Can't transfer items bought on iphone to itunes

I'm getting a notice there's a new version of my iphone OS. But when I click on update, it tells me I have items I purchased on my iphone that haven't been transferred to my itunes library and I should do that before updating. So I go to the tabs for music/apps/ etc., but can't transfer anything without clicking the "sync" box. But when I click on Sync, I get a message that if I enable Sync, all existing items on my iphone will be replaced with the items in my library. So I can't transfer items without syncing, but if I sync, those items will be deleted and replaced with what's in the library.
This is ridiculous. It's a classic Catch 22. How can I transfer my items I bought with my phone to itunes so I can update the OS???

Hey guys ...Hope anyone can help me..
I did restored my iPhone 4 today, before that I created a backup (Using iTunes) .. after the restore, my iPhone turned into a brand new iPhone (lost all apps), I created a new Apple ID in the welcome screen. After the first welcome screen I restored the backup that I created and got my photos, notes, contacts back...
The problem is.. I purchased two apps using the iPhone, ok.. no problem
Then i purchased some apps using the iTunes..
And here where the problem begins..
Before sync, I needed to transfer my purchases that I bought on the iPhone to the iTunes library.. but got this error message:

PS: I'm using the IOS 5.1.1 and I already did the authorization going Store > Authorize this computer and it still saying that I don't have authorization

I noticed now what's going on
After the iOS restore, I created the new Apple ID, my iPhone was configured to use the new Apple ID.
Buut, I restored the backup (that I made using the iTunes while the iPhone was using the old Apple ID) and this backup also configured my iPhone to use the old Apple ID, and I purchased these two apps using the old Apple ID (I thought I purchased them using the new one)
That's why I can't transfer this apps to the iTunes library, because I purchased using the old Apple ID and my iTunes is configured to use the new Apple ID.
Solution: Delete these two apps and purchase them using the new Apple ID, correct?
PS: I created this new Apple ID because the old one got all the five authorizations and I really don't remember what computers I did this, and I've deauthorized all computers less than a year ago, so I only can do that again in one year..

i was just wondering if there is a way to get my music from my iPhone onto my iTunes on my Mac. my dell had a bad virus, so i gave it to a relative of mine to reinstall everything, and i told him to backup my itunes(which he forgot to do). so now i have a blank dell, a new mac, and all my music on my iPhone. P.S. they all aren't purchased songs, they are mostly from CDs that i lent my friends(most of which they lost) and those that i did buy were transfered from my account.

Can't transfer purchased movie from iPhone to iTunes library

I purchased a movie from iTune store on my iPhone. When I sync'd the iPhone with iTunes an icon was created in iTunes movie library, but there's no movie, just an icon. The purchased movie is still on my phone. I've re-sync'd, re-built iTunes, etc... No luck.
How do I get the movie from the iPhone to iTunes movie library?
I've researched this for a couple weeks and have failed at every turn.
Any input would be appreciated.

an iphone can be synced with one itune library at one time. erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iphone with the contents of this itune library!!

The iphone is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your other library/computer, or your backup copy, to your new library/computer

I am from Ireland and bought the majority of my itunes library in the Irish store before I moved to the UK. The account is still the same however the country in which I am using itunes store is now different (e.g. I was using the Irish store with an Irish card and now I'm using the Uk store with a British card). My old computer crashed erasing the library but I still have it all on my iPad. If I plug my iPad into my new computer and itunes asks me to transfer purchases, will the Irish songs transfer or will my library get erased and ill just be left with the 100 songs I have bought while living in the UK?

You'll need access to your brother's Apple ID account name and password to transfer his purchases from the iPod to your own iTunes library. Purchased made with one Apple ID are permanently tied to that Apple ID. You won't be able to move or add them to your own Apple ID account.

Can't transfer tv shows to iphone in itunes 9

I've just upgraded itunes to version 9, and updated my iphone to version 3.1. Also have snow leopard 10.6.1. I have itunes set to manually sync content. Before it was just a matter of dragging the selected tv shows over to the iphone icon when it was plugged in, but that no longer works. What do I need to do to fix this?

Solved my own problem. Some stupidness involved - not sure it was mine though. This all involves the newest season of Lost, which when you buy it you get 2 versions of every show, a sd and hd version. Since they take up so much room, I moved them off my computer, and only move the shows I'm actively watching onto the computer, maybe 3 at a time. And only the sd versions, as I do most of the watching on the iphone. For some reason, itunes 9 was renaming the moved sd files with the (HD) tag it uses at the end of the hd versions, even though these weren't the hd versions. If I renamed the files in finder, deleting the (HD) tag, then the files would transfer normally. And no, this wasn't an issue of me getting confused and transferring the wrong files - the file sizes are significantly different - I don't think I could fit 3 of the hd versions on my iphone.

Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

Did you purchase Day One in iTunes App store? These are apps for iPhone.
Or did you purchase it in the Mac App store (from the Apple menu)? These are apps only for your computer.
Day One is available for iPhone/iPad/iPod touch and also for the Mac. They are completely different apps and you must purchase both to use it on your computer and on your iPhone.

I misread your post. You can't transfer items to iTunes without connection to your computer. To transfer without synching, make sure you don't have your preferences in iTunes set to automatically synch. Then when you connect your phone but before you synch, in iTunes File>Transfer purchases. Note that only iTunes purchased media can be transferred this way.

The devices are not designed for transfer of that kind. Use Photo Stream as suggested by another poster, or transfer photos to your computer (a good idea anyway since they will be lost if your device needs to be reset), then use iTunes to sync them to the other devices.

Pics taken with the iphone are imported to your computer as with any other digital camera ( as explained in the manual).

The easiest method is to setup an iCloud account, turn on Contacts syncing in Settings > iCloud on both devices, and the Contacts from the iPhone will sync to the iPad.
