Can't Transfer My 3000 + library

My itunes library contains over three thousand songs and for the past six months my hp desktop has been unable to recognize my ipod. Unable to upload any news songs, I have searched high and low for a problem, none the less a solution. I was in need of a new computer, so when I purchased my XPS M1530 laptop I bought a 80 g ipod hoping that I could use my new ipod as a mass storage device to transfer the songs from one computer to another. I was shocked to find that my desktop still wouldn't recognize my ipod. So after much trouble shooting, I decided to go in the old fashioned way and transfer the files to the laptop and upload them ONE BY TEDIOUS ONE to my itunes... This is somewhat working. Now I am running into another issue because when I attempt to play any song it makes me find the file again. HELP HELP HELP!!! I'm really frustrated. I know this is LONG BUT PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME i'm sooo desperate.

You can network your desktop and laptop together with an ethernet cable, and turn on Windows file sharing as described in start > Help
Then just copy the entire itunes folder from your desktop to the laptop.
On the laptop, start itunes, hold down the shift key while it's starting and browse to the ITL file you copied over.

You will need to do this via iTunes to start with as you need to copy your iTunes files to the new computer.
If you have everything on your iPad you can select "transfer purchases..." when plugging your iPad into your new computer and in iTunes (right/ctrl click the iPad icon) after telling iTunes to not sync this iPad.
Once the items are in the new iTunes then when it asks if you wish to sync to this new iTunes your items will be copied to the iPad again.
However if you do not have all iTunes items on your iPad, then you will need to follow the instructions on to move iTunes first, then deal with your iPad.

Copy the iTunes folder (Mac: Home\Music or PC: My Music) to the same location on the new computer. If an iTunes folder already exists on the new computer (it will on a Mac) replace it with one you copied.

Can I transfer my itunes library from my ipod to my new imac?  If so how is it done?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Of course. The best would be to transfer the iTunes library from your old Mac or PC to the new Mac, so you will keep everything and you won't have to use any third-party app.
Anyway, if you don't have access to the old PC or Mac, you can transfer songs from the iPod to your Mac. If you purchased all the songs on the iTunes Store, just open iTunes, connect the iPod and transfer the songs. If you are using an iPod touch, you will lose everything if you sync it with iTunes on the new iMac.
Another method is to use an app like Senuti to transfer the songs to iTunes, being a safer way to transfer them if you aren't sure that you will lose your songs

  • My PC has broken, if I buy a Mac, can I transfer my entire library over with ease?

My PC has broken, if I buy a Mac, can I transfer my entire library over with ease?

That depends. What is broken on the PC? If the hard drive has failed and you do not have a backup, you will need to look into data recovery services.
It's easy to move stuff over from a working PC. One that is not functioning is a bit more difficult.
Take a look at this Apple article about data migration from a PC, it may be useful.
    Best of luck.

3 things you need to transfer music from iPod to itunes: iPod, computer, iTunes.
step 1 connect your ipod to your computer via the white USB cable.
step 2 open My Computer, or just Computer from the start menu and look for the ipod drive. It should be in the (F:) drive. You will see the ipod logo in the listing of disk drives.
step 3 Now you should have a new folder called ipod_control. Open that folder up and you should see the following: Calendar, Contacts, ipod_control, notes, photos, ect. If you are trying to save all of your music then the ipod_control folder is the only one you need to worry about.
step 3 Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders (should look similar to these: F00, F01 ...) onto your computer.
step 3 Open itunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music

  • How can I transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive?

    Community,
Every time I try to transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive, I receive the attached message: "You can't copy 'iPhoto Library' because it has the same name as another ideon on the destination volume, and that volume doesn't destinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames."
My theory is, if I am able to unpackage my iphoto library, I can transfer each folder one at a time so that I can trouble shoot any "duplicates." Will this work?
Let's say that works. How can I repackage the library so iphoto recognizes it?
    Is there a better way?
    Thank you,
    Jonathan

Can we assume that I don't have any naming conflicts? Clearly there are or else I wouldn't get the error I'm getting.
The error doesn't mean you have name conflicts. It means that the Finder won't take the chance that you might have them.
You're suggesting that all I would need to do would be to use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the files from the case-sensative harddrive to my Extended Journaled harddrive?
Yes. But I would just use the built-in rsync shell command. First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press the space bar:
    rsync -aE --delete
Now drag the iPhoto library you want to copy into the window. You should have something like this:
    rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library
Drag the Pictures folder on the destination volume into the window. Now you have this (line will wrap on the page):
rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library /Volumes/something/Users/you/Pictures
Press return. The copying operation will start. When it finishes, you'll see a new dollar-sign ("$") prompt below what you entered. If there were no errors, you're done.
