Can't turn on airport Extreme

Question

Started having problems a few months back. Kept being thrown out of internet and had to go through a routine of switching off broadband box (o2 supplied) and rebooting laptop. For some time you could be logged on for days and then get thrown off at the weekend. This made us think that it was an o2 problem. Recently you were thrown out of the internet every few minutes and now I can't get it at all. All the lights are shown on the broadband box. When I click on the Airport icon to turn on nothing happens. When I get it to re-san it can't find anything. o2 say that it is my computer. Is it more likely to be the computer or the broadband box?

That message doesn't say anything about "to the right". I also don't understand what you mean by "Airport is nested within networks".
To delete an connection method in the Network panel of System Preferences, if the lock icon at the bottom is "closed", click on it, then enter your administrative password. Then select the AirPort connection item on the left and click on the "-" sign at the bottom of the column.
3) I can't see how to define a new location - this is set as automatic
Pull down the "Location" list, select "Edit Locations" at the bottom of the list, then click on the "+" sign at the bottom of the list.
4) I don't have a file system configuration file within Library/preferences
Open your boot drive. Within that window open the "Library" folder". Within that open the "Preferences" folder. Within that there will be a folder named "SystemConfiguration". Drag that onto your Desktop for temporary keeping. Restart your Mac. At this point you may need to declare some things like your network password. See if things now work any better.
