Can't tranfer libraries between computers

I just got a new laptop and I have a shuffle. Unfortunately I have downloaded music ona few different computers and I am trying to consolidate on my new laptop. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Computer will recognize the shuffle only if I click "yes" to the initial question of do you want to replace the current songs on the iPod with those in this library. If I say no to that then it disappears. I say yes and it erases all the songs on the shuffle. Can someone help me please!!

Here's another possible approach from Kim Komando:
Q. My son has an iPod. He has downloaded many songs and videos from iTunes. Can I store his music and videos outside my computer?
A. Yes, you can move the iTunes music folder. But if you want to maintain his playlists, ratings and history, you must do it correctly.
First, open iTunes preferences. In Windows, click Edit>>Preferences. In Mac, click iTunes>>Preferences. Click the Advanced button. Make sure that "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" is selected. Then click OK.
Now, reopen iTunes preferences. Click on the Advanced button and click the Change button. A window will open that allows you to navigate to a new location for the iTunes library folder.
Click the New Folder button and create a new folder to contain the library contents. Name the folder and click Create. Then click Choose in the Change Music Folder Location window.
In the Advanced window, click OK. You'll receive a message that the location of the library contents will be changed. Click OK.
Next, click the Advanced menu in iTunes. Select Consolidate Library. You'll receive a message saying that the music will be copied to the iTunes folder and that the change cannot be undone.
Click Consolidate. Now you can delete the original iTunes music folder. However, be careful not to delete the iTunes library files. These will be in the same location as the iTunes music folder. If you delete them, iTunes won't recognize the songs in the library.
Since it is easy to download a lot of music from iTunes or to rip music from CDs, it is a good idea to store it on a separate hard drive. I have one on my computer dedicated solely to my music files. You should also take the time to back this drive up. You never know when disaster will strike!
Perhaps this will help.

    Hey lindsay146,
Home Sharing lets you to stream or transfer music, movies, and more with up to five authorized computers in your household. You can learn more about it in this link:

  • Why can't I share between computers?!?

I am trying to share music between two of my home computers and I have followed the directions in the help section but there is one big problem.  It says to click the box in preferences under sharing to "look for shared libraries" but there IS NO BOX that says this.  Both computers say that sharing is on but I can't see the other on either one.  I know I used to do this all the time and had no problem.  Don't know why its got to be so difficult now.

What operating systems are you using and how are the computers networked?

  • Can you share music between computers and seperate ipods?

I would like to know if I could share my itunes with someone on a different computer and with a seperate ipod. Me and my sister (who's in college) would like to continue sharing music because we usually split the cost of cds.
My main question is: Is it possible to share one itunes account with multiple ipods that can be accessed from any computer?
What we would like to do is continue sharing music without having to wait until both of our ipods are in the same location and using the same computer. It would be nice if I could get into the same account as her and when she adds music I also receive the music and when I add music she gets it as well.
This may be an impossible request but I have been searching the forums for hours trying to figure it out. If someone could please respond, even if it's not possible, that would be VERY helpful.
    Thanks.

What you want is not supported with iTunes. You can both use the same account on different computers but what one downloads or adds will not be available to the other. If you are separated by location then CDs or DVDs recorded as data files are the best option. Record the files to disk then mail the disk. As long as you are both authorized to the same iTunes account I don't know of any issue with that.

  • Can you share libraries between two different version of iTunes?

My school recently got MacBook Pro's for everyone, and we are allowed to put our music on them to listen to during study hall. I was just trying to transfer my iTunes library on my Windows computer over to my MacBook, and the home sharing doesn't show that they're on the same network. They're using the same wi-fi and I used the same account on both, but the Windows is on iTunes 11 and my MacBook is on iTunes 10. I can't download 11 on to my MacBook without a tech at the school's authorization, so I'm stuck with 10 on that one and 11 on this. Is that why the home sharing won't work? If so, there isn't anyway I can revert this one back to 10, is there?

    Yes,
on the device login using the other persons account and go to app store. Check for apps not yet downloaded onto this device and you will see what you are missing from the other account. You can then download it onto that device and use it.
You then go to settings and store and go back to your own account. When you come to updates though, the apps bought using the other account will not update unless you login using the others persons apple ID or at least know their password.
My wife and I have the same apps distributed across two iphones and an ipad using a mixture of either's apple IDs.

  • Photoshop CC - Can't sync settings between computers

    Hi!
I have Photoshop CC both on my desktop computer and on my laptop. Now I want to sync the settings to my laptop. But it doesn't work.
Here is a screendump from my desktop computer:
As you can see I'm logged in to my account. But shouldn't I also be listed as logged in under Settings > Syncronize Settings?
Is there something I have overlooked?
I would be thankful for some support.

