktop in the first place.
I appreciate your help, V.K.; I still cannot get over the fact that TM can be so unreliable. What could have caused this catastrophe on my computer and in other users? They were lucky that they still had their data when they noticed TM wasn't backing it up, and the solutions were bone-chillingly similar to Windows voodoo tricks (e.g. delete the old TM plist, hard reboot, pray, and see if it works now). If this is the case, I can't see any options other than doing full manual backups periodically, but that defeats the TM purpose in the first place. Any thoughts or ideas?

Makes it really hard to even know you were temporarily infected, let alone how, why, what damage, etc.

How can I sync just one folder of photos

I have created a photo folder which I want to use to sync photos with. I set up iTunes to sync just that folder. I added 4 new photos to the folder on my iMac, then tried to sync, butt he photos were not sent to my iPhone. Why not?

Can I sync a desktop, laptop and iPhone?

I want to sync my desktop, laptop and iPhone - I am able to sync 2 of the 3 - but not all 3 of them.
Is it possible to sync them all?
If not, if I bookmark something on the one that isn't synced, then it won't be added to my iphone (for example).

You are talking about the menu bar of Itunes, right?
Yes. With iTunes open the menu bar is at the top of your screen.
where exactly is the Store/synck you iphone option?
After you authorize the computer connect your iPhone then follow the instructions here > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
When you are done transferring the data to the desktop, right or control click the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window then click Back Up.
That way you will have a backup just in case you need to restore your iPhone.

Thanks for confirming that. I'm also assuming that you have some files in your Creative Cloud Files on the web.
It looks like there is a problem communicating with the server. This could be because of firewall rules on your network. Are you able to connect to a different network to see whether you can sync there? For example, if you are currently trying to connect at work, could you try from home?
For us to investigate this more thoroughly, I'd be grateful if you could provide your log files, following the instructions below. Could you zip them up and send to me at [email protected]?
There's a separate log file for each day. Please send the most recent log file. Here's where to find the log files:
Mac:

(where 2014-MM-DD is the date of the log)

It would require a ridiculous amount of discs. 1TB minus around 880GB of free space means it is currently using maybe 200GB or more. Backing up would take almost 300CDs or 43 DVDs. But here is another way to solve your problem. Instead of backing up and reformatting, you could download some add-on software to make your Mac read and write NTFS. I am not well versed in using NTFS, but my understanding is that you can download software like Paragon NTFS (paid) to get this done. I have heard that there are free options but again, I don't know them very well. Until someone comes by with more info that I don't know, you can do a web search on "NTFS Mac" to research more about your options. You will find links to software and how-to articles.

Can you sync via Airport Extreme?

Just curious if anyone knows if it's possible to do this... I have an Airport Extreme base station and connect my MBP wirelessly. You can accesss a shared external hard drive or a printer via the base station's USB port. But can I access/sync my iPhone from my MBP via that port? Is there a cheat that could accomplish that? Or does it just need to go into the suggestion box?

All you need to do is enable File Sharing on the iBook. Then the G5 should be able to see and access the iBook.
If you want to see the G5 from the iBook, enable File Sharing on the G5.

Can you sync Palm Desktop addresses to Address book?

I stopped using my Palm pilot long ago, but i still use the Palm Desktop application for the contacts and addresses. Is there a way to sync these addresses from Palm Desktop to Mac Address Book?

No, not explicitly.
You can typically export Palm contact data from the Palm Desktop as a vCard file and import it into the Address Book, and you can export Palm event data as a vCal file for import into iCal.
Palm task data cannot be exported into a form suitable for import into iCal, and there is no freestanding application into which you can import Palm memos.

How can I make a desktop folder invisible?

At one time I hid a folder on my desk top. To pull the folder up, I had to launch Finder and hit "Command+Shift+G" to get to the folder. My problem is, I forgot how to hide the folders and I'd like to do this again. (I did a factory reset and I'd still like to have that hidden folder). Any help would be great.

to create a hidden file/folder, simply add a "." in front of it from the terminal:
cd pathtofolder
mkdir .hiddenfolder
exit
to revert to back the default:
apple defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles False
killall Finder
exit
OR making your folder visible by default:
cd pathtofolder
mv .hiddenfolder hiddenfolder
exit

I can't sync my pics folder

I had synced all pictures when I initialized my ipad2. But when I tried to add new pics from a different computer, that had iTunes all the old pics got wiped out and now nothing gets added.

Only the contents of the most recent photo sync remain on the iPad, so if you didn't have the originally synced photos on the second computer (and included them in the sync) then they will be deleted from the iPad - not including photos in a sync is the method by which they are deleted from the iPad.
