Can't turn off airport

After installing snow leopard on my MacBook 13" I can't turn off airport from the top menu or from network utility.
Just now was successful in turning off Airport. I had to go to network preferences, click on automatic (not my regular network name), the apply button was no longer grayed out. Hit apply and was able to turn off the connection from preferences. Can now turn off and on from top menu

ok I just installed SNM LPD on 3 intel macs-older Imac 2.0ghz, newer 13"macbook 2.4ghz, and newer 24"Imac 2.4ghz. All of them worked ok except the Imac. I couldn't connect to a wireless network at all nor could I turn off the airport card. The system profiler saw the card and it seemed to be working fine. So I knew it was a software problem. I tried everything. I was just about to wipe the disk and reinstall everything (which would have taken 3 to 4 days) when I tried to add another network location profile. I've used the automatic profile forever, but then I thought I'd try a whole new location. I went to edit locations. Hit the plus button and named it. It populated the hardware and my airpot card (which was on but wouldn't connect) turned off. When I turn it back on (in the NEW location menu) it found all the nearest networks instantly. I found my home network and put in my password and it didn't give me the small "connection error" sign. I don't know what this glitch is but its annoying...hope its helps!

  • Turn off airport extreme

    How can I turn off airport extreme during certain times of the day so my kids can't use wifi?

    You might want to take a look at the Timed Access settings in AirPort Utility, which will allow you specify the times each day that everyone will be allowed to connect to the network.
    Or, you can individualize this, and the set up individual "rules" for each of the kids' devices that allow them to connect using certain times each day....while your devices have unlimited access.

  • How can I turn off the green light indicator on my AirPort Express?

    How can I turn off the green light indicator on my AirPort Express? It really annoys me.

    The Zed,
    You have two options and you probably won't like any of them.
    Using the Airport Utility, click on the AE then "Base Station", then "Options". That will bring up two options for you AE green light, either keep it green at all times or only light up when it is being used.
    The second option is put some tape over it.
    Hope this helps.

  • When i turn off airport i can still go to my tablet---why

    is it normal for my tablet to work even if i turn off airport express????

    I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to, but I assume you are asking if it is normal for the tablet to operate even if it doesn't have a Wi-Fi connection ... correct? If so, then I would say "yes."

  • Can I turn off Macbook while Time Capsule is archiving Time Machine backup to a USB drive?

    My Time Capsule is archiving my Time Machine backup to a USB drive attached to it. I have initiated this process on my macbook (on the same lan with the Time Capsule), on which I am monitoring the archiving progress on the Airport Utility. Still almost a couple of days to go... Can I turn off my Macbook, or will that interrupt the process of archiving?

    If LaPastenague is willing to do a "test", then we will all know more.
    Opened my big mouth.
    The archive is happening.. I turned off the computer it was setup from.. running Mavericks and latest utility once I got it started. I have been checking from v6 utility on Mountain Lion.. and it is excruciatingly slow. But is running.
    I can check the progress but v6 utility is utterly and completely useless.. it continually shows the same numbers.
    v5 utility does show it is crawling along.
    v6
    20min later..
    Look, look, there is a tiny blue fleck in the progress bar!!
    v5 utility shows the actual progress. Actually tells you total and amount backed up so far.
    Amazing how advanced v5 utility is over v6.
    The estimate of 10hours is probably correct at the present rate of progress. I suppose for 500GB, around 50GB/hr is about what we expect from TM backups etc.
    I will post another picture in an hour and probably kill it then before I die of watching paint dry.

  • How can I turn off access to the internet at scheduled times?

    how can I turn off access to the internet at scheduled times? I use an Airport extreme and several units to extend the range. Kids have multiple devices that I don't want on the network at certain hours. On the other hand, ideally, my wife and I would like to be able to access the internet with our devices after the kid's bedtime and during their school study time.

    how can i turn off the shake to undo button? it annoys me. i don't even shake my phone, but  it always pop out. please help me

    Your question really has nothing to do with AirPort networking and the products that we support in this forum.....the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule pictured below:
    You will likely receive a must faster and more informed answer if you post your iPhone question in the iPhone support forum linked just below:
    Using iPhone
    The last time that we checked, the "shake to undo" feature could not be defeated, but maybe things have changed in that regard.

  • Can't turn off internet sharing

    My brand new MacBook Pro has been working perfectly--until out of the blue internet sharing turns on everytime I boot up. I have never used internet sharing and certainly don't want to now, because I can't use my wireless network with it on.
    My internet connection has been working flawlessly and I made no changes whatsoever (it simply was on once after booting up, and now is on forever), but I CAN'T turn off internet sharing. In my internet sharing preference panel it says that internet sharing is already off, but my airport menu bar says it is on. This is becoming most irritating. Any suggestions?

    Are you sure this is not just a neighbour's wireless network?

