Can't turn off Closed Captions

Have a 7232-2 in MBR feeding a Sony 40V2500 direct.  Suddenly this morning as wife was fumbling with her Harmony remote the CC came on, and we can't make it go away.
Turned off all gear, turned on with VZ remote (which can override Harmony,in any case.)  Problem persists.  Using Sony remote, went into TV menu - CC is set to off.
With VZ remote, went into STB menu and down to CC.  Discovered  CC2 the selected option.  Changed to OFF.
NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT, WON'T STICK.  Every time I set it and go back and look, the CC is still there and and refuses to change.
HELP, please
   starrin

Since the VZ remote overrides the Harmony the wife uses, we used that remote.  The function is there (and on some Harmony remotes):
Pushing on the asterisk key (below the 7, to the left of 0) cycles
the set, on screen, through all the available CC options.  When I stopped it at "OFF", the CC shortly went away.  Have no idea why that worked and attempting to cycle to the same spot with the STB Menu doesn't work.
One can teach an old dog new tricks!

In iTunes v12.1.2.27, how do I turn off Closed Captioning on TV shows?
I have looked at the Preferences/Playback section and I do not have the 'Show Closed Captioning When Available?' box.  Instead, I have a Caption droplist with the options 'Default', 'Large Text', and 'Classic'  I don't want closed captioning at all.

Have you looked in System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Captions (at least for the Mac).

The following article details the process for enabling Voice Over on your Apple TV. However, this will guide you to the location of the Voice Over setting, allowing you to disable it.

Closed captioning just started to show up when I watch videos. I've tried to disable it but nothing seems to stop it. Please help!

Three ways, on your iPad it's settings> general> accessibility> subtitles and captioning> closed captions> off. On a YouTube video it's the the dots in the upper right. TV shows tap the screen and look for cc.

Double tap the Home button and swipe the app preview page up
iOS 7  also allows apps to run while they aren't open.
    You can manage these here:
Settings > General > Background App Refresh

  • DVD Player Can't Turn off Captions

Using DVD Player, I cannot turn off Mac captions. The DVD film has it's own subtitles, but the Mac subtitles play no matter what...regardless of my OFF settings for Subtitles.
How can I turn these off?

Make sure both "Subtitles" and "Close Captioning" are turned off in DVD Player's "Features" menu.

  • How do I turn off close captioning in Netflix?

Somehow I turned on closed captioning and now I can't get it off (at least in Netflix).  I have gone into the Settings>Audio & Video and have set Closed Captioning to OFF, but it continues to display.  I have reset/rebooted my Apple TV and that still did not correct the problem.  What do I need to do?

    Hey Robb,
You are correct.  I discovered that myself a couple of days ago.  I was going to post a note here and hadn't been able to yet.  Thanks so much for your response, it is exactly what needed to be done.

  • When editing page styles, can I turn off the "changes you have made will be lost" warning on refresh?

    To reproduce:
Right click an element -> Inspect Element.
Uncheck any style value in the right-hand menu, or add one.
Refresh (Command-R) now comes up with a warning that the Inspector will be closed and changes will be lost.
Can I turn off this warning, or dismiss it using a keyboard shortcut?
I guess there's the lingering feature request of keeping the inspector open on a page after a refresh, but that's a more involved change than turning off this warning. A simple boolean in about:config would be great.

  • Can't turn off Mac after burning DVD.

I burned a DVD of images for a client on my MBP 15" Retina (i.e. latest model) on the USB Superdrive. It ejected fine and seems to have finished correctly.  However I had a message that the disc burn failed but that I could try again.  When I tried to turn my Mac off I got the message "The Finder is about to quit. Click Continue to eject the disc without burning “Untitled Disc” to it."  There was no disc in the drive (and I also tried this with a new disc in the drive with the same result) but I clicked continue, the window closed but the MBP stayed resolutely switched on.
I've since burned another DVD in the hope that that would make the Mac 'forget' about "Untitled Disc", but it hasn't and I can't turn off my computer!  There doesn't seem to be a hard 'power off' button like my old 17" MBP either.
There's no DVD disc image or folder called "Untitled Disc" that I can eject or delete.  Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Open Terminal (Utilities Folder) type
    drutil eject
    then hit enter.
    You may try also
    drutil eject external
    then hit enter.
