Can't transfer music from iTunes to iPhone

Ok, so I transferred this CD to iTunes and I'm trying to drag and drop it onto my iPhone but I get a symbol showing that I can't do that. I then tried to check the box under iPhone that says "Manually manage music and videos" but then get a notification saying an iPhone can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time and to manually manage the music and videos I have to erase all content on my iPhone and sync with this iTunes library. The problem is, my original iTunes library has been lost due to a hard drive crash. Furthermore, when I try to transfer purchases from my iPhone to the new library around 200 of the songs show up with incorrect information (they show the track number and song title with no album or artist info. For example, a song titled Memory Lane that is the first song on the album shows up as 01 Memory Lane with no artist and no album.) Any ideas on what I should do?

iphone will sync with one computer. When you sync to another, it will erase the content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer, this is true of manually managing music as well.
Since you are trying to drag and drop, do yo have manually manage music checked?

How can I transfer music from my old iphone 4 to the new iphone 5S without having the music on the old phone synced to my laptop (e.g. my itunes library on the laptop is empty) ?
I tried the "Transfer Purchases" option - however this only worked for apps - not sure if I'm missing some sort of setting.
I do not want to use iCloud as I do not have enough space for my music.
    Thanks!

You cannot. The music must be in the iTunes library first. See these User Tips:

  • Can't transfer files from iTunes to iPhone without erasing song library

I purchased some music from itunes on my computer at work(which is authorized on my account). I connected my iPhone to transfer (sync) the music to my iphone, but iTunes warns me that all music on my iphone will be erased. The music on my iPhone is currently sync'd with my home computer. My question is: How do I transfer music to my iPhone from two different authorized computers without erasing the content on the phone?

You can't sync music from two computers to the one iPhone.
You need to copy the files onto something like a USB stick and take them home and add them to your iTunes library at home.

  • How do i transfer music from itunes to iphone

how do i transfer music from my itunes account to my iphone? I was able to sync purchases from my phone to itunes, but can't move my music to my phone.

This series of posts was very helpful to me in fixing a problem I had encountered (apart from the various rude comments made by those who seem to have no patience with users who do not have their skill level...).  The problem that I had is as follows -- at least I think this was the problem.
For some time I had been managing my music on my iPhone manually.  That is, I simply dragged and dropped the music I wanted to my iPhone from my laptop using iTunes.  Then, suddenly (it seemed to me) all of the music I had put on my iPhone seemed to disappear except one album that I had recently bought.  I kept putting music on the iPhone, and it would work fine, and then it would disappear again.  I looked through manuals and settings and couldn't seem to figure this out.  Now what I've determined is that iTunes must have changed something in a more recent version that deletes music that is not "synced" with each new sync of the phone.  (dragging and dropping had worked on my iPhone and iPod for some years previously... but i think with an upgrade of the iTunes software things changed.)
So, following the suggestions in this discussion, I went to iTunes with my phone plugged in.  Clicked on the device (i.e., my phone).  From the Music tab (at the top), clicked on Sync Music.  (Previously I had not followed through on this step, because there was a warning message that said all the content on my phone would be erased -- technically false, because it would only erase music on the phone, not everything.)  But when I did click on the Sync Music, accepted the warning, and then clicked on "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres," there then appeared a very nice set of checklists that allows for on-going management of music on the iPhone.  (I didn't know about this checklist because it didn't appear...  I had thought that "checking" was something that was to be done from the main music menus...)
Anyway, the system of checking playlists, albums, etc. is quite nice for managing music on the phone, because my phone will not hold all of the music that I own, so I can update the phone by syncing so that it holds only that portion of the library that I want to use at the moment.  (Sometimes I'm listening to the Blues on a daily basis, sometimes to Beethoven...) So, even though this discussion didn't tell me all of this, it did give me the lead that I needed to get there.
So, as a comment to our rude fellow commentators here:  I've been working with Macs and Apple equipment for over 20 years.  I don't go back to re-read all of the manuals every time I upgrade software.  And when Apple doesn't tell you that they've changed something in their software that invalidates a procedure that you've been using for years, it can look very strange.  Then, when you do go to the manuals to search for the problem, rarely do you find (at lease rarely do I find) any explanation that a new procedure is in fact a new procedure that invalidates an old and trusted procedure.  This is a problem that I run into periodically, and it makes me feel stupid, and it may make my questions posted to forums seem stupid to others.  Other users are new to Apple, its software, its devices, and may have other reasons for asking simple questions.  If the question is so simple to you that you don't want to waste your time with it... well... then don't.  But don't insult other people who need help.  Leave it to those who can take the time to be courteous and helpful.  In this case, even though I'm a long-time user, it was responses to really basic questions that led me to the fix for a problem that had been annoying me for weeks.
So, thanks to those of you with simple, basic questions, and thanks also to those of you who helped.

