Can't tag my MP3 files

Hello!
My problem is, that i can't tag my MP3 files in iTunes. Here's a screenshot in German, because I'm from Austria. But I'll translate if i you want to.

PLEASE help me!
Best regards, Mosa!

Make sure you have FULL control over the entire folder where that song is. It might even be a permissions problems on the folder(s) above it.
Also in Vista, it sometimes isn't enough to have read/write control. You need FULL control.

    can't import my mp3 file on my computer at work but the same format will successfully import on my computer at home.  Only difference is that work runs win 7 32 bit and home win7 64 bit.
    can anyone help on this
    regards,

    iTunes seems to be quite fussy and may refuse to play/add MP3 files other palyers accept.
    If you have the CDs you could try resaving them. Also some tag editors claim to have repair abilites. For example this one:
    http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/
    Or there is a repair tool here:
    http://www.drtag.de/en/description_mp3rt.htm
    I haven't tried these myself and it is always a good idea to work on copies of files if you are experimenting.

  • How do you force itunes comments to ID3 tags in MP3 files?

    I have comments all throughout itunes. The mp3 files do not have those comments in the ID3 info.
    How do you force itunes comments to write out to ID3 tags in MP3 files?
    The folder and files all have write permission.

    Yeah, don't do that, you probably also degrade the sound quality... If you've confirmed it is something odd with multiple tags try this.
    Select a group of mp3 files (You might want to start with a smart playlist so you don't mess with any other format)
    Right-click and use Convert ID3 Tags > None (may need to repeat this step if multiple tags)
    Then right-click and use Convert ID3 Tags > v2.3 (v2.4 support still patchy from various accounts)
    Downside is that it will lose any embedded artwork, but it should preserve all other meta-data, both tag-based and stored within the library itself.
    In fact, if you use my CreateFolderArt script before and after updating the tags it should archive any artwork as a local Folder.jpg image for each album and then reinsert that image on the subsequent run... Check it out on a single album first. If it doesn't work as expected let me know and I'll tweak the script to achieve this end.

  • Can you save an mp3 file that you receive as an attachment to an email?

    Can you save an mp3 file you receive as an attachment to an email?

    Irwinwilliam-
    With other attachments, you can press and hold on the attachment icon.  One of the options that may appear is "Open In".  Choosing that, any App that is capable of reading the attachment should show up as a choice.  When opening the document that way, a copy is transferred to the App.  I have not tried with an MP3 file.
    For MP3, I think the Music App should be a choice.  If so, the file should then appear with your other music.
    If an inappropriate App appears in "Open In", you may be able to use it as a conduit to transfer the attachment to your computer.  Run iTunes on your computer with the iPad connected.  Select the iPad under DEVICES, and click on Apps at the top of the window.  Scroll down to File Sharing and select that App.  If successful, your document will appear to the right in the Documents window, where you can select it and Save As.

  • Why can't I delete mp3 files from my Trash?  They are not locked.

    Why can't I delete mp3 files from my Trash? They are not locked.  I compressed them into a zip file and then couldn't delete that file either.  I've restored them and tried deleting again but no luck.  Can anybody please help?  iOS 10.8.5

    You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on solving Trash issues. You can also try using Trash It! 5.1 to fix the problem. Or you can try this:
    Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and paste the following at the prompt:
         sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash/*
    Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the screen. Press RETURN again.

  • ID3 tags in MP3 files

    Hello everybody!
    How can I read the ID3 tags from an MP3 file? Not just the title, artist and album. All of that. I know the last 128 bytes are reserved for ID3 tags in version 1. But in version 2 (and over) have a lot of other tags, like the album picture (APIC), year (TYER). So how can I do that?
    By Gericop
    P.S.: I don't want to use a 3rd party package...
    Edited by: Gericop on Feb 2, 2008 7:17 PM

    It's not an XML format. If you read this last 128 bytes, you can see title, album and some more infos, but you have to parse it yourself. That isn't hard. But I don't know, how can I determine the v2 tags (and their size).

  • Setting MP3 ID3 tag renders mp3 file useless

    Hi guys,
    I'm using the Java MP3 class Library from www.id3.org and am trying to set the artist and title of my mp3s.
    If anyone has used this library, do you know how I might set this information?
    I've tried using the TagContent object supplied by getArtist() and getTitle(), furthermore I have tried creating a new TagContent and applying the tag to the file, but it just throws exceptions when I next try to read this information from the file.
    e.g I have tried this:
    MP3File f = new MP3File(new File("D:/"),"1999_Prince.mp3");
    TagContent tc = f.getArtist();
    tc.setContent("PRINCE");
    f.setArtist(tc);
    f.update();and also this:
    MP3File f = new MP3File(new File("D:/"),"1999_Prince.mp3");
    TagContent tc = new TagContent();
    tc.setContent("PRINCE");
    f.setArtist(tc);
    f.update();This example only changes the artist to capital letters (I'm just experimenting with the code), but it means when I come to read the file again, I can't read the artist.
    Thanks in advance for any ideas,
    Richard

    Hi,
    I just tried it out too, I was lookin for some java mp3 classes and these look great. I used your code to rename a couple of files as a test and it worked. Onlt difference was I used the single string constructor rather than the (file, String) one. I think that it might be interpreting your D:\ as being the name of the file and it cant find it. I'd try the String,String constructor instead eg ("D:\","file name"). These classes look really interesting. I might create a decent java mp3 editor with um at some stage if I get time!

  • How can I put my mp3 files into my iTunes library? Every time I download a song from a website and try to drag it to my library, it won't add on. How can I fix this?

