Can't turn off favorites dropdown in search bar

Using Safari 8.0.2 in OS X 10.10.1. I am trying to disable the dropdown that shows the grid of icons of stuff in your Favorites bookmarks folder when you click on the unified address/search bar. I have gone into Preferences->Search and unchecked "Show Favorites", but this seems to do nothing, e.g, this dropdown is still appearing. Has anyone else gotten this behavior? I tried signing into a guest account which should presumedly create all new preferences files from scratch in case I got a corrupted preferences file, but once again, despite unchecking the Show Favorites preference, the dropdown is still showing up.

I had the same problem, unchecking the "show Favorites" would not eliminate the favorites drop down box on my MacBook Air, but I worked fine on my wife's Mac. I have cookies installed on my MBA, but she didn't on her Mac. To solve the problem, I booted in safe mode. checked and unchecked the "show Favorites" box, rebooted, and the it was gone. Cookies still seems to work properly. It has been driving me nuts for 6 months.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for. Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.

It's so weird I can't turn off safe search for Google in new version of Firefox?

I was able to turn off the Google safe search in old version but in new version I can’t. I tried IE and I can turn off safe search. I don’t know what is wrong and it’s so weird. When I go to the page of safe search setting it shows and says (Turn on safesearch to filter sexually explicit content from your search results.) but the safe search is on already. Please somebody say something I am driving out of my mind. And the stupid thing is that I have to use IE for searching and use Firefox for other stuffs.

The problem is not Firefox - it's Google. They have changed the safesearch options.
The way round it is to add the word 'nude' or similar to your keywords. Then you'll get taken to an 'are you sure' type option before finally showing you your results.

Which problems did you have that you decided to reset Firefox?
Note that if you have visited pages before on a server via a secure connection then Firefox will prefer to using a secure connection (a reset imports the history).
You can set the Boolean browser.urlbar.autoFill pref to false to disable auto-fill on the location bar.

Hi, I have a iMac (early 2008) updatet to 10.9 Maveriks with Bluetooth mouse, mousepad en keyboard. I listen at home to music with a Onkyo TX-NR626 A/V receiver (with Bluetooth) via my iMac, iPad and android device.
When I startup or wake up my iMac, Maveriks is always staring to scan for new Bluetooth devices?!. Than every time, my receiver (also when the receiver is turned off) is turning on and change to Bluetooth mode.
I can't turn off the Bluetooth function at my Onkyo TX-NR626 A/V receiver. With Mountain Lion, I didn't had this problems.
I want to turn of the continuously scanning procedure after startup or wake up on my iMac.
My question is:
How can I turn off that Maveriks is scanning continuously for new devices?
How can I turn off the detection mode of my iMac?

I'm using iphone 5 with ios 7. I just upgraded ios 7 today. after upgrade I realised that passcode was activated before upgrade I was not using that feature. I forgot my passcode so I got my phone disabled for a while. I searched the discussions and saw that I need to restore and then restore from back up to have the passcode to disable. When I try to restore my phone I got the below message:
Find My iPhone must be turned off before “Jean” can be restored.
Go to iCloud Settings on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone before restoring your iPhone.
I can not turn off Find my Iphone because my phone locked and I forgot the passcode.
Anyone can help?

Follow the steps above to remove it from the account, but then
"After the device has been removed from the account, turn it off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button located on the top right side of the device. Then restart your device and proceed with device setup as you would normally. "

Can't turn off computer because mail interupts shut down. I can force quit, but nothing happens. literally.

I'm also using Apple Mail with a POP account and Exchange as well.
One easy thing to try first is to Rebuild the Mail boxes, choose each Inbox in sequence and go to the Mailbox Menu > Reubild
Do this for the POP account Mailbox and the Exchange in that order. Try quitting Apple Mail and see what happens.
Reading this also led me to do a Google Search on Apple Mail hang on quit. Which led me to this message in the Discussion Group:

If that fails o to the Desktop > Go Menu > (hold down Option Key) choose Library > Mail > MailData > (there are .plists in here to that could be causing issues). *WARNING: Make sure to have all your account settings written down in advance of trashing these .plists. You want everything written down in case you have type it ALL in again once these .plists are eliminated.