I went into the help menu and signed out of PSCC 2014, and then signed right back into it and it was available for me to save my settings. This worked for me - Hope it works for anyone who finds this post.

  • Can iTunes Libraries Sync between computers?

Wondering if there was a way to sync libraries between two computers. I have a G5 and laptop both running Leopard. I'm currently running the same library on both. Wondering if I add a CD or song to one, is there an easier way to sync them up. Other than replacing the library and importing from the source. Thanks!

There is no Apple-provided way, but you may wish to investigate a 3rd party program such as Sync-O-Tunes. I haven't used it so cannot vouch for how well it might work.

  • HT3819 The article says you can "simply drag music between computer libraries."

Is there an easy way to transfer music between computer libraries?  I am using home sharing and can stream music between one computer to another with no problem.  However, when I try to transfer files from one library to another, I can not transfer anything.  The Apple Support article said you can "simply drag music between computer libraries."  I have tried to transfer music between libraries on three different computers in my home and have not been able to transfer a sigle file.  How exactly is this "simple" process supposed to work?
    Thanks.

First make sure you have Home Sharing turned on. This won't work if you only have Library Sharing turned on. Read my post in the thread I've linked to below to learn the difference between Home Sharing, Library Sharing and how to enable them.

Now, once you've enabled Home Sharing go to my post in the link I've posted below. Find the one with the screenshot. It will show you the different parts of a window so you how to import media from another computer using Home Sharing. Notice the Show menu in the screenshot.

  • How can I sync music libraries between our 3 MacBooks

How can I sync the iTunes music libraries between our 3 MacBooks?

Whenever you update one iTunes Library be sure to copy it to the other two computers. It goes in the /Home/Music/ folder. You can probably does this easily over your local network using File Sharing.
Copy the most recently changed iTunes Library folder to a USB flash drive. Use the flash drive to copy that library onto the other two computers.
Use a backup/sync utility to update each computer over your local network.

  • Can't copy songs between home shared libraries

I used to have home sharing set up to automatically copy songs between my wife's iMac and my Mac Pro. About a month ago, I changed the boot drive in my Mac Pro to an SSD. Sometime after, I also de-authorized all of my computers from iTunes (I had some dead computers that I wanted to clear out and re-authorized the two computers we are currently using). I just noticed today that songs we each buy are no longer synched between our computers, and I suspect either the iTunes deauthorization or the moving of files between computers must be the reason.
The shared libraries still work, and I can play songs from my wife's library and vice-versa, but we can't even manually copy songs. The "Settings" and "Import" options on the bottom are missing, the option to show songs missing from my library is also missing, and where I used to be able to drag songs from one library to another, this no longer works.
Both of our computers are on the same network and we are both logged into the same account. I read other posts that suggested turning off home sharing on both computers. I did this, rebooted both computers, and then turned sharing back on. Still no importing. I also tried logging out of iTunes and logging back in again, but still no dice.
Apple products are so nicely designed, but when they break, they often leave no clues as to what is going wrong, and it can be infuriating trying to figure out why!
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
    Help is much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ron

Okay ... I just solved my own problem. I read about turning on / off home sharing, but I didn't realize that there are two similar sounding options for doing this. I went to "Preferences --> Sharing" and chose to turn on / off sharing of my library. This did nothing.
However, I later noticed that in the Menu Bar under "Advanced", there is also a way to turn on / off home sharing. I turned this on / off, and my files are now sharing again. Yay!!!

  • Can you share iTunes libraries between iPad and iPhone?

I know how to share libraries between my MacBook or iMac and my iPad and/or my iPhone. My question is, can you share your iTunes libraries between your iPad and iPhone only, without using a computer?  I wanted to share movies between my iPhone and iPad in Europe over wi fi so I could take more on two devices.  Does iCloud support videos?

There are no iTunes libraries on the iPad or iPhone. You have iTunes content on the devices but not libraries. The content is stored in the respective apps as you well know. AFAIK there is no way to share the content from one device to the other using any iOS feature in the current sysetm.

You don't need a computer (other than to set this hard drive and and transfer the content), but it is one more device that you have to lug around with you.

  • Can I Sharing Music Between I-tunes Libraries

    Hope someone can help.........
I recently copied our itunes music from our desktop to our laptop. Kids can used the desktop and we will use the laptop. I have "authorized" the new laptop to purchase and play itunes music. If our daughter purchases a song on her account using the desktop, can I then also pull that new song from her library onto our ipod?
In other words, if I merely plug our ipod into her desktop, can I pull that song out for me since I paid for it? Can ipods accept music from more than one computer? Hope this makes sense.
    Thank you.

*if I merely plug our ipod into her desktop, can I pull that song out for me since I paid for it?*
Yes you can. You can also copy purchases from one computer to another (you can authorise up to 5 computers to play your purchases). iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
*Can ipods accept music from more than one computer?*
If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
