Can't text/video/audio...my ichat is BROKEN!

HELP!!
i went to the apple store yesterday to get help with my mac and ichat because i wasn't able to video chat with my friends. it kept sending me a message saying that there was a communication error. fine. when i went to the applestore they reinstalled everything and updated my computer. when i got home to atleast text chat on my laptop it wouldn't let me. when i click on text chat it gives me a totally blank screen!! when i text and send the message its just blank! please help....

There are dedicated VoIP routers out there mostly sold with Vonage or similar deals.
(VoIP uses SIP as well)
these can cause problems if the are in-line between computer and modem.
There are also some modems that Bind SIP to port 5060 and cause some Intermittent looking problems for iChat (some buddies successful, others not and some now and then)
These are mostly Thomson-Alcatel Speedtouch models and some Drayteks
The Speedtouches are popular as domestic devices on the Continent. (and Australia)
Older ones can have this Binding undone.
Also some ISPs are now offering VoIP services and block the SIP ports until people pay more. Usually telling them they have blocked an app you were using sorts this for free.
Of course hotels are starting to sue VoIP for cheaper international calls.
Another thing with hotels is the amount of people sharing the connection.
It is like a freeway it is slower when it is full of traffic.

Why can't I video/audio connect 2 Macs when I can text successfully?

I have been successfully using iChat (5.0.1 + Snow Leopard) for some time. However, a Mac (Leopard) using friend and I can't seem to audio or video between ourselves. We can text though. I see him as available in black in my Recent Buddies list and also see his photo image. He only sees me in grey (although I am available) and in place of my photo image he sees a mobile me cloud.
If I try and audio or video call him it 'waits for response', then says its 'starting a chat' then says there's a 'communication error' and it 'didn't receive a response'. Although I am greyed, he can try and unsuccessfully call me. Also, despite us both having .mac addresses (and he has never used AIM), he appears i my AIM Buddy List?

iChat was developed as an AIM client first and foremost.
This means Apple came to an Agreement with AIM that @Mac.com names and later MobileMe @me.com name are recognised as Valid AIM Screen Names.
It sounds if your Buddy either has the Firewall Blocking iChat (Allow Essentials in Leopard does not work as iChat is Not an Essential App) or he has some setting in iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security that is either not allowing you or is actually Blocking you.
It is possible that his modem does not like Logging in on Port 5190 on the TCP Protocols and getting Buddy List feedback on port 5190 on the UDP Protocol
He should try go to iChat > Preference > Accounts > Server Settings and changing the Port to 443 (He will need to use the Accounts Info Tab first and deselect "Use this Account" to Log out of AIM)

Brutal error message OSStatus error 2003332927 Can not record video/audio

I have QT pro 7.6 and since a couple of weeks ago, I have been unable to record video or audio.
Any Ideas what this error code means and how I can fix it?

Hi there.
After further testing I have found that the reason I was receiving the Brutal Error, was because of my DigiDesign Core Audio Driver.
If I am using the MBox, and Digi Core Audio, (i.e Mbox I/O is active) Quicktime Pro will not record video/Audio.
If however I switch back to the Mac audio out (disconnect the MBox), Quicktime Pro works fine.
I havent had time to "fix" the problem in the Digi Core Audio, but this was the source of my Brutal Error Code.

Video/Audio on iChat not always working

I am trying to iChat with my friend (video/audio), but the green calling button won't show up next to her name and mine either. Even when I right click on her name it won't let me video. We have videod before so it's not like it has never worked. We even did it earlier today. I don't know what's wrong!

Odd that it should change during a Session.
Have you truned Off the camera ?
This is a setting in the Video Menu of iChat. In iChat versions 3, 4 and 5 it reads "Camera Enable" in Version 6 is reads "Video Chat Enabled"
In either case it should be ticked. Selecting it toggles the tick and the Function On or Off.
Next check the View menu.
This should have Show Video Status ticked.
IF it appears that these are both ticked then return to the Video Menu and aopen the Connection Doctor > Capabilities and tell us what it says (Are they all green ?)

Can you embed video/audio in a captivate file?

i was wondering if it's possible to somehow embed video/audio files in a captivate slideshow so that no sidecar files are required?
or will i always need to keep seperate linked mp3 and flv files along side the captivate file?

okay thanks shekhar for you reply : ) i don't have much experience with captivate, only flash.
i think i've figured out that when inserting an audio file (e.g. .wav) the file is actually embedded in the cptx file, meaning you don't need the .wav file as a seperate file (like for example the way linked files in indesign work).
however, for video files, i still don't know if it works the same way. are the files embedded? or linked?
let me put it this way: if i have a captivate file that has video and audio in it and i want to move the project to a different computer - do i need to take only the cptx file? or do i need to also move some media files as well?

I can't receive Video Invites to Ichat with my friend and They can't see them from me.