    Back then when I had the older update with iTunes i never had this problem with trying to put my mp3 files of music into my iTunes library. Now it doesn't want to be put into the library. Once I try to drag the music file to the iTunes library nothing happens, it just keeps showing a cancellation sign with my mouse. So how can I fix this?

    Hi William.
    The problem is probably that the index is corrupt and you need to completely re-create it rather than rebuilding individual mailboxes. I have no idea what the situation really is now after having tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/, though, so the following procedure may or may not work.
    Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
    The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
    After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • How can I edit a mp3 file and drop it in an iMovie project?

    I wish to edit an mp3 music file so that I can drop a piece of it into an iMovie project. iMovie's audio tools are very rudimentary---one can reposition a music file, shorten it, etc but cannot pick a piece of it to complement a movie segment.
    So I dropped the mp3 file into GarageBand. I deleted the first section of the song, then selected the 16 second piece I wanted to include in my iMovie, using the copy command. Then I pasted the piece into a new GarageBand project screen. The piece wouldn't play, and when I selected "export" the piece neatly went to where I wanted it, but again with no sound.
    So simply: how do I edit an mp3 file (cutting a piece of it) and then save it so I can apply it to an iMovie? Help!

    it should have played, but you can do it easier by exporting just the section you want:

  • Can't move my mp3 files Using my new asus notebook with window 8 and iTunes 11.0.2 version.

    HI,
    Need help and advises on why I can't move the converted mp3 files to my iTunes playlist. Was okay with my old dell notebook.
    it keep show ' link' when I drag the file to the playlist but can't click in...
    please help !!,

    Hi rachel65,
    From your description, it sounds like you are prompted to "link missing files" when attempting to modify/move certain items. iTunes has lost track of the actual song file that is on your computer, and we'll need to instruct iTunes on where this file is located. The following information will assist you in tracking down these missing files:

    If you can't find your media, you may be able to download it again if you originally purchased it from the iTunes Store:

  • I can't import my Mp3 files

    I'm coming from a PC over to Mac. I have a whole bunch of MP3 that I played on my PC but when I try to import them into iTunes on my Mac nothing happens. No errors or anything, just nothing happens.
    Here is what I've tried. I took a thumb drive and copied some of the songs on to it. I created a folder called Music on my Mac HD. I then tried simple importing into iTunes by going to File | Add to Library | selecting my files | click Open. No errors, no messages....but the files don't show up in my iTunes Music Library either.
    I then tried copying them directly to the Macintosh HD | Users | My User | Music | iTunes | iTunes Media | Music | Artist folder. Same thing, no errors, no message, no files copied.
    Any suggestions? I'm extremely frustrated with this. My frustration level is already high because of the differences between PC and Mac. This is only making me question my jump to Mac even more. At least on a PC I would get an error message so I would have some kind of clue as to what the problem is. Mac, I get absolutley nothing.

    The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about headers. If you search the web for "mp3 repair" you'll find a number of repair tools. Here is a one I've seen mentioned:
    Mp3 Validator Mac version
    I haven't tried it myself, not having ever had problem MP3s, so I can't attest to how well (or indeed if) it will work, but it would be worth a try.
    Note that just dragging tracks to the iTunes folder will not add a track to iTunes. Other than the Automatically Add to Library folder, iTunes has no folder-watching capabilities.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can color tagging a full file name be restored in OS 10.9.2?

    Can color tagging of a full file name, rather than just a tiny dot, be restored to OS 10.9.2, as was possible in 10.9.1?

    You can use one of the third-party Finder alternatives. Path Finder, XtrFinder, Total Finder. I've never used them so I can't recommend.

  • Why can't I add mp3 files to iTunes for Mac 12.1?

    I recently tried to add some mp3 files downloaded from a website that don't have DRM (it's folk dances for us to practice to) to iTunes 12.1 but without any success. Attempt to drag and drop the files from the downloads folder are ineffectual as though I've tried to perform a prohibited action.  I've tried using Import to Library but again without success.  I've searched for the files by name as I saw some reports that files were added but not visible in the library list until searched for - nada.  The files aren't old and the website is a well managed secure site so I am not thinking this is some dodgy file issue.
    Any help gratefully received - I'm brave enough to do a bit of 'Terminal' tinkering but am no expert.
    Thanks

    Hey Wellington Boots, I think I may have find an answer for you... and myself ; )
    Is it possible that you brought back your music from a backup or time machine?
    If so, make sure you have the proper rights on that specific folder... To check that do the following:
    Go into the finder in the iTunes folder: /Users/youruser/Music/iTunes
    Then right click on the iTunes folder and choose Get Info in the menu
    Unlock the properties by clicking on the lock icon in the lower right of the window
    Then in the bottom matrix make sure your username is in the list with Read & Write
    If it's not present (or you can't add it for some reason) click on the staff Name and change it's Privilege to Read & Write
    Now one more step, click on the settings wheel at the bottom middle of the window and select Apply to enclosed items
    This step may take a few seconds or minutes if you have a lot of music.
    Once this is done you should be able to easily add music in itunes.
    ScreenShot of the Get Info details
    Have fun.

  • Why can't I add mp3 files to itunes?

    I'm running iTunes 11.1.5 I've been able to add mp3 files to iTunes by going to file-->add folder to library-->and selecting My Music. I have 5,000+ mp3 files in that folder that USED to play fine on itunes, but they don't show up! I can still play a song by double clicking, but it doesn't stay in my iTunes library. Any ideas? Or is this just a really annoying bug?

    I'm having this problem too. Not with all mp3 files, just some. But this particular file I can't even double click to listen.......
    Hope you get a reply!
