Can't turn off old 2003 server (exchange crashes)

Hello all
we have installed a new server (2012R2) with 2 VM's (DC 2012R2, Exchange 2010 on server 2008R2).
the migration has went through perfectly, but now we need to kill the old 2003 server.
when we disconnected the old server from the net there were no emails in the organization.
we tried:
removing global catalog from server 2003 (the exchange console crashed)
tried to set in exchange shell preferred domain controller (it changes for the shell session) but changes right back when closing the shell.
we are bit struggling right now, i would appreciate any ideas

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
If i understand you correctly, you want to remove the old domian controller from domain.
For the AD migration, I think you  need to run a Metadata Cleanup to remove the DC.
For detail information, please refer to:
Remove a Current Operational Domain Controller from Active Directory
http://blogs.msmvps.com/acefekay/2010/10/09/remove-a-current-operational-domain-controller-from-active-directory/
For the exchange migration, according to the following article:
“You can run Exchange Server 2003 on either a member server or on a domain controller. After you install Exchange Server 2003 on a server, do not change the role of the server. For example, if you install Exchange Server 2003 on a member server, do not
use the Dcpromo tool to promote the server to a domain controller. Or, if you install Exchange Server 2003 on a domain controller, do not use the Dcpromo tool to demote the server to a member server. Changing the role of a server after you install Exchange
Server 2003 may result in loss of some Exchange functionality and is not supported.”

  • Can I turn off automatic reply for exchange invitations?

    Hi all,
just a quick question: I just bought an iPhone 5 for work, i'm very happy with my choice and really like iOs but there's something that bugs me, I searched the web and found nothing.
So I  setup my exchange e-mail account wich works perfectly fine, but it seems that everytime I accept or decline an invitation from my phone the phone itself automatically sends the answer to whoever has invited me wich isn't actually so bad, but i would prefer to choose that for myself. Can I go in the settings and change something there to avoid this issue?
    please let me know
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

It's the new Teac HD-radio ipod charger that you can buy at Costco for $100.
I also have the same problem when I plug in my Ipod on my Alpine Stereo...the same music always start up on the plug-in. So I'm guessing this happens on many divices. Any way to keep the music from starting up on start-up.
Thanks again for taking time to read and hopefully respond!

  • Can I turn off the monitor for Mac Mini and use it as a music server?

I am in the process of upgrading my PC most likely to a Mac product. With the non-server version of Mac OS X, can I turn off the monitor connected to a Mac Mini and use it as a streaming server? Or I have to get the server version of OS X to do that?

I plan to run Logitech Media Server on the Mac to stream music to players. Each player interacts with the Logitech Media Server to select songs to stream. When I turn on a player, it will wake up the computer from the sleep mode.
Currently, this Logitech Media Server runs on a Windows Vista machine and it will keep the PC from entering sleep mode while playing the songs. After I play the last song, the PC will start the idle count down and then enter into sleep mode.
Do you see any problem with my intended use of a Mac Mini?

  • Restoring from iCloud - when can I turn off iCloud from old phone?

Hi - I upgraded from 4S to 6 and I'm restoring from iCloud backup - it's taking a while to download all the apps and photos as I expected.  While it's downloading/restoring from iCloud can I turn off iCloud service from the old 4S or do I have to wait until it's complete on the 6?

No.  When you turn it off it removes your existing backup.  You'll have to back up to your computer using iTunes (after turning off iCloud backup it will automatically back up when you sync).

No worries. Typically you can rename a machine by just changing the name System Preferences -> Sharing. But there is also a command line option to adjust the name, and if you don't use the command line option, the server freaks out and will alert you about the change forever. ie - for servers, you need to use the command I describe below.
The command is called changeip and can be run from command line in Terminal.app. It is for manually chaning the ip address and or name of a machine. It basically has 4 parameters: old ip address, new ip address, old machine name, new machine name.
Basically the command looks like this:
sudo changeip OLDIPADDRESS NEWIPADDRESS OLDNAME NEWNAME
If any value is being kept the same, just repeat the identical information as both the old and new value.
Example 1: Changing the IP address and host name. This would update the machine's ip address to be 192.168.1.2 and its name would be update to my_new_name.
    sudo changeip 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 my_old_name my_new_name
Example 2: Keeping the IP address the same but updating the name. This would update the machine's name to my_new_name but would keep the same ip address.
    sudo changeip 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 my_old_name my_new_name
Most likely you're just wanting to update the name, in which case you should follow the second example. If you run this, be sure to reboot the machine afterwards and test to make sure that any enabled services are running properly.