Ive gotten Ichat and Only have one friend in my contact list (Only friend who has a Mac)
We are both using a MacBook Pro 13" with Lion OSX (I think, The newest software available from Apple)
Anyway back to the point, We cannot seem to recieve invites from one another. Our WebCam Light goes on when we try to send an invite or press that Green Camera button, But we cannot accept or see eachother. We can still chat using messages though. But we want to Video call.
Also My internet does not have a password if this makes any difference. Its just like Wifi.
We both have AIM Accounts and also made a Yahoo account just for experimental purposes only. It still doesn't work either way. Dont know whats wrong.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,
You should both enable UPnP as the method ot open ports in your routing device.
If your router Blocks Pings from the Internet you should also disable this (ichat sends s ping to confirm where the visible Invite went to is the place that is replying)

I am currently using the firewire port on my macbook pro to record dv from my camera. Can I capture video/audio using my USB port as well?ra

I've been connecting a sony PD170 via firewire to my Macbook pro to record directly using Quicktime pro. Can I use the usb port (and mini audio in) to accomplish this with a camcorder that doesn't have a fire wire port but does have USB out?

It could just be a bad disc - I use Verbatim and have only had one fail in a ten-year time period. Try getting a batch of Verbatims and see if you have any problems. I didn't even know that there were Kodak branded discs...

Can't record video now in iChat 5

I'm quite new at this - using a logitech camera with the standard iChat v 5 (not sure what AV is) but I know I've recorded a short video before just under Video - Record - I believe. (I have done a clean install since the last time.) Only now the only option is "Record Chat" and is grayed out. I just want to record a video to send for an interview without being in a chat & I'm quite stumped by it now.
This may be an inappropriate board but i didn't see one for iChat5. Any refs or suggestions much appreciated - perhaps I need other software?

1) Is a Video chat open when you looked ?
Some menu items only become active when the "right' window is Open and Front.
2) A possible is that you have Encryption ON.

Can you name video/audio tracks in FCP?

instead of V1, V2, V3... can you title or name these tracks?

I used to think it would be cool, too, way back when Media 100 was Avid's main competition. But M100 talked us out of it.
It's only a good option if the names carry through to EDL and other output options from FCP (or Avid, whatever an Avid is).
I've worked on huge audio projects, 24-30 tracks. I've never been particularly lost and I've never worked on a system where naming the tracks was possible. So it has never really struck me as useful or desirable.
Personally, I'd like to see tons of things FIXED before Apple starts adding more features and options but be sure to drop this request into the FCP FEEDBACK folder.

How can I play video/audio to an AV Receiver?

I have my iMac connected to a Denon AV receiver and the properties of the AV receiver show up under display properties in system preferences. I have the obtion to mirror the display but when I do, nothing comes through on my home theatre system.
I just cannot figure out how to get the video and audio to play on it now.
The Denon is connected via a mini display port/HDMI cable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure I fully understand the problem. Does it not work when you take it out of mirrored and run the two displays in extended display mode (use Arrangment to arrange the two monitors)? Of course you need to chang your Sound preferences to use the hdmi conneciton as well.

I have used the iPad with a newer projector and the iPad screen appears to project all the pixels or at least all the content.
In Keynote on an older 640x800 projector, only a smaller portion of the iPad screen projects. I played the Composite Adapter on my TV and saw the full edge-to-edge content.
My MacBook 'knows enough' to reduce the screen size when attached to the 640x800. Not so with the iPad.
Bottom line, I have to reduce the size and center material on the Keynote slide to capture all the content when I use the lower resolution projector.
Am I missing something?
Also, is the Headphone jack still active when using the 30pin Composite Adapter? Otherwise I need RW RCA to 3.5mm adapters from the composite to use external speakers.

I can't stream video/audio with any browser

I use firefox and Safari. I tried to listen to 923freefm.com and other streaming radio sites, and i havn't been able to find a browser that will stream.
I'm having this problem with Safari, Firefox, Netscape etc. I just bought a Mac, i havn't had this problem with my old PC.
Can anyone help?

Yes i have it, but i bought a Mac with an intel processer. Flip4Mac doesn't support my computer just yet, i think i'm totally out of luck until that point.
You can force Safari to run in PowerPC emulation mode which will probably allow you to use Flip4Mac in the meantime. To do this, select the Safari application icon in the Applications folder and press command+i to see the program properties. In there should be an option to run in 'Rosetta' mode, check that and then quit and restart Safari.

IChat AV won't let me have a video/audio conversation

When I try to have a video/audio conversation, iChat says the communication couldn't be established for I have not responded to the invitation (even when I launch it).
Last year I used iChat and iSight while connected on an air port station; today, i'm using an ethernet connexion, I've tried to solve my problem by opening and closing different ports from the firewall but it doesn't work.
What can I do?