  • Can't turn off Wi-Fi on Time Capsule

    I would like to save electricity since I don't use the wi-fi on my Airport Time Capsule.  I just use the data back-up feature. I can't turn off the wi-fi by going to System Preferences - Network.  It says Status: Off  but the Wi-Fi is in fact on.  I can log on to the Wi-Fi network from another computer.  Clicking Turn Wi-Fi On does nothing.
    The menu bar says "WiFi: No hardware installed"  My Time Machine program seems to work with the Time Capsule.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Hardware: Early 2008 Mac Pro, OSX 10.9.2.  Airport Time Capsule 2TB less than a year old.

    I get the same power consumption whether wireless is on or off....using an older 2+ year old version of the Time Capsule though.
    I would not recommend that you power off the Time Capsule and power it back up on a regular basis. The Time Capsule loses all of its network settings on power down, then must get them all back again on power up. You probably will not go more than a few days before you have a problem with the Time Capsule getting lost on the network.
    Might be a reason why Apple does not even put an "Off" switch on the Time Capsule, or allow you to power it off from a computer or AirPort Utility.
    Personally, I think that continually powering off a device and powering it back up places far more stress on the electronic components that simply leaving it on. But, others have other opinions.

  • HT201250 Can I turn off router on time capsule?

    Can I turn off router function in time capsule?

    Try this ...
    Use AirPort Utility on your Mac (located in the Applications > Utilities folder).
    Find your Time Capsule there, click on it, and click "Edit".
    Click the "Network" tab on top, then click "Router Mode".  One of the dropdown choices is "Off (Bridge Mode)".
    Will that accomplish what you need?

  • Turn Off / Airport / Menu Item

    Hello,
    I try to make an applescript to turn off Airport by menu items
    I've try this (see below) but it doesn't work on Leopard (french version).
    I've already turn off "Enable Access for assistive devices" in Universal Access.
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Regards,
    Grégoire
    *tell application "System Events"*
    *click menu bar item 1 of menu bar 1 of application process "SystemUIServer"*
    *click menu item "Désactiver AirPort" of menu 1 of menu bar item 1 of menu bar 1 of application process "SystemUIServer"*
    *end tell*

    The menu position isn't set so you can't assume a numerical index, but you can go through the menu items looking for the one you want. There was an earlier topic about scripting the Airport menu, so I just looked up some keys in the French localized strings. The "Enable Access for assistive devices" will need to be turned on, but the following script should do it:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "System Events" to tell process "SystemUIServer"
    tell menu bar 1
    set menu_extras to value of attribute "AXDescription" of menu bar items
    repeat with the_menu from 1 to the count of menu_extras
    if item the_menu of menu_extras is "Menu supplémentaire AirPort" then tell menu bar item the_menu
    click
    delay 0.5
    click menu item "Activer AirPort" of front menu
    -- click menu item "Désactiver AirPort" of front menu
    delay 0.5
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell -- menu bar 1
    end tell
    </pre>

  • Disable students from turning off AirPort?

    Hello,
    Working in a school district with managed preferences on Macbooks.   Want to be able to disable students from turning off their AirPort.  Anyone know of a way to accomplish this?

    You can't turn off the light, but you can stop by the office supply place and pickup some 1/2" round, white stickers. Depending on how many layers you place on the Express, you can adjust the intensity of the light to suit your taste.
    The stickers look much better than a piece of tape.

  • TURN OFF AIRPORT IF USING 10.5.2

    I've also installed 10.5.2 on a MBP. Performance for playing audio is terrible until I turn off AirPort.
    I don't think users need to go back to Tiger. Simply staying at 10.5.1 is fine (at least, that worked well for me). If you've already upgraded to 10.5.2, simply turn off airport when you need audio performance. I know, it certainly ***** to have to do this. But for me it means I can go back to normal performance.

    "Wow, this is the first thread anywhere I've found that seems to address the very problem I've been having."
    I admit I've been following this problem more or less since it started. This thread should actually be callsed "TURN OFF AIRPORT IF USING LOGIC OR MAINSTAGE", cause the problem exists in 10.4.11 as well.

  • How can I turn off the WLS 6.1 security in order to develop my own application-based security module?

    Dear Colleagues,
    I am currently developing a J2EE application using WLS 6.1.
    My team and I have to implement a security requirement to suit our company's needs.
    The security requirements are that, users' password need to be aged (30 days maximum) and we need to provided a GUI front-end (JSP) to allow users to change their password when these expire after 30 days.
    Our internal contacts in the company, have already taken the lead to find out about whether we will be able to use the WLS 6.1 platform to do this and the answer we got back, was.
    Now we need to develop our own security module.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. How can we turn off the WLS security in order develop our own application-based security module?
    2. How can we develop a security module that allows us to age users' password and provide them with facilities to change their passwords when these expire?
    At the moment, we are using the default BEA WebLogic login.jsp page and there some configuration in the web.xml for this. I will be grateful if you could advise me on how to turn this default security off so that we can write our own security module.

    hi,
    1.You can write your own realm in 61 which can plugged for your security
    calls.
    2. once you write your ownrealm.. you can access it through weblogic
    api/ur api..
    thanks