  • Can't turn off shuffle (FIXED)

So like many of you, I could not get iTunes for windows 10.1 out of shuffle mode, so I upgraded to 10.2.1.1 and::::: same friggin problem and I don't have to tell you what a deal-breaker it is when you can't tell the program how to sequence the playing of your music! Apparently this has been a known problem since 2007, sheesh you would think the kind folks at apple software development would ensure functionality of basic features. Maybe Apple is tired of supporting PCs and want to drive use to GTKPOD or Songbird - I don't know, but before you PC users give up on iTunes forever try this, it worked for me and was relatively painless.
One disclaimer - My library was stored an external drive, I would be sure when you do this that you have secured your library!
Go into the control panel, programs and remove itunes from the machine
    Reboot
Download the newest version of iTunes
Go do something else for 40 minutes
Come back and Viola! your new version should allow you to turn off (and back on and back off again) the shuffle function using the button in the lower left corner of the screen.
I didn't even have to re-create the media folder settings or import my library list. Apparently those reference files were not affected by removing iTunes from the machine.
My uneducated guess is that having shuffle turned on when updating iTunes is the root cause of the problem of not being able to turn off shuffle must be that the update is referencing the shuffle setting in an attempt to present the new program in the exact same state (shuffle turned on) as the old version, whereas a "clean" install does not; but I'm a chemist not a computer scientist. In any case, you can regain control of iTunes. Happy tuning.

I tried it...didn't work. My songs are all still permanently shuffled. I get so angry at Apple for this kind of thing. Do they test their **** software? I also just discovered dozens of CDs that I had thought imported correctly actually have file sizes of under 25KB, and iTunes shows their length as either "continuous" or three or four seconds. **** it, Apple, if you don't properly import a CD ***TELL ME ABOUT IT***...don't pretend that everything is hunky-dorey.
I should add...I have the songs stored on a HP MediaSmart (Windows Home) Server. When I access the library using the Windows version of iTunes, I have the problem. If I access it using the Mac version of iTunes, the shuffle works correctly (i.e. it can be turned off.)

  • Can you turn off the annoying pop-up in iTunes

Can you turn off the annoying pop-up in iTunes when you hover over a song in your song list.
I don't need a stupid pop-up; this isn't a stupid Windows program. Now my iTunes is jumping around, things are popping up!  *** APPLE! I wnat my old iTunes back!

Like whan you touch the black bar at the top of the screen with the time and the battery percentage and all that...the screen will scroll all the way back to the top.  I'm wondering if there is a way to turn that off

  • HT1657 How can I turn off the scrolling movie ads in itunes store?

How can I turn off the scrolling movie ads across the top of the screen when I open the itunes store and am in the movies section?

    Thanks varjak paw.
I was afraid this was the case.  To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism.  That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position.  Sad to watch.

  • Satellite A660 How can i turn off the lighting of the power button?

Hello, I recently bought a new Toshiba A660-1FL.
However bothers me is the lighting of the multimedia keys, if I work in the dark.
In Bios I could turn off the led illumination, but the power on/off button is still lighting, that distracts me when i am working.
This notebook has two power LED, so the power on lighting is in my opinion, unnecessary.
My question is: How can i turn off the lighting of the power button?

Here you can see the LED with the same function in front of you: http://s3.imgimg.de/uploads/t009aae62jpg.jpg
Yes in fact, the difference is color, design, but also location and brightness of the LED.
For me, this LED is too bright and it is distracting in the dark, as you can see here: http://s3.imgimg.de/uploads/leddf570760jpg.jpg
I was today at a local electronics store, and saw that Toshiba has the brightest Power LED on A660, but why it must be placed under the LCD and not in the front as in my old notebook Toshiba A210.
I also had the idea with a tape, but it would look ugly, and it must be removable without residue.
P.S. Also the fingerprints on the glossy keyboard do not look nice.

  • I can't turn off the mute feature

For some reason I can't get sound on my MAC Book Pro. In System Preference, Sound. I can't get the Mute button to uncheck.

There are two ways that your location can be determined. One is thru the Geo-Location feature, which uses WiFi signals on mobile devices; doesn't work on desktop computers unless you have a wireless card installed. Geo-Location can be turned off in Firefox.
The other is by the IP Address for your connection, that can't be turned off in Firefox. You would need to use a Proxy server / service to act as the intermediary connection to hide your true IP Address. It would be easier to use Adblock Plus and just hide those advertisements, then to mess with using a Proxy, IMO.
Not going to be much different with other browsers.

  • I can not turn off connect securely. How do i do so and your help page sucks cant find anything

I can not turn off connect
securely. How do i do so it was working fine then i reset fiefox and now i can get on pages

Which problems did you have that you decided to reset Firefox?
Note that if you have visited pages before on a server via a secure connection then Firefox will prefer to using a secure connection (a reset imports the history).
You can set the Boolean browser.urlbar.autoFill pref to false to disable auto-fill on the location bar.
See "Prevent Firefox from automatically completing URLs":