  • How can I transfer music from Mac to iPhone WITHOUT iTunes?

I'd like to transfer (not sync, just transfer) songs from my Mac to my iPhone. How can I do this without going through iTunes software?
I know there was another software I used to do this with... something like iFun or iExplorer; but neither of those will transfer from iPhone to Mac. I've searched the web several times for such software, came up empty.

"The only reason it would delete songs on your phone that you had no physical copy of would be if you tried to sync it with a different iTunes library."
Yes, I know that. That's why I mentioned I have two computers. I also know you can redownload songs from iTunes. The songs don't come from iTunes. I don't know why you wish to devolve my query into a legal battle (like I'm sure you're a copyright lawyer for the RIAA) but number one, who said they were copyrighted songs? Not me. Number two, even if they were, yes the copies are mine if I choose to make copies. At least in my country, that's the case. That fact does not change if I lose the original, if the original source is unplayable, or if it burned up in a fire. Are you an international copyright attorney too? If so, you're not a very good one. And I posted a simple query. I didn't post it to be told to buy a different phone. If you can't answer the query, then why are you here? Just to argue for iTunes and copyrights? I already mentioned that there is software that exists to do what I want, so I obviously do not need to buy another phone. I just want better software at this point.

  • Can I move music from iTunes to iPhone 4S wirelessly? (ios 5)

I know I could sync my apps but can I transfer my music from ripped cds to my Iphone 4S?

If you're referring to wi-fi sync with iTunes, yes you can sync music or anything else you'd normally sync using the USB cable. Your iPhone needs to have the wi-fi sync option set (via iTunes, on the device's summary page), it must be on the same network as your iTunes library, de-select the iTunes option preventing auto-sync, and iTunes needs to be up and running of course.
To manually initiate the wi-fi sync you don't need external power applied to your iPhone (unless your battery is low).  If you want this sync to occur automatically there are additional requirements (external power on the iPhone, and it seems you need the option "Automatically open iTunes when this device is connected" selected).

  • Can't transfer music from iTunes

    Hello -
Hoping for some help. I have a mini (1st gen) and after running iTunes and Ipod updates, I am no longer able to transfer music. When iPod is connected, iTunes recognizes that iPod is there and seems to allow me to drag and drop from the library onto the iPod (even tells me that the iPod is updating). But when I disconnect, there is no music on my iPod. I have tried the 5 R's and even deleted the iPod software from my computer, reloading the older version that used to work - to no avail. I now have a stylish doorstop - Help please!

I am having the same problem. NOTHING I do inside iTunes will add, delete, or change the music available in my iPod. I have tried everything.
iTunes appears to be updating my iPod, but changes aren't being made to my iPod. Very stupidly, when viewing the contents of the iPod via iTunes, it would appear that the iPod has in fact been updated with the latest songs, etc., but browsing the iPod itself reveals that this is not the case.
I am so frustrated. When I chose to "manually update songs and playlists", my iPod still would not receive the new songs that I dragged onto it, although it appears to be transferring.
As a test, I copied a song onto my iPod via iTunes, and then deleted the song from my hard drive. iTunes could not play it from my library (asked me to locate it), but iTunes could play it if I double-clicked it from the iPod's list of songs. I guess this is proof that the song is on my iPod somewhere but can't be accessed via the iPod itself.
Please help, I have tried everything and have been unable to listen to any new music for almost a month now. One time, after re-installing iTunes for the billionth time, my iPod finally updated itself to be in sync with what iTunes believed was on the iPod (that is, I could unplug my iPod and browse to the songs that I had downloaded to it), but after that, my iPod refused to reflect any new changes again.
Please help. I am so frustrated that I can't find any support anywhere unless I pay $$$ for apple's stupid support package.

  • I can't transfer music from Itunes library into my Ipod Touch

I transfered a music library into a new laptop bu all the song have !!!! and exclamation sign and I can't transfer any songs into my Ipod Touch, can somebody ghelp me??

Make sure "Manually manage Music and videos" box is checked under Summary tab.
If the box is already checked and you are still not able to drag it over, highlight the video in movie library and go to iTunes menu ADVANCED and select "Create iPod or iPhone version".  Drag the newly created version over.
