In previous version of ISO it was easy to turn-off the opened apps by double clicking on home button and then click and hold on respective apps then click on cross sign but in this version I could not do so and my iPad appears slower.

    Close inactive apps
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

Double tap the Home button and swipe the app preview page up
iOS 7  also allows apps to run while they aren't open.
    You can manage these here:
Settings > General > Background App Refresh

    2. Swipe the app's preview up to close it.

  • How can I turn off text auto-correct in Number IOS?

I use Numbers as a project workbook and it drives me insane I cant turn off text auto-correct. I use a bunch of abbreviations that Numbers wont allow without constantly changing to the extent that its almost useless.

Auto correct is controlled at the system, not apps, level (with a few possible exceptions, but Numbers isn't one of them).

  • HT4623 Where can I turn off my apps same I used to with a double tap on the home button how do I do this with ios7?

Using ios7 what replaces the old double tap on the home button for power saving

It's still a double-click to open the multitasking bar, but with iOS 7 you now drag or swipe the app from there off the top of the screen :

  • Can't turn off Rotation Lock after upgrade to iOS 8

After upgrading iPad to iOS 8, the device is locked in portrait mode. I assume this is what "Rotation Lock" means. In Settings, Rotation Lock is checked and cannot be changed. I don't have this problem with my iPod Touch. What is the fix?
    Thanks in advance.

WIth IOS8, I believe it was because I had turned the physical knob to MUTE on the iPad. For some reason, the two are connected. Turn mute off and it should work.
    They are not connected.
Mute and rotation lock are independent.  However, as I said above, they can be controlled by the same side switch, but it depends on what said switch is set to in Settings->General->Use Side Switch For.

Whatever is not checked there will appear in control center.
The checked option will be controlled by the side Switch above the volume control buttons.
Of course this only applies to iPads up to the iPad Air. Since the iPad Air 2 did away with the side switch, everything is controlled via the control center on the iPad 2.

  • Can I Turn Off Notifications Page?

The new notifications are a big problem for me. I am an artist and when I am drawing or painting on my iPhone4 I find that working at the top of the page means I am constantly pulling down the notifications page. It is really bad news but although I can figure out how to turn off individual apps there appears to be no option for disabling the pull down notifications page.
Can it be done? If not how do I go about reverting back to iOS4 on the iPhone whether the '4' or the '4S' when I get it?
The notifications issue is driving me nuts

It makes no difference which orientation since artworks extend to all 4 edges. The notifications page has to go completely. I know Apple wouldf not support downgrading but there must surely be a way. For the first time I am considering jailbreaking if that would allow going back to iOS4

  • Can I turn off Cell Service and just use GPS

I want to use my iPhone 5 with only GPS activate for when I run with various apps.
I no longer have a cell account on this phone since I just bought an iPhone 6. I don't want my phone to keep searching for service and running down the battery plus the annoying notification "Phone is not Activated. Is there a way to turn off everything (including phone service, not just data) except the GPS?
    Thank you...

So, in theory, when I can use WiFi, it should not be running up data usage against the 3G plan that I pick...correct?

  • My elderly mother hss EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing and not accidentally open any other app and screw something

My elderly mother has EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing or Siri and not accidentally open any other app and screw something up.

I'm asking, in all seriousness, why do you think your mother needs an iPhone? Honestly, if your mother is, as you described her, a technophobe, I would recommend against getting an iPhone or any other smartphone. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching older folks to use smartphones. If they are interested in learning, it's fine. If they have the phone because their kids or grandkids thought it was a good idea but they are afraid of the phone or not interested in its features, it doesn't go well at all.
Many basic phones have voice dialing. Obviously, it doesn't do all the things Siri does but it may be much less intimidating for your mom. Also, basic phones have hardware keys. Even someone with limited vision can learn the keyboard on such a phone. From the sound of your first post, all she will be doing is making phone calls.
    Best of luck.
